Durante's Dark Souls PC Performance Article Now Available on PC Gamer

Guess they used this occassion to update the game + DLC.
Went from 1.01 to 1.03 and the OST is complete now instead of the three random tracks it had before lol

Can you test the more demanding areas? People have been saying they run much better on PS4 after this patch, but I'm not sure if they just lowered settings or if they changed something with the game's code. If it's the latter, they'll improve on PC as well.

I don't think I've been to any of the areas in question yet, I'm at the crucifix wood right now. But I'm sure Durante will weigh in.

Nice write up. Should be good on CPU for most of the game. My 670, not so much. I will see what I can do. I already have a good idea thanks to your article about what to turn off or down. Honestly though I don't really play these games for the graphics but I have enjoyed 60fps on PC to this point. Really hope it scales down enough.

Lets say the only positive thing that "delay" caused is the game will be updated with more than just a day one patch on release.

i hate being friends with Durante on steam because while i stare at the countdown timer waiting for Dark Souls III to release, I get to see his 14.6 hours played, AND that he's in a VR game while I'm waiting for my vive shipping email to even come in.

Can confirm the new update on PC improved the framerate HUGELY. What once ran and chugged along at about 24-30fps is now a rock solid 60.
All areas I mentioned previously in the thread as being "dogshit" are now are super smooth, very impressed

Good to hear. Curious what they changed.

Is the firelink shrine fog gate bug still a thing or is that fixed also?

Fantastic article.

But I am a bit worries about this issue with greater than 60Hz monitors. I wouldn't mind a bit more clarification on this if anyone knows anything. Would a GSync monitor be affected?

Even if it is, you can manually change your refresh rate to 60 before launching. I have to do that with a few games already :(

Pretty cool that they got a handle on the performance before release. From has come a long way.

Just finished pre-loading. Only 68 hours to go.

Patch 1.03 is great.
I had slowdown and stuttering in these areas:

Now they run 60 FPS all the time, even the last one, where I used to touch 32-40 FPS.

YOOOOO

Someone on www.wsgf.org posted a 21:9 screenshot that was pillarboxed to the closest 16:9 resolution. :(

Doh. What games are you having to do that for now?

Dariusburst had the problem but they fixed it with a patch a few weeks after launch. Now it only goes fast if G-Sync is enabled.

SquareCells' animations play at twice the speed when running at 120hz versus 60hz but it's a puzzle game so it doesn't really matter.

Killer Instinct apparently runs faster on monitors over 60hz (I don't own it).

I know I have more games with the problem but I'm honestly having trouble remembering. It's not very common.

That's excellent news about the update. Hopefully good news for my aging graphics card.. lol. Can't wait until Monday!

Rock solid 60 fps in every zone?

Based From.

If From's next game isn't on PC it will be a real shame.

I suspect while finishing their contract with Sony they'll probably work with another third party like Namco on a separate project. Despite Bloodborne selling well, it's nothing compared to what DS3 will do on 3 platforms.

But hey neither here nor there. Glad to have these games on PC in a really great state.

Can someone confirm that custom resolutions are possible? I tend to play on a 1366x768 Panasonic LCD, Darksouls2 supported it.

thanks
