Final Fantasy XV launches September 30th, demo today w/ Carbuncle unlock, has combat

When I got home my flatmate told me that he had heard there was some sort of explosion at a chemical plant nearby. Why do assholes have to spoil the six o'clock news like that?

Lol. The reactions in these Uncovered threads, man. I thought I knew what "spoiler culture" was about, but this stuff is through the looking glass.

I'm not one of the "this event is ruined" people, but the confirmed date doesn't need to be in the thread title. The date is one of the reasons they wanted us to be hyped for this event. A lot of people looked forward to this date and event because of it. I get it.

I wish yall wouldn't be so dismissive to people who are upset this leaked. They have waited TEN YEARS for this game, and the day of the event they've been excited for its farted out by GameSpot?

I'm just a little dissapointed, but I think I wouldn't be if this happened three weeks ago. But the day of the event sucks.

But to those saying the event is pointless now, do you think they were going to fill two hours with a release date announcement? There will be plenty to enjoy.

But how is a release date a spoiler? Or even the fact that we knew a tech demo of young noctis was coming. The only real news is the release date and the fact he demo is launching later today or tomorrow. We already know of the demo.

Hoping the box art is revealed. My wife knows one of several artists submitting work for the US box art and we're hoping his art makes it!

Although if not he'll print us a copy of his art work so we'll have a special cover :D

For better or worse it's part of the experience tonight. You can say getting excited for release days is emblematic of how sad and consumerist gamers are or something like that, but especially after all these years a final release date is exciting to fans when dropped at the end of a trailer.

I mean people flipped at 2016 for TLG.

Edit: basically I'm saying let sad people be sad.

So?

Are we really that starved for hype in today's society that the early revelation of a release date and a demo warrants an emotional reaction?

Screw getting caught up in some marketer's cycle of hype; the people who have been waiting for information got it even sooner, thanks to these leaks.

I'm curious - I had a US copy of Type-0 plus demo, but was planning on buying an EU copy of FFXV. I'm assuming the game possibly wouldn't recognise the demo for the Carbuncle unlock because it's from a different region?

The carbunkle bonus won't be from the duscae demo. It'll be from the demo released after today's event.

I didn't say that, but I understand why others are saying it. Big fans will still likely have things to look forward to (trailer, gameplay details, etc). For people like myself who enjoy Final Fantasy but haven't been following this game closely, there's no reason to watch the event because the release date was all we wanted/needed and is probably the biggest news.

Just to me. After 10 years it's about damn time we know the release date no matter which form that comes in. We know and to me it's hardly a spoiler. That's something they would announce at the end of the stream anyway. Plus the date has been rumored.

The demo I can kinda see. Even though we've known about that since the last ATR. Sucks the content got leaked though. But there will be more. They won't have a preshow, 1-2 hours event and after show with nothing more to show.

I don't really see what's so hard for people to understand why some people might be disappointed that the info got leaked. People are excited to experience the event. I myself am taking an hour and a half trip there today. I'm sure some people are probably flying in for it. Those are cool announcements that could have been thoroughly enjoyed by someone engrossed in the event (whether they're attending it in person or in stream). I don't think this by any means ruins the event, because I'm sure there's more to it than just those announcements. Still would have rather these leaks hadn't happened.

Even if we accept that the demo and date info are spoilers, which is still dubious, that still leaves the question: what the hell were you doing on the Internet today, least of all GAF?

If you're going to be so easily bothered by this kind of info, going on a website known for industry leaks was a pretty stupid move on your part.
One of the primary functions of this forum is leaking and discussing news.

They are spoilers honestly, spoilers for the event. Don't really see how that's arguable.

And I don't know why people are acting like this is any different than any other broadcast being spoiled, whether it's a show or anything. Bottom line is, people are excited to watch it, and it diminishes some of the excitement/surprise for some people when things get spoiled before they view it themselves.

So for me, I thought that would be understood and not be something that would be put into a topic title. Plus, there was already a leak topic for all that stuff.

For E3 we have a "Spoiler Free" conference thread, so that all people have to do that don't want to be spoiled by leaks and announcements before they watch is check their sub.

Why wasn't one made for this event? Seems like people are complaining about something that already has a solution.

A release date for a major video game has to be kept hidden on a game discussion forum? What next, will you be up in the thread for the next CoD screaming at people for spoiling the platforms it's coming out on in the title?

This is a goddamn video game discussion board. The whole point of GAF is that it's breaking news like this. I don't even wanna know how someone can get so sensitive to spoilers that a marketing event is "ruined" for you.

Basically. I'm paranoid about spoilers, but "please don't ruin blatant attempts to sell me a product" seems like a bit much, especially on this board.

People not getting what's wrong with them (almost desperately) wanting to play right into SE marketings hands is bad stuff, man. You guys are treating this like some watershed moment - it's a promotional event and nothing more.

The worst part is it's not even convincing. It's the event SE paid Greg Miller and some YT rando to pretend like they give a shot about FF for. It's flagrant as hell.

... Would you rather the event hosts be doing it pro bono?

I hope tonight's trailer is E3 2013 tier. I'm ready to be blown away. I've stayed up until 4am for Final Fantasy XV events that turned out to be bust so they better not disappoint! Another hype train crash at this point wouldn't be good.

I don't get the angle that being excited for the event is somehow a bad thing. It's mainly promotional for them, sure. It's still a fun one for viewers.

It's not gonna change how the game turns out.

Let me rephrase that: I can't begin to fathom giving so much of a shit about a release date. It's a "spoiler" but only in the weakest of terms.

What's the precedent for this? Is E3 or any other industry event treated differently? What makes FFXV some special snowflake that we have to dance around it in unique ways?
