Quantum Break PC is a mess (non-native render, badly optimized, overpriced, etc)

On IQ.
The IQ on PC seems pretty bad.

Does not look like native 1080p to me, same reconstruction technique used on Xbox One ?

Maxed out at 1440p.. as others have said IQ is not greatest but could be worse.

Quantum Break is four and a half times more expensive than Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Apparently, you can bruce force it to look a bit nicer via DSR to 4K, but it's still not native and run at 20fps on 980Ti. Moreover, it seems that the game is using the same resolution reconstruction technique as on XBO hence the blurry IQ. More gaf impressions at the PC Performance thread.

Update:

PC vs XB1 comparison.
This video shows it clearly. 60fps footage where the X1 is smoother than the PC version.

The game has no AF options by default.

PC FAQ from Remedy.
This is the only "official" word we have from Remedy so far in the form of an FAQ from their official forums:

Words from Remedy on gaf.
We are monitoring the discussio and what is going on. I had written a longer response, but it's just gonna be misunderstood etc, so what I will say is that, rest assured, lot of of work went into the Win10 version and we are looking at the reactions now as well as potential issues.

Eurogamer: What went wrong with Quantum Break PC.
Quantum Break has arrived on the PC and to suggest that the results are disappointing would be a massive understatement. PC gamers are left out in the cold with another high profile release failing to deliver expected levels of performance, features and customisation. As things stand, it simply isn't possible to achieve a smooth frame-rate on any PC hardware configuration and thanks to the profound limitations imposed on gamers by the Universal Windows Platform, there's no way to fix it.

We really enjoyed Quantum Break on Xbox One and the promise of using additional horsepower to smooth out the game's issues and play at 60fps was a huge lure in us fronting up the cash to buy the PC game, but the bottom line is that the PC version is a profound disappointment. The few improvements on offer cannot offset the major performance and image quality issues present in this port. What really stings is that some of these issues could be addressed by the community right now if not for the limitations of the Universal Windows Platform. We've expressed concerns over Microsoft's multi-platform initiative in the past and this situation is a perfect example of why. Until these limitations are removed from UWP, it's really hard to recommend purchasing any game that runs on it.

Yeah it's pretty bad but between the "Alt-F4 to quit" thread, the OT, and the PC performance thread, I think this angle is pretty thoroughly covered....

I'm so fucking disappointed. I was really excited to play this game, and was more than ready to drop money today. This port sounds fucked.

Why do we have this thread when we have an entire thread dedicated to PC performance?

Don't get me wrong, this shit blows as I planned to play on PC.

Microsoft is botching these ports on purpose at this point, so it forces people to buy the Xbox One. It was their plan all along guys!

I guess it's a crap shoot? But the game played well at 1080p on my i5-4690K, gtx 970 and 16gb ram system when I played last night, and the image quality seemed fine enough.

Goddamnit Japanese developers.

EDIT: Man, this sounds like a big mess from the other thread. Hard to believe this is coming from Remedy, I'm curious about the credits.

LOL maybe.

Or just asleep at the wheel on the pc team. Highlight of their strategy in the press conference, Total afterthought in execution.

I want to know why neither remedy or Microsoft has admitted there is issues. Even within the confines of the already high recommended specs.

Dammit I really wanted this to be a good port but Microsoft just had to fuck it up again. :( Theres goes my hopes of Halo MCC ever coming to PC.

I'm playing at 1080p on ultra. The only consistent issue I've come across is texture pop in, but frame rate was pretty consistent from what I played. I had a moment or two of frame rate issues, but I'd say it was fine 95% of the time. Can't give you an exact FPS figure though. I'm not at home at the moment.

your sacrifice will not be forgotten!
They're the hero PC gaming deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll criticize them. Because they can take it. Because they're not our hero. They're a silent guardian. A watchful protector.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Started it up on XBO and loving the game so far, but the IQ is distractinglg bad. The lighting is amazing, but the game is in desperate need of a resolution boost, shadow resolution boost, and SSR resolution boost.

As well as to get rid of the terrible ghosting effect that is a product of the specialized technique.

The game has a weird dithering effect, not sure if it's the result of something above or a combination of all 3.

Hoping they get the PC version sorted out fast. Still waiting on my key.

The resolution thing reminds me of unmodded Dark Souls 1 on PC.

I don't know if I should be disappointed at Remedy or MS.

And this was the real problem with the alt+F4 quit: where there is smoke there is fire, and this looks to make DS not only look like a fine port but a shining example of why FUCK UWP.

It always sounded like having a day-1 PC release was a last minute decision, I think there's a good chance they'll fix the game.

70€?
Seventy fucking euros?
Are you kidding me?
Remedy, I love you guys but what the hell?
Is this a joke Microsoft? Is this how you try to establish your store? An overpriced and badly optimized game? Yeah, shit, gonna delete my steam account right now, MS Store here I come!

I found someone with a comparable PC:

http://www.pcgamer.com/quantum-break-port-impressions/
But now the game is in a playable, if not perfect, state. The frame rate holds at 50-60 indoors, dropping to 40 outdoors. Some have suggested the game could have been unpacking data in the background, as I ran it just after the download finished. But these problems persisted for a good hour.

I’m running a GTX 970, an i7-5820K CPU clocked at 3.30GHz, 16GB of RAM, and playing the game on ultra settings at 1080p with the latest NVIDIA drivers. And, if it makes any difference, I have the game installed on an SSD.

Remedy's recommended specs for Ultra is:

OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790, 4GHz or AMD equivalent
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 980 Ti or AMD Radeon R9 Fury X
RAM: 16 GB
VRAM: 6 GB
HDD: 55 GB available space
DX: DirectX 12

I'm not as big a stickler on FPS as others, so what he describes sounds about right. So you'd probably hit an acceptable consistent frame rate on a GTX 970 if you came down a peg from Ultra.

I feel that it will be hard for MS to fix this glorious UWP/WinStore launch now so I'm kinda expecting them to stop supporting the whole thing in about two years from now. Wait, I'm having a deja vu...

Thought the PC version for this would of been good. So far the only game that has released well is KI it seems. Fucking sad, wtf u doing MS?
