Resident Evil 4, 5, 6 – Announce Trailer (PS4/Xbox One)

For better or for worst(worst for me), the main RE series is never going back to being solo only. They're going to cram in co-op til the series becomes unprofitable and /or dies.

The truth is that no matter how good the game actually is, co-op always seems to elevate games several points higher than if it were solo. People like playing games with their friends, even if it's mediocre or just bad. There's some pleasure to it.
That's why playing by yourself in RE5 or other games that were made with co-op in mind feel hollow/shallow in comparison to games specifically made to be played by yourself. You feel something missing.

Honestly, Dead Space 3 did it right/better, too bad that the story they told and the gameplay changes they made weren't very good. Someone else needs to come along and perfect that method. RE could do it. They probably won't though. Their games still sell butt loads.

I really don't think Dead Space 3 is a much better of example of balancing solo and co-op than recent RE's, honestly. Sure, you don't have to deal with a braindead ai partner, but it's still obvious that the level and encounter design cater heavily to co-op, and to top it all off, the game locks you out of a bunch of content when you're playing solo, which disgusted me, to be honest. I didn't hate the game, but I really don't see how it was any better of a single-player experience than RE5 and 6. It still seemed very co-op centric, to me.

But while some people feel that way, many more do not. This is why games like RE6 and DS3 are are so divisive and, to many, are the worst games in the series.

Coop is hugely appealing to a set group of players. It is hugely unappealing to another. It's a no-win situation, which is why games should either be envisioned as coop games from the first line of code or not have it at all. Something should either be or not he a coop game. When a game tries to do both, or please both, you inevitably fail.

That's just my two cents. I hate coop and hate playing campaigns with friends. If a serial killer told me to play RE6 coop with my friend or they will be sawed in half, I still wouldn't play it.

Imagine a serial killer has tied me and my closest, dearest friend to metal chairs. A bare lightbulb dangles from the ceiling. Our hands are cuffed in front of us, bound to controllers, and a flickering 32" TV displays the start menu for Resident Evil 6.

"Play," says a heavily disguised voice. The layers of reverb make it sound monstrous. "Play with your friend, or they will die." A saw blade whirls behind them.

"I will be Chris," I say, swallowing hard.

"Okay... I will be Piers," says my oldest pal, with whom I have grown up alongside. But before he can opt in, I press start.

"What are you doing!?" They cry. But they know what I am doing. I have made my decision.

"I'm sorry, friend. I must do this alone," I say.

They are eaten by the saw.

"I hate this game," I sigh.

But it's true. I would rather make a decision that directly extinguishes my best friend's life than play a coop campaign.
Haha, amazing post!

So 60fps confirmed? Already pre ordered from Amazon. Now after RE 2 remake all they need to do is remake re3 and CV then one can collect all the mainline RE games in PS4.

This is how I feel about MGS Peace Walker. They designed it for four-player co-op, so it's trash to play singleplayer. I don't like co-op games at all, but I do like Metal Gear, so I had to force myself through it, but God it's just the worst. If they had said, from moment one, "Hey here's our new four-player co-op game for four-players that can only be played co-op" I could have been like, cool, I'm not going to play it but you guys have fun. Instead they designed the game for four players but then still let you play it on your own, and it was just rubbish.

I just can't understand how anyone can consider the first Revelations a better game than 6.

Well, I'm considered some kind of freak because I really enjoy RE6 and Rev1 but disliked Rev2. Many consider Rev2 to be the second coming of Christ for some reason. I could go on with why I dislike Rev2, but I'd derail the thread and, judging from your avatar, you probably wouldn't want to hear it anyways.

I just can't understand how someone could have played through RE6 and say "This is terrible." I'd have to seriously question if that person has ever actually played a bad game before.

The PS4 version of Resident Evil 6 does not have AA. Or at least not full AA. PS4 version also has more motion blur.

I left motion blur on on the PC version (on PC it can be turned off) but motion blurring is used much less on the PC version.
Lighting and beams from the flashlights are not as good on PS4 either.
If I had to guess, the PS4 version is about the same as medium settings or medium with some low settings on the PC version

PC Max settings screenshots I took on 25 out of 40 brightness setting:

PC version Max Settings. FXAA3XHQ on.

The PS4 version with brightness turned up to 40 out of 40 brightness is still darker than the PC version on Max Settings at only 25 brightness:

Resident Evil 6 is still a bad game. Easily the worst numbered Resident Evil title in the series.
Overall I'd give it a 5.5 out of 10 with its lowest points being a 3 to 4 and its best sections about a 7.5.

By comparison I would rate the other Resident Evil games I completely finished as:

RE4 : 9.3
Resident Evil 1 Remaster: 9.0
RE5 : 8.4
RE Code Veronica: 5.0
That's pretty bad, it's a straight last gen port and it's running on medium and low PC settings? That can't be right
How does it compare to the last gen console versions? Was they running on extreme low settings with everything switched off
Also the brightness difference is odd.

Last gen versions could hardly keep 30 fps running, it would average 26 fps, screen tearing issues, and would have dips. So this is a much bigger improvement over the previous console versions, since it is 60fps, 1080p, but the trade-off to make it work at that optimability is medium PC settings (which look fine, honestly).

Still a bit worrying that it's medium PC settings even if it's 1080p@60fps it's obvious it could be better
What does this mean for RE7

I imagine RE7 will be 30fps but visually it'll be tailored for PS4 and Xbox One, we can expect it to look far better than what we're getting with these ports.

Right so it's more of an optimization thing
Was RE6 on PC a demanding game or something?

I can see why you would think this, judging from your gameplay video, you were absolutely terrible at the game so I wouldn't enjoy it either. It's not a bad game, you were just bad. Thanks for the videos and screens though.

The mercenaries costumes cannot be used in the campaign. This version is just the PC version on medium settings but with all DLC. It does run at 60 FPS.

The Left 4 Dead characters from the PC version are not in the PS4 version obviously.

There is one new mode (albeit kind of useless) in this version called Cycle Mode:

Any extra costumes or anything for RE 6? I'm planning to spend next week paying some PS4 RE6 Mercs goodness.

I wasn't really trying and still got an S rank in Mercenaries No Mercy. It was my first time playing that map and character. It is currently the highest score on the online leaderboards.
I did not even bother getting the time bonuses because I wanted to keep the video short.

How not. Now bad gamers are the cause of RE6 to be bad. Riiiiight.

Long videos on youtube have less retention.

Yeah, but Capcom should have put a tutorial at least rofl.

I remember a lot of hate for RE giraffe bj.

I enjoyed RE Rev 2 a lot. It's the first RE game i spent more than an hour in and beat.

If I liked that game will I like this?

RE5 is one of my favorite games because of the Indiana Jones vibes and co-op, I loved the shared inventory mechanic.

Odd these are released in reverse order.

Kind of hard to say, I think Revelations 2 has more in common with 6 than it does most other Resident Evil games actually. RE6 has far superior combat mechanics, but the pacing is uneven and there are fewer moments of downtime than in Rev 2. It's full of a lot of annoying things like vehicle segments and scripted setpieces between actual combat sections. How annoyed you are by things like that will probably inform what you'll think of it.

How're the vehicle controls, anyway? They said they made them better?

I just hope for 1080p 60fps and no tearing for RE5, then I will buy. And it seems RE6 has exactly that so my hopes for RE5 are high.

Lol I was going to post this, seriously lacking skill, unless he was playing the game with one hand and holding the cam with the other? Which by the way the screens and recording look way to black on ps4, my instinct tells me you could easily adjust the brightness on the menu.

Not odd at all, it's a savvy business decision by Capcom.

They're banking on people's hype for (mainly) RE4 to sell a few extra copies of 5 and 6 to those who cannot wait.

Obviously, fans of those games would get them anyway, but I would guess there's a lot of people who would probably stick to just RE4.

They never could outside of modding on PC. I had hoped they'd add that in someway tho.

Is it really medium settings? I find that incredibly... dumb. I have a low-tier graphics card and I can run RE6 at max settings at 1080p (never bothered checking what framerate I get tho) whereas many other PS4/XB1 games I couldn't get them to look near as good and run well as on the consoles.

If it really is medium settings then this just screams "Outsourced port job where no effort or optimization was done." Which isn't surprising... just stupid. If this is the case I don't think I'll be picking it up after all. Maybe after it drops under $10 or something.

I wonder how the remaster of 4 is gonna look compared to that independent project going on.

I'd totally do 4 again. Played it on PS2 once through and that's it.

PS4 version does has more motion blur, don't know about now days but it use to be a costly feature so they are sacrificing stuff for that.
But why, unless it looks better in motion

It'll be a decent upgrade from the PS3. & 360 versions. But it won't be on par with the re-texture.

I'm fine with medium PC settings. Maybe it's because of No Mercy? As long as it's 1080 and 60fps, because towards the end when PS4 came out and I started playing 60fps games and while I was still playing RE6 mp it became so unplayable along with TLOU on PS3.

Counting down to the RE2 remake :p

I imagine RE6 just needed the least amount of work. Capcom is probably hoping each release will boost its respective quarterly results, especially after SFV underperformed. So they're getting them out as efficiently as possible.

It's worth buying just for the better covers, haha. Geez, the RE5 and RE6 covers were so terrible, so glad they're using the superior art. Yea, optimally I wish more time was spent on upgrading these ports, but I've never been a PC gamer. I think just being able to play co-op at 60fps with minimal screen tearing will be awesome. Just gotta rope in a few friends now.

Just ordered RE6 from Amazon (I have a Prime membership trial this month from the PSVR order)

$17 shipped, really can't go wrong. Mercs looks fun and I'll hopefully enjoy the story mode. I really enjoyed Devil's Third so stupidity/jank is not an issue for me (have never played RE besides the beginning of 4, no affection for the series to be destroyed)

Ready for shooting and suplexing

EDIT: Also I have a question.... the contextual parry thing, can you parry everything (including bosses)? I know there's one I've seen in gifs before but idk if it's only some things. If it's everything that will be awesome

Capcapom does how many releases of 4, yet can't make another quite like it...?

4 + 5 for me. 5's coop is the best coop game ever. Can't wait to revisit + see if it's still up to scratch. Hope it's still splitscreen too.

6 can rot in the commercial abyss it was made in.

You'll be back, just wait till all of us are praising 6 on Tuesday!!

It's been a while, I remember Leon's campaign being really cool, at least.
