Here's a list of the Steamspy-estimated 'best selling' New Releases for the first 3 months of 2016. I kept the margin of error data because the nature of the thing is fluid and changes. I might add a list later for the best selling not-new games during Q1.

Steam ownership changes between 01.01.2016 and 01.04.2016 for new titles.

Stardew Valley
The Culling

Are the biggest surprises this Q1 no one was looking for those games and out of no where they have massive success.

Congrats to Stardew Valley. I don't think its my type of game but for the people who are into that genre I heard its really good.

I'm only at the end of year 1 in Stardew and I would buy the hell out of a sequel or an expansion. I seriously can't get enough. It's so good!

Hitman sure looks like a bomb on pc at least.

& I hope the next stardew/undertale will be an Animal Crossing game. I mean if Nintendo doesn't want to release a non-handheld one, then hopefully someone else will.

Also hitman will be fine, once they have all the content out.
They will release the game again with everything and then people will pick it up more.

For most folks its just not worth it right now.

Stardew Valley was naturally primed for success. Widely considered to be the best games in a genre that's underserved on the platform. It's good to see it getting the sales it deserves.

For you.
The Division numbers are fucking insane considering it's only Steam Store purchases at full price. Holy holy.

Hitman seems fine. Most people are probably waiting for more episodes or even the full launch before buying it

Happy to see The Witness at over 100k, I don't think that can generally be expected for a puzzle game at its price without any discounts.

Also good results for Dragon's Dogma.

Yes, and it keeps getting better thanks to the post-release support. There will also be co-op and lots of other stuff in the future.

Alright I'll have to give it a go at some point. Rune Factory can't be topped for me, no way no how, but HM/SoS could be.

My dog was murdered by a 3.5mm audio port and I will not rest until the standard is dead
Good for Stardew Valley. I enjoy playing it, although I'm already bored of it. Fun while it lasted. I am only at spring but I'm kind of bored.

is the culling basically hunger games: the game in game form?
Yes.

I really wanted to play The Culling but I purchased it recently and every time I launched it, it would just crash after the start screen, and I couldn't find a solution anywhere online so I had to refund it.

:(

Man...I wish SFV, Hitman and Homeworld Kharak did better than that.

Maybe if Street Fighter V had a real story/arcade mode and Hitman didn't have major performance and always-online-related problems, they would have sold better. They got what they deserved as far as I'm concerned. I know SFV would be in my library if it had the singleplayer content I look for in a fighting game.

I am sad for kharak. It's a bit light on content but what is there is very good.

at launch Blow said the numbers were roughly 50:50
wow, thought (without having any idea, just gut-feel) it had sold almost a million.

On Kharak: I think the price is too high. 40 is very close to AAA territory. In quality it looks close to AAA, but not that close. Let it be 60% off in the summer sale and they'll make more money than they have so far at the higher price. Also not sure if the "Homeworld" in the title is helping, people might be hesitant if they don't know anything about the Homeworld universe.

How were the previous Far Cry sales on Steam? Seems very low.
Also, please give us Dragon's Dogma 2. :(
