Microsoft Ending Xbox 360 Production

Broken Joystick

At least you can talk. Who are you?
http://news.xbox.com/2016/04/20/xbox-360-celebrating-10-years/
Last November, we celebrated a major milestone, as the Xbox 360 console turned 10 years old.

The Xbox 360 helped redefine an entire generation of gaming at Microsoft. I am incredibly proud of all of the work and dedication that went into development of the Xbox 360 hardware, services and games portfolio over the last decade. And I’m grateful to the fans for their continued passion and support.

Franchises like Gears of War were born on the 360, and established blockbusters like Halo really came into their own during this console generation. Xbox 360 was also the foundation for industry-leading technical innovation like Kinect, and the start of system updates and dashboard refreshes based on fan feedback.

Thanks to the Xbox 360, we evolved Xbox Live from the original Xbox into the thriving online gaming community it is today. And the console became a beloved gaming and entertainment hub with over 78 billion gaming hours played, nearly 486 billion Gamerscore on 27 billion achievements and over 25 billion hours spent in apps over its lifetime.

From the original Zero Hour launch event, to the incredible reaction received last year at E3 when we announced that you could play your Xbox 360 games on Xbox One, the soul of Xbox 360 was about putting gamers at the center of every decision we make – and we apply this principle across our business to this day.

Xbox 360 means a lot to everyone in Microsoft. And while we’ve had an amazing run, the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us. Which is why we have made the decision to stop manufacturing new Xbox 360 consoles. We will continue to sell existing inventory of Xbox 360 consoles, with availability varying by country.

We know that many of you became gamers on Xbox 360 and are still active, so it’s important to us that while the overall Xbox gaming experience will evolve and grow, we will continue to support the platform you love in multiple ways:

Xbox 360 owners will continue to receive Xbox Live services for their console, such as online multiplayer gaming and parties, access to the apps they use today, and Games with Gold and Deals with Gold.

Xbox Live servers that support Xbox 360 services will also remain online and active. Our Xbox 360 fans can continue to play their favorite games with the full support of Xbox Live.

Gamers will also be able to continue to buy over 4,000 Xbox 360 games or Xbox 360 accessories at retail and through our Xbox 360 store online, while supplies last.
Any Xbox 360 hardware will still be supported at xbox.com/support.

And Xbox One owners will be able to continue to enjoy available Xbox 360 games through Xbox One Backward Compatibility – at no additional cost.

I want to personally thank the Xbox community – that includes the vast and diverse audience of gamers, developers and publishers who brought so much passion and creativity to the Xbox 360. You are the heart of what we do at TEAM XBOX, and you have been critical to the success of Xbox 360.

Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll be sharing more of our plans for gaming on Xbox One, Windows 10 and beyond. And as always, keep the feedback coming.

Thank you.

Before the price cut to $99? Crazy. I guess they couldn't get component pricing down to a point where the numbers worked?

Thank you Xbox 360 for being one of the best consoles of all time.

Fun fact: The local newspaper took a photo of me and a friend on Xbox 360 launch day. They put us in the next days paper :)

End of an era. I think this is a bit abrupt though.

I totally expected Wii U to end production first based on that rumor, which would have been funny and sad at the same time.

Thank god for backwards compat, I have at least 3 games to finish from that gen. Was a great run bumps and bruises and all.

Many good memories! It's basically my capcom fighting machine console.

Goodbye my friend you earned the right to rest.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Even though by the end, it wasn't recognizable from what i first was attracted to, i still have amazing and great memories with my various 360s over many years, and that's what counts. Godspeed

I still seriously cannot believe neither the 360 or PS3 ever hit $99. I guess they really honestly couldn't get the component costs down that low?

We've got two 360s in the house (one's a slim, one is an older but post RRoD era one) so I feel okay with the backup there, but we only have one PS3 and it's a near launch one. Was hoping these consoles would drop to $99 so I could pick one up as a backup but guess that's not gonna happen :/

This type of stuff doesn't work anymore.

Gamecube was heavily discounted and it never recovered. People want the new hotness. Not to mention there's much more competition with Minecraft, a platform in and of itself, tablets and phones.

Never owned one, as I was on Team PS3, but damn... that thing had one hell of a run.

RIP

Probably should get a used one to replay some good stuff.

God save the Xbox 360.

Just keep the servers up, please.

Xbox 360 owners will continue to receive Xbox Live services for their console, such as online multiplayer gaming and parties, access to the apps they use today, and Games with Gold and Deals with Gold.

Fortunately, we have a product for people who aren't able to get a Xbox 360 anymore, it's called Xbox One.

One of the best consoles out there. Live, Arcades, Summer of Arcades, Controllers, Battlefield Bad Company 2

The list goes on and on why this console was amazing.

I had great times with the 360.

I got mine on launch day with Cod2, PGR3 and soon after I picked up Kameo and Perfect Dark. I remember how the graphics just blew me away - I didn't have access to anything other than PS2 and GameCube back then so HD graphics were crazy yo.

I remember getting games like Gears of War Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and thinking no game could look better than this, especially with the latter of those two.

One of my favorite consoles of all time. The Orange Box, L4D, Gears trilogy, Mass Effect, SFIV, Shadow Complex, Fallout 3, Bioshock, ok nvm. I'm not going to bother making a list. The point is I've played a lot of great games on the 360 and I've made a few online gaming buddies I still play with til this day. Have good memories.

The Xbox 360 was one of my all time favorite systems. It introduced me to online play, a digital storefront, and a ton of things. Man I'll never forget all night sessions with friends on games like Halo 3, Gears, Modern Warfare 2, etc.

That system will always have a special place in my heart.
