God Of War 4 art leaks (Norse setting, Kratos w/ beard) [Up2: Polygon says real]

Which part of God of War 4 are you most excited about?

My guess is that'll it'll be sort of like Zelda. Same character design and name, but with different traits. It'll essentially be a new character.

SSM aren't idiots. They're aware of the common criticims that surround Kratos' character in GOW II and III.

David Jaffe wanted that kind of gameplay since GOW1.

Just gonna clarify what I meant since my post probably came off dumb as hell to people lol.

I was responding to the guy saying if you don't like Kratos then don't buy it, by saying that's what I've been doing and will continue to do. I don't like the character from what I've seen of my friend playing these games, youtubes I've watched, and the discussions about him.

It probably doesn't help that aside from that, I'm not super interested in the series. Norse helps. The possibility of another character would have helped. But I'd probably still put it off until I got my most hyped games out of the way first. So I'm thinking that since I was never super duper into it, it makes it easier that a character that I don't like could ruin it. That's better than me being super into everything the game does, and the character still ruining it. Right?

Oh and please...comparing him to Mario? He's recognizable, but not on Mario's level. (not you, but I've seen some people do it)

So much hate for Kratos. Damn.

I think they should put him in the NeoGAF mythology. After beheading all of the trolls and pummeling the mighty mods he finally gets GAF Gold for his family and brings an end to the saga.

I don't remember shit about God of War, is there any sort of pretext for Kratos to be able to just enter a completely different mythological setting or is it not literally the same character?

There is some sort of World War II foreshadowing thing at the end of the first one. Setting the stage for Call of Kratos.

He would be banned on the first day for post douchebaggery.

Why would you want to change that? You might as well have it star Thor and be about saving kittens! God of War is about Kratos killing Zeus!

Then it won't be GOW anymore but Final Fantasy with new main characters each episode (which is the the description of an RPG). Look what happened when Ninja Theory changed DMC and Dante (eventhough they kept the same name and didn't use a new character , just a redesigned one). No need to tell you the rest.

Nice. Been waiting to scratch that itch for my favorite genre. Where the hell is DmC2 and Bayo 3 too? It's been too long

Where do they say this? Bypass how?

They didn't admit to bypassing the password page. The explanation they gave was that the password protection page didn't really protect anything, and hence they were able to obtain the images.
The images were openly available in the source code. If you just loaded the password page it would automatically load the URLs of all the images without having to do anything. Though I guess the intention was you weren't supposed to look at them.

They accessed content that was intentionally locked behind a password. Therefore they bypassed the password protection. Whether you consider this hacking is up for debate but the fact that they bypassed the password lock on the website is not.

Plot twist: Kratos wakes up at the ruins of the Loom Chamber. He tries to pull back time again to prevent himself from ever selling his soul to Ares. He finds the moment he is looking for and tries to go back in time but little does he know the threads of life are all fucked up. So once he enters the portal he ends up in Norse mythology.

BOOM, GOD OF WAR IV!

I don't know how they are gonna tie the story together seems like it's gonna be messy. Also not really a fan of the redesign.

It's not hacking. Bypassing is debatable. The real crux of the issue is whether information, in this case art, has a reasonable right to be protected even if access to the pictures were not protected via password (They clearly weren't) and were front facing, even unintentionally, through the source code of the website page.

The more realistic option is, of course, Kratos chills in isolation for 500 years while the Norse gods come to power. No need to slice into another dimension or anything.

I hope there are more suits and costumes according to worlds or deeds or bosses killed, not just weapons. The design here looks very primitive as if it was straight from Far Cry Primal.

Kind of. But it was the equivalent of the page saying:

"ENTER PASSWORD OR DON'T SCROLL DOWN"

With all the images being further down on the page, and then scrolling down to the images without entering the password. I suppose that is bypassing the password in a way, but not really.

I think Kratos reincarnated as a norse half-god would've been compelling - a new character with subtle visual cues that remind the players of Kratos. And seeing this character experience a similar story to the Kratos we already know would've been interesting - norse parallels, etc.

Kratos as another angry general, and now Odin kills his family?

Please no :(

While it would be cool to see a character fight with frost giants, tear Fenrir apart through the mouth, and interact with Loki, Kratos just gives off this feeling that his name should just be General Dickery.

I wouldn't call it a different dimension, it's basically what you just said. :p
The portal I'm referring to is the one Kratos used to go back in time and get the titans.
But now because the threads would be all fucked up it would move him to a different time period.
And because story of the Ghost of Sparta had traveled the Norse gods already know who he is and what he is capable of and want him dead.

Kratos again? Oh welll...

Here's hoping for free camera this time.
Everything is wrong in this post.

That Uncharted 4 divisive ending thread proved to me that gaffers have no imagination, but in this regard you don't even have to imagine. They have talked about this openly, and it is the most awesome idea for a video game that, so far, hasn't been made. Check it out.

Yo people need to calm down in this thread my god. It's a fucking game about beating the shit out of gods. People want Kratos people don't does it really matter. We're all here to beat the shit out of Thor with mjolner. People saying they shouldn't change the religion, did you play acention. I liked that game but couldn't get hyped after killing zues.

I don't know much about Norse mythology so it could be cool. I'm also cool with Kratos. Dude is the mascot of the series.

Look through all the concept images. A lot of effort for a fake. Last time we saw this much concept art leak, it turned out to be Horizon from Guerrilla.

Lot of effort for a fake? Guy recently 3d printed a fake nx controller and we're not even questioning this?

I'll work on getting everything in the OP since the article got taken down.

Anyone who grabbed the images, if you don't mind, please dump them in here since I'm not sure they're all in my cache.

I remember watching that way back when and I forgot some of the details of what Jaffe was saying. Still sound confusing in a sense but kind of cool my main thing is what would be Kratos's motivating factor going forward? Like with regard to what was told within the first 3 games what would cause him to want to kill off these new set of gods?

Norse mythology sounds like an AMAZING and completely fresh direction to take the series. I'm also cool with bearded Kratos, but I'm worried about how they're gonna re-invent his character. Is this alt dimension Kratos akin to the Zelda series? Or is this literally the same Kratos we've seen become the edgy mass murderer that he is (in which case they have to retcon A LOT of characterization)? Regardless, I hope the themes in this new saga are more subtle than the "RAGE/REVENGE" theme that the trilogy beat us over the head with.

Who told you that Kratos would mass murder the gods of this universe?

Look at his ending in MK9.

Don't worry, it's not Kratos, it's the new character Sotark.

Kratos transcends his own mythos and rips a hole into a new one.

Hopefully all of this is place holder stuff just as proof of concept from some time ago and nothing recent. Otherwise it's either fan-made BS or SSM has been twiddling their thumbs for the last couple of years.

Seems like a logical progression for the series, but this wasn't a flattering leak of the game.

Do you think that? I am almost sure devs are leaking such stuff on purpose and then deleting them or not confirming theù as if it was a mistake or rumour just to test people's reactions. All these leaks happening these days from PS4K, GOW4, GOW4K being natively developed on PS4K aren't just random accidents.

It'll be interesting to see what a modern GOW looks like. In the current space of AAA, and to a lesser extent even indie games, perceived value seems to be a key influence in development. That is, as many on this forum have pointed out, most games released today are rather large or "open world" like, with somewhat nuanced RPG mechanics (looting, upgrade/leveling systems, etc). These games typically a) take a lot of time from the player, b) offer multiplayer or c) strongly encourage multiple playthroughs through even deeper RPG mechanics (dialogue choices that influence the story etc..).

Of course, SSM might follow the Quantum Break route and essentially ignore these traditions. Personally I don't want a multiplayer. The multiplayer in Ascension got old kinda fast.

MP is a dying trend now. It is omitted in the recent AC and Far Cry games.

Also post these screens: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=200175134&postcount=872
they are very informative about the flora and how tall it is compared to Kratos and how he interacts with them (the only gameplay informations so far) and in which world they are ( the article says that "Kratos will venture Alfheim, “Land Of The Fairies”, one of the Nine Worlds and home of the Light Elves (concepts show the Wall and the Temple Door)", and in those pics it is confirmed that he will visiti Vanaheim too).

I picked the beard but honestly the best thing about this is those environments. I still hope we get to see some of the cool architecture like the other games, I loved seeing the way they handled materials like marble and gold and all that.

That's some pretty awesome concept art. This game is going to be epic, that's for damn sure. And, I say hell yes to Kratos. I also like his beard. *.*
