IIRC everything past Miitomo this year is supposed to be a game. Miitomo was the first thing they could get out in a short time period.

Gotcha. not trying to be dense with the following question, just not that well-versed, but who is they? DeNA or Nintendo?

Who makes these things anyways?

I am a Nintendo pessimist after working with them for years, but I actually think Fire Emblem might be the actual game. Their multi-SKU and expansion strategy recently with the franchise has been uncharacteristically complex for a console game, but would fit well IAPs on mobile.

Nintendo is developing the games and DeNA is providing the server/database backend, telemetry collection, and related service support for the titles.

If I'm remembering the mobile announcement correctly (And someone feel free to correct if I'm not), these are all internal nintendo development teams with business support and consulting provided by DeNA.

I could definitely see a Fire Emblem Gacha game being a thing. I can see me being soul sucked into such a thing too.

Gotta get that 5 Star/Ultra Rare Levin Card with a fully upgraded Forseti tome.

I want a full fledge Animal Crossing but it's most likely a mini game collection or something.

I'm imagining a mix of Miitomo and Happy Home Designer with a bit of the traditional collecting aspect of AC mixed in, but in a simplified way. I'm thinking an AC game somewhere between HHD and a full AC release.

From Nintendo's press release:
Nintendo’s Next Mobile Apps: Building on the positive consumer reaction to Miitomo, Nintendo announced that its next two mobile apps would be based on the familiar and beloved Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises. Nintendo plans to release both of these applications this autumn. As for the former app, while making it more accessible in comparison to the Fire Emblem games for Nintendo’s dedicated gaming systems, Nintendo aims to offer the great value of a role-playing strategy game. Nintendo will design the latter game so that it will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems. By playing both Animal Crossing games, users will find increased enjoyment. Both of these are pure game applications. Compared to Miitomo, they have more prominent game elements, and the game content will tie closely into Nintendo’s dedicated games business. Nintendo will provide more details about these applications closer to their launch period, and aims to have multiple types of apps that appeal to different audiences and different groups of players.
NX: Nintendo previously announced that it would release more information about its next system, code-named NX, this year. As the first announcement of any NX information, Nintendo confirmed that NX is scheduled to launch in March 2017. NX will not make an appearance at the upcoming E3 video game trade show in Los Angeles in June and will be unveiled later this year.

Does this also stealth-confirm a new Animal Crossing game for 3DS or WiiU (or NX)?

AC makes absolute perfect sense. Make it a deeper and AC themed miitomo and watch it print money.

I'm interested to hear what the FE game will actually be. Would not be shocked it all if it was just a straight up digital version of their cipher card game, as opposed to the mobile strategy gatcha people are expecting.

If they're interested in making money, they'll do a gacha with FE characters and not some tired card game. It isn't even like that genre is mired in toxicity or something. Terra Battle, Granblue, Love Live; People play these games entirely for free while they still make millions off the players that do spend money because they want to rather than being pressured to.

And there's already crossover with FEs audience. Couldn't be more ideal for Nintendo, really.

Two franchises I am happy for.

I'd really love an Animal Crossing on mobile even more than FE too. Could finally play at work.

I mean, Cipher's appeal as a card game is that all the cards you play are familiar FE characters, and pulling random packs is basically gacha.

Though yeah, it's very unlikely to be digital Cipher.

Done right, these games alone will be more profitable than the entirety of the Wii U and 3DS combined software output. Nintendo has been dipping its toes in F2P for years now, they have a blind loyalty that will guarantee some initial success and healthy whales, its time to go balls deep on mobile. Don't hold back Nintendo, make mobile your bitch.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Duno if it's relevant for your thread Niro:

Nintendo has said it plans to release five smartphone games by March 2017.The first of those five, a smartphone app called Miitomo, was released last month. With the announcement of the new games featuring Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem, Nintendo is dipping further into its stable of characters developed over decades as a maker of console games.

I could see a complementary Zelda app or game to coincide with the launch of the game in March being the 4th one.

Well, if Miitomo is under performing and they need titles that'll definitely have a good sized audience who'll happily pay for extras in them, they've chosen the two right franchises to go with.

Underperfoming ?

The only two franchises that are big with Nintendo that I don't like for one bit. Well, this morning has been pure hell. So basically Nintendo is going on hiatus until the end of the year (NX news) for me..

Animal Crossing is already a Big Series, which will only increase now.

Fire Emblem, in other hands, is not THAT big, even though Fates Sold very good and The Series is increasing... Gonna be interesting to Watch.

I wonder if whatever we do get will have Supports...

What did you see that made you a pessimist? Was that in Japan?

i wonder if they would use it as a platform to release old fire emblem games on over time as new chapters/stories.

AC will be F2P crap where you spend real money to get Bells.

Don't fuck this up, AC is one of my favourite franchises. :/

Can't find the quote but I saw something that the revenue hasn't been what they hoped? 10 million is definitely a good start as a userbase, but those users need to stick around and spend money to make it worth it.

Nintendo's financial reports today are saying that Miitomo is making "close to Internet speculation". Last speculation I saw was $280,000 a week.

I would wager that Animal Crossing will focus on your house and will be a bit like Happy Home Designer, but for you instead of other villagers.

Monetization wise, I expect it to look a lot like miitomo. Gatchas for special outfits and furniture as well as a shop that lets you buy other stuff outright. Log-in bonuses and mini-games to earn money. It basically writes itself. Major difference is that AC should have a much more compelling reason for players to come back than Miitomo.

Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are great choices for mobile games. Animal Crossing is so big in Japan, and with Japan being a big market for mobile gaming, all they need is a good monetization scheme and it will be feeding easy money to Nintendo's pockets. Same with Fire Emblem, to a lesser degree.

Good choices, but fall is late. Having Animal Crossing in June/July and Fire Emblem for fall would've been so good. AC is such a summer game IMO.

Also, glad I recently bought a New 3DS with New Leaf. Looks like there is a possibility they may be able to communicate with each other in some way (hopefully not just with Happy Home Designer).

With Animal Crossing, I think the business plan should be pretty straightforward. It already has a great social gaming framework, and with endless items to decorate your house with and to customize your avatar, it should be easy to build all those hooks in for F2P gaming.

For Fire Emblem the big question will be.... gacha waifus or gacha weapons? Lol.

It's totally Gacha characters. Weapons don't have the same 'gotta keep pulling' cache. The FE characters are the money draw.

That doesn't mean there won't be a weapons gacha as well like Terra Battle does.
