Xbox One Revision and probably a NEW Xbox outed by FCC Filings

The result of the external PSU is that it is more quiet than the PS4. I don't agree with the decision, but I can see why they made it.

I'm surprised you'd call it "ugly". It's pretty neutral, in my opinion.

Compared to Wii U and PS4? Well, maybe not ugly but... feature less maybe? (It's so huuuuuuuuge. I couldn't care less really but I can't really hide it in my setup. First World problems and all.)

I have both an Xbox and a PS4 and I enjoy them both but I plan on only buying one of the .5 versions if they make them. Whichever company brings me a 4K blu ray player first with some game graphics bumps will get my money first.

Excatly. The market has shifted, and I think people are really underestimating 4k. You cant buy a TV in the midrange that isn't 4k, and with 4k you need hdmi2.0 and hdcp2.2.

I think a lot of posters in the ps4k and nextbox thread keep downplaying 4k. It's here, just like 1080p was in 2008

Each to his own, really. I don't have an issue with the size, since it's the only thing (along with my receiver) in my entertainment center. I can see why some people think it's too big though.

I have seen 4K, and it is good. The moment I saw the wildlife documentaries running on a 4K tv I was hooked with getting one. I'm buying one in May actually because I want a size upgrade because my 50" is not cutting it in my new house. I just want the first system that's going to give me an option to watch 4K content, and preferably not a PC.

Like when? In the 90's? It's definitely the ugliest current console. And the functional design (with the separate power brick) is just bizarre compared to the PS4.

Well it depends on who you are asking, my wife likes the xbox one waaaay more than the ps4 for example, since it looks more subtle. The angled design looks like a game machine, the xb1 looks like a surround receiver. Don't get me wrong she would love to have no electronic devices anywhere but if they have to be there at least they should be subtle and I think that was what ms was going for. She hated the 360 most of all the consoles I ever owned.

Of course I still got all 3 consoles, a pc and a big surround receiver under my television though. I just have to endure the occasional nagging ;)

I want them to sort out the dropping wireless controller issues, I still get them on a new controller sitting only about 3 feet away from the xbox one itself, nothing is in between. Worst issue the console has IMO.

I kind of think this is just a slimmer xbox one that will play UHD blu-rays and support 4k streaming services.

Even though major nelson touted the OG xbox one has a 4k ready hdmi cable included, i don't believe it can output any 4k source.

hope:
I just hope this new xbox one includes better audio codecs for blu-ray movies. Such as dolby atmos or dts-x or just any HD codec. Can't even use my atmos set up with atmos enabled blu-rays on the xbox one right now :'(

Fuck this I'm going to PC. :p

Interesting to see what the perceived power difference will be if/when both Sony and Microsoft release these revisions.

Really? Isn't that just a question of changing your audio options to "bitstream" or some such?

wow is this some sorta known issue? Currently playing my Xbox One from a good 8 foot away and no issues, and it never has had issues.

I have a feeling this is just a revision cosmetics wise,so I'm going with Xbox Slim.I guess we will really know in the next couple of months.

One thing I do know though,is that E3 is looking mighty exciting hardware wise

I had issues for a while and then futzed with my router (including disabling the 5 GHz band on it) and don't remember having issues since then. It's likely some form of interference which may mean some people are SOL if the interfering equipment isn't under their control (e.g. it's a neighbor's). That said, people who have it tend to have it even with their controller cabled in, which is just extra-weird. Hell, if you check the EVO 2015 KI Top 8, it happens there at one point, and their controllers are wired in.

This VHS recorder could definitely use a redesign.

most quiet VHS recorder I've ever used. May not be slickest design.....but my external HDD makes more damn noise than the thing....its nice knowing I won't hear turbo jet fans when shit hits the fan in terms of GPU usage

Hope we don't expect a more powerful version as I literally have a xbox one getting delivered tomorrow!

Fair to say it is my second one, sold my other around 18 months ago and use my PC as my main gaming platform.

Just make everything as small as the Wii U and I'm glad. The XBO looks fine, but again, it's just that's it's so huge and it needs a power brick. If I could change it into a smaller box I'd do it immediately, I'm not sure if it would be worth the money for me though.

too early in the morning for this level of hyperbole

eh.... idk...

It is grossly huge when compared to the two other current gen consoles.

Bone needs a power upgrade more than the PS4 does, but I'm thinking it's just a slim.

It's big, but looks pretty good. The visual design is also highly consisted between the console, controller and everything down to the Kinect and USB/HDMI cables. Even the power brick is stylized to match the console. The PS4 is an ugly shape, imo, and there isn't half as much attention to detail in the extras.

Fuuly expect to get two announcements at E3, an XBO slim, and an XB2. The slim will allow them to either be more profitable with the XBO at $300, or it will allow them to comfortably drop to $250. I see the XB2 to launch this fall for $400-$500. I suppose they could wait and have a separate event for the XB2 in July, but I definitely think it's coming this year.

.

The Xbox One is an ugly console for sure. I wouldn't mind if it didn't have a power brick but it does. I expect a slim design to be announced at E3 and the new, beefier console next year.

Primary goal was probably: NO RED RING

Man, if they do an all-digital version without a disk drive that would seriously tempt me to finally check out the XB1.

I agree. It's a big box, but it's dead silent because of it. It's a trade off I am more than happy to make. Size aside it is also my favorite looking game console of all time. I just like the simple and sleek design.

I've had 4k since the beginning of 2015... it's fucking glorious lol

Sure, but my launch unit Xbox One doesn't sound like a jet engine when playing games. My 20th Anniversary PS4 just cranks up and is loud as shit.

It better just be the slim. Phil was quite adamant that he disliked the concept if an upgraded console.

No, he didn't like the idea of a half step. I think Microsoft is at the poi t where if they're releasing new hardware, it'll be with better hardware in all regards but able to play everything that's already out. If you're already redesigning the board to make it smaller, why not try and update things like the GPU, CPU and memory if there are better options available?

That's exactly what I'm saying. Every piece of hardware in my entertainment set-up is black and square. The XB1 blends-in nicely, you really can't even tell there's a gaming console in there, unless you know what you're looking at, and that's the way I like it.

I can appreciate that some people don't like it, but I think the looks & size of it get way over-blown. I'm certain that future Xbox's will get smaller, but after the "Red Ring" fiasco, I can't blame MS for wanting a bit more room to dispense heat. I would'nt mind a smaller Xbox, but I really would'nt want MS to go for some crazy design. I find elegance in simplicity.

Back when I received mine (end of 2014) I did a comparison to see what it needed to work "as advertised", including an external HD.

Granted, now that OTA is available in a much more size-effective USB device that would take a decent chunk out of it. For comparison, here's the Sega trifecta.

The console itself has a larger footprint and needs more vertical clearance for carts, although the cabling is surprisingly less bad if you get the right stuff.
