Gears of War 4 Beta |OT| Hello Chainsaw My Old Friend, I've Come To Rev You Up Again

Should a game still be in pre alpha 5 months to release? Halo 5's beta seemed farther along than this.
"prealpha" and "it will get better" are coping mechanics to delay the depressive reality of this shit

Only 6 months out they are not gonna completely overhaul all these horrible design choices. and if these are the best maps they chose to showcase, my word.

Alpha 5 or 6 months from launch is pretty damn normal. Lots of games miss those dates, too. A real development Beta build is typically relatively close to final in AAA game development. Like, down to the wire bug fixing time. Some games hit this point a week before they go gold, or less. Not ideal, though.

Alpha doesn't mean art is done or the design is locked, it means every feature is functional and the whole game is playable. Tuning of online features could continue after launch with minimal effort if things are set up well.

I made some screens of the new "locusts"

I can't tell if this is a Wall Guy reference or not.

Most fun I've had with a gears game. Dropshot is great, gnasher is feeling good, audio obviously needs to be worked on though. Maps are decent but some more interactivity with the maps would be good.

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment

Not to mention that the build we're playing is likely not the most up to date build. People seriously need to take a wait and see approach before jumping on the game for unfinished visual design or sound (sound in particular was noted by TC to be essentially a very work-in-progress).

Just a heads up the Gears of War UE pro league Season 2 finals live from PAX are going to start in 10 minutes!

Also The Gears of War 4 worldwide exclusive new competitive game mode reveal for "Escalation" is coming up. It will be announced on stream and played in a pro showmatch coming up.

I am terrible at this game but I love it. Feels a lot better than UE. Shotgun needs a bit of tweaking I think and players shouldn't be able to 'wallhug' from some of the distances that I have seen. All in all though, I am really looking forward to the release.

I tried watching the stream but high level play is everything I hate about Gears. Characters are jerking and sliding around like its glitched and all I can think is "who wants to play that?"

I fuckin LOVE Gears, but I'm definitely in the camp that doesn't appreciate wall-bounce/slide-cancels.

Agreed. It looks ridiculous.

I tried the Classic-Alt controls, but did terrible with it (tried it with Gears UE a while back as well). The Default controls are so ingrained in my brain that it is difficult to switch (don't know how I made the jump to Bumper Jumper with Halo 4).

yea, I feel if they put the run with the cover, instead of the run with the roll, i'd be easy money.

sounds like a game where the weapons blow at first and then get stronger as the clock ticks...just tell us what the hell it is rod!!

They said they we using abit newer build wich had that new game mode.

Domination. But get a 3 cap is instant win. If you lose a round you can place power weapons where you want.

So it's like a combination of like annex/koh and domination? It's kinda cool I suppose.

Edit: Maybe that's why it looks better *shrug"

so what is escalation? i missed the explanation part

Ring based game to 210. Whoever loses the round gets to pick where to put a power weapon. Every round the respawn timer is upped by 2 seconds. A 3 cap ends the round immediately. They said something about a half time but I'm not sure after which round that happens tho. Basically it begins at the settings for round 1 (10 second respawn, no power weapons) and the rings are moved.
