How a Gaffer and his 3D printer trolled the world (2nd NX fake)

I love it. That's a great level of commitment to some innocent trolling. The detail paid toward giving the printed sticks a rubber texture so they appeared just subtly different is great.

Going to laugh my socks and shoes off if the actual controller is just the same thing with grips, though.

So wait, you don't get a tag option after a certain number of posts (which is what I thought), a mod has to give you one?

yes, getting to choose your own tag after a certain number of posts would
1. Promote people "spamming" without actually saying anything in their posts
2. Make Tags nothing special which would defeat the purpose
atleast those are the reasons I would imagine it works the way it does.

Makes sense.

This would have to be a pretty elaborate fake, though I will acknowledge that it’s possible. But this design does match a Nintendo patent from a while back, and most importantly, Nintendo has not come out and said the photos are fake.

I can only think of a few reasons why they wouldn’t. Either this controller is real, or this is a prototype close to the real thing, or it is fake, but Nintendo is just clueless about this news cycle. I would not rule out any of these.

lol. He doesn't even know it's standard policy for any company, not just Nintendo, to not comment on rumours and due to that one reason he assumed they were real.

You thought people willingly chose to give themselves tags like "I'm an idiot. Please kick me in the balls if you ever see me"?

Watch GAF ablaze anew when the actual thing is the same just with the grips (12b) that the fakers missed in the patent images.

Don't be discouraged #TeamReal.

Afterall, Trev's leaks were proved to be correct [some yet to take place] and he was, reputedly, given a C&D.

Stand your ground #TeamReal!!!

Wake up Sheeple, your boring insistence that Obama is not a lizardman from Atlantis is wearing on my patience 💤
I do quite like the concept of it.

For the record I was never interested in a Wii U due to the muddled concept. It just looked boring and safe.

A few weeks ago on the Bombcast, they were talking about how they had an early DS in the office but it was tethered to a box that a dude from Nintendo dropped off and only he had the key to open it. So I found it odd that these fakes were just lying freely on a table somewhere.

There's a big difference between journalists having some hands on time and developers receiving development kits.

The only ones who truly believed this were the ones not bothering to think through the variavles of the "leak." But this did have "journalists" jumping on the bandwagon to grab those clicks. Their credibility has always been enbarrassing, but this time they didn't even hide it.

Either way, good job on this elaborate fake!

I didn't know 3D printers were capable of such detail without leaving the lines of the plastic tube they injected. (I don't know how to describe it better than that. Also didn't get time to watch the video at work so maybe there is steps to fix that.) maybe it's time to invest...

I like how people are judging anyone's usage of their own time while discussing this in a video game forum. Like, pot meet kettle. And what does it matter anyway?
I don't believe that the pot met the kettle looks 3d printed with Photoshop

Huh? I have over 20k and have this shitty one I never chose or even understand lol.
How do you not understand your tag? It's a play on the saying "Marvel would never..." Ala make a black widow movie, use extrmeist badly, etc

Actually, our printer doesn't work that way. It uses a laser beam to harden a resin instead, giving more detail (stereolithograhpy, SLA).

An FDM printer (as you described, like a Makerbot), that extrudes plastic like a glorified hot glue gun, will leave a much rougher surface.

The printer we use is the Formlabs Form 2, it's on the higher end of low cost printers, in the pro-sumer segment. There are others on the market, too, but the Form 2 definitely seems most popular.

Still though, I definitely needed to sand a while to get it completely smooth!
