Destiny: April Update Preview

Speaking of sandbox fixes, did they address Bladedancer hit detection at all? Or solar Titan hit detection? Or just hit detection in general? I miss grenades and horseshoes.

In all seriousness the Sunsinger had to be nerfed. Spamming burn nades with a Tier 5 Discipline/strength build and a shotgun is absolutely disgusting. Went on 20 game winstreaks in Trials because that build is so ridiculous. Storm callers needed a duration nerf; it's ridiculous to have the luxury to lap around the map and still have time to use your super.

Yep. PVE just keeps getting fucking shittier every time. These guys seriously have their thumbs up their asses and are so clueless as to how to balance their game.

Oh and fuck off Deej.

I seriously don't get the hate for deej he seems like a nice dude hateful statements like that just make you look childish.
Honestly I'd say 95% of the changes were great and many of the nerfs were justified/needed

But why should that affect the PVE side at all? Players like to feel powerful when they reach the endgame, not as weak as they were earlier on.

As a blade dancer that uses Mida and stillpiercer, I'm alright with most of this. But I will be playing dark souls 3 come the 12. Probably incursion on the weekend and hopping on Destiny for trials.

It shouldn't but it does. I don't agree with it at all but since Bungie is incapable of doing changes that affects PvE/PvP separately, they focus on what users play more, which is PvP.

Bungie fucking pve'rs still. Glad I never caved and got tk in the sale, bungle never changes.
You should've. It was a pretty good time for about two months.

I'm still holding out hope of it being an engine limitation which is what I'm hoping "incapable" means here lol

Yeah, that's what I assume it is. Hopefully they created the new engine with these changes in mind. I think TripleWreck alluded to this in one of his streams once.

I honestly can't believe shit is still getting nerfed in PvE for PvP balance purposes. Even if I liked the PvP that ain't right for PvE'rs.

They straight up said in the stream that they want a consistent experience when going from PvE to PvP and vice versa. I really doubt their engine is stopping them from separating the play modes.

Other than that, I'm trying to figure out what people are so pissed about. Most of the nerfs seem fairly light, but I guess any type of nerfing is going to piss people off regardless if it's justified or not. The only thing I can understand being upset about is that they still aren't doing jack shit about fire bolts.

It's mostly because all weapons in Destiny have been getting nerfed over and over again, to the point that most people feel like the weapons since Taken King have felt very bland.

This just makes the entire game feel less fun. You feel like every 4-5 months you get a little weaker, and a little weaker, until what's left?

Back in the day Crucible way crazy hectic, but it was fun. Now it's tempered and specialized, which is good for some reason, but for the most part, it feels watered down, and somehow it's watering PvE down with it.

I dunno, I feel this is an update that should have been out 4 months ago. It can't take them this long to bring out content that will last a week or two tops. I take it we wont get anything new now till the next expansion in Fall? Poor content pacing for the type of game it is.

Which is why I won't buy whatever follows, if I still have to play by the PVP rules. Hopefully you're right though, and it will be corrected next time, just like all the other nuisances, like the constant mandatory Tower visits, not being able to get bounties via mobile appand not being able to change a character without going back to the title menu. I presume, and hope, those are last gen limits.

They're never going to split up the weapon balances changes between PVE and PVP are they? I really wish they'd just force everyone to use generic weapons in PVP via loadouts that allow them to balance that portion of the game better, allows for better PVE balancing, and allows them to open up creativity in weapon design for PVE.

It's annoying when something you play is changed due to a separate gaming mode you never play.

I think Deej means well, he just has a way of coming off as condescending. It's not necessarily his fault, it's just how he talks/writes.

Though I haven't seen today's stream so I can't speak for that

None of the nerfs were needed for PVE. It's all the whiners on the pvp side that keep begging for shit to change.

Why was thorn nerfed again when it was rendered useless during the last patch?

Oh, hooray for Fusion rifle buffs! People are going to bring in their Vex and next patch it will be nerfed to shit again.

The vicious cycle continues as the band-aids keep wearing off.

Which would make sense if PvE encounters largely centered on small maps with 3 or 6 enemies of equal health. I am a staunch proponent of nerfs. Items need to be brought down as often as others are tweaked up. However, most of the reasoning we get in Destiny is solely tied to a chart. We rarely see the effort made to understand the chart.

"Guardians are using the most commonly distributed high impact sniper rifle at alarming rates. We will be reducing the ammo of that weapon to promote variety."
/ignores the 1KYS drop rate

"Guardians are using the raid heavy machine gun at a rate disproportionate to other weapons in PvP."
/ignores how awful the infusion system is and the price of synth in PvE

"Guardians are using flashlights at night so we are increasing the cost of batteries."
/ignores the power outage

Just know that if something was nerfed, it's because of some issue in PvP. Thorn was nerfed again because it's DoT is stupid in PvP. It wasn't rendered useless at all in the last match which was why it was used so much in the last few months.

As someone who hates the PvP in this game, it sucks to see my builds constantly fucked over due to PvP.

Thorn was still pretty good in regular crucible even after the initial nerf. Now it's getting nerfed again with dot damage and the disorientation it caused, which was needed.

These are some shitty changes both for PVP and PVE, The whiners about warlocks should be slapped. Those are some stupid changes.

Dissapointed, they really need to seperate the changes for each mode.

I still have no fucking clue why they didn't revert the Thorn changes to how it was at the start of vanilla Destiny.

It was "bad" but it had its niche. Then they just made it good at everything and have been nerfing ever since.

Yeah. Thorn was perfect in early vanilla. People shat on it because of its small mag and slow reload, but in the right hands it was a 2 hs kill. You just had to make your shots count. Bungie announced a buff for it regardless, and they actually did it much later while I felt Thorn was in a right place already. With buffing the mag and reload they simply made spamming the weapon viable. Don't act too soon perhaps.

Same goes for Mythoclast, the weapon that never was. The ultimate vanilla reward. Nerfed after some complaints and youtube videos before a reasonable amount of players got their hands on it. I got it like 1 day after the nerf, so I wasn't that thrilled. Found it useless in both PvE and PvP and never used it beyond stupid FR bounties. Then it went to 323 and it was the highest rated weapon... for a week (then it was the lowest because of no 331). Thing was borderline useless in the end.

Yea that's what I'm talking about. It had horrendous ammo issues, but it made up for it in the hands of a skilled player because of those 2-shot and leave kills. Then they went and made it one of the best handcannons, without even taking the DoT into account.

Now it's just a decent handcannon and the DoT sucks. I want it back to being a shit handcannon and the DoT being where the power is.

Why don't we just nerf all the good weapons to render them equally useless.

smh...

For a gun that is suppose to be "exotic" it sure has taken a giant turn around making it less usable than blue weapons.
The DOT effect was reduced significantly prior and after that effect, the use of Thorn was dropped significantly.

You don't simply nerf weapons because they're good. You start nerfing things when the meta is completely one sided, Hand cannons are not the dominant ones.

Even then, Bungie seem to not give 2 fucks about their PVE base because these nerfs were unnecessary for PVE activities. Do whatever you want to your pve meta, but why punish those who have no part in that?

Eh this is common in this kind of game. >_> just be glad it's not like Guild Wars 2, where the focus on esports ensures that PVP will be the focus of patches, even while world bosses have massive exploits and legendary weapons are being scrapped.

I really don't get how all these changes really affect PvE supers barely make a difference there and almost all the changes where buffs to weapons. The only things that were nerfed weapon wise were necessary. As a person who plays a lot of PvP these changes are a long time coming.

You have no idea how stupidly strong thorn is even after the nerf it's still has it's exotic ability and it's never been used as a PvE weapon but it broke the game
In PvP

Just drop this whole balancing shit altogether. Give all exotics and classes op abilities and let them develop their own metagame. The only other solution is to nerf the shit out of everything to the point of there not even being a difference between weapons and abilities.

So I ask again, why touch it for pve when it was an issue for pvp. I certainly used it throughout it's lifespan for pve and pvp and thought the DOT & range were nerfed to shit during the last patch.

I'll ask the same thing again for all sub classes, why nerf them in pve activities when they were never a problem. Sunbreakers are useless now and takes forever to down any enemies with shields on since Bungie have to cater to their pvp base, pve players get the shaft in all this.

Stormtrance is a weird super that needs nerfs and buffs to make it decent. It'll be interesting to see how fast the super bar is used up using ionic blink and transcendence. If they aren't using blink you can sniper head shot them, shotgun+melee rush, or even just run away from them and laugh as your teammates get fried.

Good thing I have all 3 classes that I gear up and pvp with.

It's interesting after I think I dropped out of Destiny around October/November, so many people I saw posting in the OT at the time have since as well.

I don't know how Bungie managed to fuck it up so hard, they had so many good things in place and then just dropped the ball after TTK launched.

While it's true we can't predict what will happen in practice I can say I've never used a synth and thought to myself; 'I wish this weapon held less ammo.'

If special ammo is a controlled quantity then nerfing max capacity seems silly.

Bungie doesn't do nerfs that affect PvE/PvP separately. Why don't you understand this?
