It is grossly huge when compared to the two other current gen consoles.

But silence is golden...

That and the PS4 is a proper minger.

Yep. Console size doesn't mean a damn thing for most people, as it gets put on a shelf and is only moved a handful of times the entire generation. Noise however, can effect every single play session, and it's why I almost never use my PS4 anymore. If MS makes a smaller console with 14nm, they better make sure to maintain the silence of the box.

An Xbox One revision at this point makes an incredible amount of sense. The console currently available was designed for a totally different skillset which, although quickly abandoned before/after launch, is still hampering Microsofts market share and brand image.

A new xbox 1.5/slim/whatever is needed for a multitude of reasons. To name a few:

1. A fresh, new start. New marketing, games and features that showcase Microsoft is taking the console in a new direction.
2. Remove redundant features like HDMI in, maybe even the Kinect port.
3. Implement a slimmer, more cost effective design.
4. Upgrade CPU, GPU to improve better gaming performance. At least 100% capable of 1080p, 60fps. Let alone 4k. Average gamer cares about this more than you think.
5. Potentially make the NEW Xbox One Occulus Rift/Hololens etc. compatable right out of the box.

E3 2016 is shaping up to be a very important expo for the entire industry. Could very well illustrate where Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo plan to take gaming to in the next decade.

I'll be seriously disappointed if they get away from HDMI in. I don't want to go back to my piece of shit cable box UI.

I probably wouldn't get one if it was xbox slim, my current phatty is super quiet, and runs for hours with tv games and media. I cannot run the PS4 for anywhere near the same amount of time without it driving me mental.

They need to let me stream games to a PC in the background while still watching tv. I love the HDMI pass through but this is a real pain point for our family

Again, what about a revised Xbox would make the Surface name applicable? Where's the touch screen?

It doesn't make sense no. No need to come up with a new name scheme for something that is known all over the world. At least in the important markets like Brazil and US. EU doesn't matter in this regard.

Jokes aside, I think they should keep it simple. Name it either Xbox Two (if it's indeed a version 2), Xbox One Plus, Xbox One S or something like that.

If the intention is to replace the OG XB1 rather than sell them alongside each other (apart from clearing old stock) then a rename is probably unnecessary. The "S" or "Slim" or whatever might be handy to refer to in the context of GAF conversations, but isn't really useful outside the enthusiast market.

For me a big part of it is that MS has shown that they give a shit about compatibility, and they are clearly working to make games work across a range of devices. Sony on the other hand has done nothing but move away from cross device compatibility. I also just trust MS more to get conpatibility right on the software end of things.

I fully welcome a new way of looking at console cycles, I just don't trust Sony to pull it off properly.

Another thing, according to the rumor current PS4 games won't look better on PS4K unless they are patched by the devs. For some reason when it comes to this I have more faith in MS pulling something off where games would perform better right off the bat.

But if that's the case, why is there nothing on that? Nothing about better hardware or anything. Just small changes that really don't mean all that much. But if we look at the Sony information, boy that's a whole lot of stuff. It's possible that these are controlled leaks by MS, but wouldn't you want to leak at least one very good thing?

When those games come out that truly use the hardware to its fullest, like a Rockstar game, MS won't want to miss out on that or get a much lesser version where the only difference isn't just a bit less of grassy fields. Roll on E3.

Of course most games would need to be patched. It's not like the old game knows to look more more power or something. Console games are designed for one specific power level, not to take advantage of variable configurations like PC.

If Sony and Microsoft could get developers to patch big games with improvements though, we'd really be in business.

I think currently released XBO games will need to be patched for any kind of improvement outside of maybe a more stable framerate in some games, but I think scalability will be built into UWP games going forward. I would think the combination of DX12 and UWP makes this a much more viable model for MS.

I think that it'd be a tough sell to try and get developers to work on such patches for old games.

"Enhanced Edition" - $59.99

It's gonna happen. And people thought Remasters were bad.

Pretty much every single OG Xbox BC game performed better on 360. Those games weren't patched and were running straight from the disc. I think it's possible.

Thinking about this - The Hypervisor could simply allocate the resources needed for original Xbox One games to run like always without breaking the compatibility. I wonder if this was planned all along?

Agree. Always being tied to Xbox gaming/Xbox Live notifications while watching TV is very convenient.

Watching TV and then jumping straight into a game's lobby after accepting an invite (since all of my XB1 games are digital) is one of my favorite features this gen.

I would pay for an add on accessory if the "Xbox One Plus" doesn't come with a HDMI in port.

Also, I doubt that the Kinect port will be removed with the Cortana update on the way.

ANATEL - the equivalent to the FCC in Brazil is not so strict when it comes to NDAs of Photos:

Nice job FCC, state its 1682, actually 1683. Just looks like a chip or something? I'm confused to what the hell that is.

Nah. That's ANATEL. They confused photos/model numbers I guess.
We are seeing the WiFi chip I'd wager.

I've never had an issue with how the XB1 looks or it's size. It fit's nicely in my entertainment set-up, it matches the rest of my gear, it runs whisper quiet and never gets hot. I suspect that 90% of the people who poke fun at it, don't own one. Do you?

I agree with your positive spin for the most part. And I have 4 Xbones (3 elites in diff rooms, 1 launch unit at my parents country home), so I'm without a doubt a fan of the ecosystem. But I still like to poke fun at the design. It absolutely needs a slim revision.

Is it wrong that my main concern was the off camera units on the lower half of that ruler? Those aren't inches! From googling it might be a Japanese Shaku ruler which are divided into units called Sun at 30.3mm

It's a Taiwanese company doing the testing and they use Chi which is the same as Shaku
