My problem with new guys is instrumentation, they always use same guitar, where Mick used different set of instruments for almost each song, and melody wise, only Arbiter theme is executed very well, Rash misses in a lot of stuff, Kim needs more lyrics parts, and Tusk is incredibly insipid for a viking, at least fits his new design.

Yea. This was one of my initial worries when Celldweller was initially announced as one of the composers to take over. I was hoping being paired with Atlas Plug was going to help prevent all the tracks from being too heavily rock oriented.. but that hasn't been the case so far unfortunately, so the tracks feel far more rock covers of classic themes more than unique takes on each character's concept. This obviously works best for something like Arbiter, where Halo sounds like that in general anyway... but for characters like Kim Wu it really does feel like the new music leans far too heavily on the original score, just now with heavy guitar riffs over it. The only tracks I felt stayed a little too close to the original source in the first two seasons were Maya and Cinder... and in Cinder's case it's excusable, as I imagine the original theme is basically considered sacred by the fans.

I kinda feel that the current team would never produce tracks like Glacius', Spinal's, Thunder's or Combo's... and certainly not Orchid's (even though that's now one of my less favored tracks).

I feel Spinal's theme is the most difficult to approach when it comes to care. Would any other composer spend three months working on collecting the pieces of a track and collaborating with 20 other people for a single stage?

Probably not. Which is why it sucks that they couldn't keep Mick on till the end.

My shadow finally stopped losing matches and won three matches since the last time I played. Yay for her!

Wish there was a way to watch her matches.

Mick is irreplaceable. His themes in S1 and 2 are straight up god tier.

I agree, but these companies need to take some chances. Give all this young talent a chance to compose music for each season.

I need a Metro Boomin season, a Noah '40' Shebib season, a TM88 season.

Too much talent that could take stage fight music into a surprisingly fresh direction. Especially when it comes to KI.

Question guys, so when ever a new game is made characters are left out and new ones are made. So based on this knowledge outside of guess characters, what characters are you ok with not returning, and what characters must return no matter what?

Also what troupe haven't been covered that needs to be?

Sadira aside, I think everyone should return. They are all cool characters in a way or another. I mean, the roster isn't that huge, so cutting characters in the next game isn't necessary, right? Not even Sadira "should" be cut, as terrible as her design is.

I'm really, really fucking pissed off right now. I should not be doing as bad as I am. I don't have a fucking clue what I'm doing wrong every single fucking match.

Part of me wants to call it quits, but doing that won't fix anything. I've already tried. It doesn't work.

I need a drink.

Oh just her design? I thought this was gameplay gripe you had for a second lol.

The way to fix Sadira is to give her a spider body.

I practiced manuals a bit. So I'd use them for safer, less damaging combos or to get the opponent to lock themselves out and switch to heavy doubles or whatever right?

Yeah, mostly to bait out lockouts and then just go ham with heavy doubles, Shadow moves, and whatever else to get maximum damage out of the rest of the combo.

I think I might be confused about the DLC and need some clarification.

It seems that...

1) If you only buy the characters, there is no way to get alternate costumes, so if you want the alternate costumes, you absolutely have to get the Ultra bundle. If you can get the costumes with KI Gold or leveling up, I can't see that because I got the Killer Instinct Complete Collection for both seasons a while back that I haven't played much due to my stick being in storage since I moved right after, so all my characters have their costumes and when I look at a character I don't own it shows me only to buy them with real money, not about potential costumes.

2) KI Gold unlocks pointless (IMO) stuff for your profile card or art to look at, music tracks (nice if they play in matches), or accessories and colors you'll naturally unlock if you like a character anyway.

3) KI Gold could also be used on a booster to level up and get said unlocks faster, which seems to be the only point of leveling up faster. So if you're getting an Ultra bundle it comes with booster already, meaning the KI Gold is only for straight out stuff-acquisition, diminishing the value of the booster because the point of that was to level up faster for unlocking stuff, and then the gold is mostly spent on unlocking stuff for characters you'd rather be buying for than earning via leveling because you apparently don't like those characters enough to unlock their stuff by playing with them, so the stuff is only worth as much as you'd want to change the look of characters you don't really play.

4) Leveling up might be related to match making in such a way that booster is a way of being fraudulent and you'll more quickly run into matches where you're getting your ass handed to you on the regular?

5) Shadow Jago can only be purchased in a bundle with regular Jago, which I have, and KI Gold which seems to be pointless, so I'm basically getting half the value as someone who doesn't have Jago, or from another perspective, losing some value I got in my purchase of the Complete Collection.

6) I guess before I only bought the accessories in that I could earn them with unlocks or KIG? I got the Complete Collection which had a description of:
"This is the biggest KI bundle we offer! This pack gives you EVERY Killer Instinct Fighter from both Season 1 and Season 2 Ultra Editions – a total of 16 fighters! Additionally, this pack includes ALL the costumes, ALL premium accessories, Killer Instinct Classic, and Killer Instinct 2 Classic for Xbox One (ESRB: M). Complete your Killer Instinct collection! *Season 2 fighters released monthly."
I definitely have all the costumes unlocked, but each character only has one accessory option unlocked (are those the "premium" ones?) and the rest I have to level up to get. So now I look at the Ultra season 3 description and I see...
"The Ultimate Season 3 Bundle! Get early access to fighters! Includes 8 new fighters - including Rash from Battletoads, Arbiter from Halo, Kim Wu, and Tusk! Includes VIP Double XP Booster, 8 retro costumes, accessory sets, bonus retro character colors, and 18,000 KI Gold (limited time only). Rash, Arbiter, Kim Wu, and Tusk available now - all other content to be released over the season."
And I'm like okay, well the last bundle I bought did not unlock the accessories it mentioned, as I have to do those by leveling up, so does buying this bundle mean I am paying for the opportunity to unlock them, and that if I get the Combo Breaker bundle they won't even show up to unlock in my game? My last bundle did not mention extra colors in the description but they are there to unlock, so apparently I didn't have to pay extra for the ability to unlock those like I did the accessories (I must assume?), so what does it mean that this mentions colors now? What am I paying for?

Clearly I am very confused on these things and all I want to know is basically if I get the Combo Breaker bundle, will I be able to earn the costumes/colors/accessories just by playing? But if anyone could clarify this other stuff, especially the stuff I seemed to have paid for and not gotten, that would be great.

WHY IN THE FUCK! Did they reset ranks? My son was killer rank and saw today they reset so now you have to redo all your qualifying. That is just straight BS for day one players.

They rebalanced the entire game.

I still don't see how resetting ranks matters in a rebalance , it's a slap to players who have put in the effort so what is moves and fighting changed a little.

EDIT: doesn't matter he just beat a bunch of asses in frustration and got his rank back.

Sounds like he got it back so quick because it only reset the rank but remembered his MMR. Little real loss for those who have the skill to belong in those ranks.

I guess so. I don't play it but love watching him play. Just seemed odd. I just remember how salty I was when they reset Halo reach.

Yeah, reset on rank standings but remembering MMR for more accurate placements is the way to go. I remember when they reset HotS and you also lost your MMR, so even if you were a really good player you were truly starting all over again, and it was much worse there since it is a team game so you could be a good player and still lose from being put on bad teams, making it take a lot longer to prove yourself worthy get matched with good teams and climb back than in a 1v1 game like this.

It matters because the game is different now. And how is it a slap to players? Competitive rankings get reset all the time. Sports teams start 0-0 every year, MtG legal cards get changed, Starcraft ladders reset etc. If he is a killer he can make it back.

I wish it was her default costume, so I wouldn't have to pay for it :O
So if you have the character but not the costume you have to pay money for it piecemeal? Can you get it with KIG?

You get everyfin if you bought the ultra edition, but I only bought S1+S2. In that case, yes, you need to buy the retro costume with real money. It costs $5 I think.

Edit: No, unfortunately you can't.

Well for leaderboard purposes it's probably a good reason to reset. If someone gets a massive lead it's just not fun for anyone who starts late and has to grind to catch up really.

Keeps competition fresh.

That all said, it's been pretty ergh as a fighter newbie like me. :D

I'm okay with the ranking reset, I've always felt like I belonged in Silver anyway. I do miss the 2 out of 3 matches though.

Ah. I have the Aria costume because I bought the complete bundle last season, but I was wondering what is different if I were to get a Combo Breaker bundle for season 3.

I was worried I wouldn't be able to get the costumes any other way, but if I can just buy a couple if I want them (Halo 2 Arbiter pls) then I think the Combo Breaker option will be best for me. If you only have the base character you can get accessories with KIG tho, right? I just noticed all accessories for the retro costumes are unlocked for me, so maybe those are the "premium" accessories included in the bundle I got while the "normal" accessories are only level/KIG unlocked even if you got Ultra.

They really could have been a lot clearer with their DLC system.

KI misses Mick Gordon. Not feeling any of the new tracks, very generic basic stuff and overuse of the classic KI theme in the main orchestration. Tusk's theme could have been good but they used the only good part of the song as a temporary track when landing larger combos. The rest is like a Viking lullaby to put babies to sleep, not a fighting game theme.

Aplug and celdeweller have been making the same 2 songs for years and years, my heart sank when I heard they were the new composers. The new themes have 0 soul or any sort of depth to them, it's the same few rock songs with a different theme. Kim Wu is a rock song that has eastern twing twang to it, Rash has a rock song that has 8 bit noises in it, Tusk is viking generica, Arbiter is the only decent one since they just made baby's first Aural 'Halo' theme. They put it in one layer that basically labels the song so all you hear is that label and nothing else to it, take out Kim Wu's twing twang and what's left? You can't do that with any of Micks songs at all, his themes screamed the character names from the first note to the last.

Watch Mira have a rock song with like bat noises and thunderclaps in it and RAAM just having a random retitled Celdweller song since no one knows any of GeOW's music.

I think so. Haven't tried buying a separated character yet, but it would be really weird to not be able to buy accessories for them.

First off people didn't put much effort into killer last season because it was easy. It had far too many meh players in killers. I wish people would stop acting like something should be handed to them. Get better and you will get to killer.

Secondly its being treated like a brand new release, so that means fresh start with new mechanics and characters

Hm, well I contacted XBL support about it and I am supposed to have the colors and accessories unlocked for the normal costumes like I do for the retro ones, so they are having me reinstall to see if that fixes it. Good my monthly data cap has flipped since I downloaded Halo 5 and others.

Don't place so much importance on what rank bracket your in. Focus more on whether the competition you are getting is suitable. Your time In ranked will be much less frustrating.
