Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition |OT| Mourning Wood

I've got an i7-4710MQ @ 2.50GHz with 8GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 870M, which seems more than enough compared to the recommended system requirements.

I'm getting 20FPS max at 1080p. Dropping the resolution to 720 gives me about 34 FPS.

What's going on? D:

Did you make sure that the game is using your dedicated GPU instead of integrated?

This definitely shouldn't happen... I just played through it on a Surface Pro 4 with a very smooth framerate. Do the typical stuff, update your GPU drivers, etc. and if you still have issues, mail us at feedback @ moongamestudios.com. Your PC should be way strong enough to play at smooth 60 all the way through :)

I'll troubleshoot and report back/mail feedback after class. Thanks!

Yeah, that was my first suspicion but it wasn't the problem. :/
Updating drivers right now.

Thomas can you comment on the absence of Chinese language support of DE on both Xbox and PC? It was in the original and quite awesome, I take it as a MS decision? What I heard is that it is reserved for a Chinese local release.

Sort of. Releasing a game on the chinese market means that you need to send it to the Chinese Government for approvals and that always takes forever (remember that the original Ori release was also delayed for China for the exact same reason)... So we're still talking to MS about adding Chinese support.

I can't really say anything definitive about that yet, but we're definitely hearing all the Chinese fans that are a little soured. I love that we had so many languages in the original game, so we're definitely trying to get that back in :)

Glad to know that, hope it gets sorted asap, both adding it back to the global version and the chinese release :)

Hi Thomas,

Firstly congratulations on such a wonderful game. My favourite of this gen so far!

I'm having an issue with resolution at the moment. I have DSR enabled on my Nvidia panel so I can see the 4k resolutions present, but for some reason I am unable to select a resolution any higher than 1920x1080p for downsampling? I'm happy playing it at 1080p but I just wanted to see if I could play it downsampled at all. Is this a bug? The selection for higher resolutions is there, and when I highlight the resolution and press A on the controller, it just doesn't do anything?

Not a huge issue for me but thought I'd point it out either way :)

Did you downsample the original release? I wonder if that actually gives you better IQ, since we obviously do some internal downsampling already. I'm not the tech head at Moon, so if you have issues, please send us a mail to our feedback address and our programmers will try to help ya out :)

So the original version of the game is removed from the store, and is now included with the remaster instead.

So much for being "impossible" to implement this as a separate executable, huh.

thomasmahler: I want to upgrade but when I choose that my purchase will be for myself I get this message:

"According to our records, you already own one or more of the items included in your cart.

If purchasing for yourself, you will not receive an extra copy of:
Ori and the Blind Forest
Would you still like to continue with your purchase?"

Should I still press yes? Is the message wrong? I got the original game installed if that matters..

Yeah, ignore it. If you buy the DE, you also get the original Ori for free, since you already have it, that doesn't apply.

What does one thing have to do with the other? We thought people would be angry if we'd replace the original Ori from the store, so we just give it away for free to people who buy the DE...

I have the original version but I'd like the DE to run through it again and 100% it. Is the $5 upgrade price valid forever or does it expire someday?

Decided to buy the game after all. I would have bought it sooner but I had heard about the DE so I decided to wait. It was worth it.

I felt the same when I played Dust: an Elysian Tail. Art is so good and soothing that I do not mind even the frustrating moments and exploration.

Updating drivers right now.

I'll install the game on my laptop as well. Currently playing it on the desktop. It is an older model with an i5 2540m and an Nvidia GT555M.

When I tried the original game on the laptop it ran fine at 1280x720 but GPU usage seemed very high and fan was more noisy than usual. Hence I hesitated to play the game for too long. Hope this runs better. I'll disable Vsync too since screen tearing is not so obvious due to the dark settings.

Problem solved! I updated drivers, which didn't do anything. Uninstalled, reinstalled, made sure it was using my dedicated GPU, and now it runs at a buttery smooth 60fps no problem. :D

Thanks for your help guys. Really looking forward to playing this game.

Yup. We saw a lot of people wanting 21:9 support (and hated that people used a crazy hack to get that...), so we went through the hell of updating every level in the game (and every cinematic) to support 21:9... Don't say we don't love you!

Ori and the Blind Forest DE looks marvelous on these super nice 21:9 monitors now! :)

Welp you just sold me Ori.. Again.

I've got the same problem. I downsampled the original release, but although I can see higher resolutions in the list it does nothing when I select them. I'll send an email, thanks Thomas.

It's so nice to play this again, it's glorious. I played the soundtrack a lot during the summer whilst training for a marathon; as it's perfect for those long summer trail runs. So it's so nice to play again. Just an incredible game.

I never downsampled the original one. I was curious more than anything to see if the IQ looked better or not. Even though it looks great as it is. No bother! :)

Yeah, it's not bothering me in the slightest they've done a good job with the anti-aliasing and image quality is superb. I'll send the email just to report the issue but I'm fine to play in 1920x1080 :)

Runs alright for me even with the latest buggy NVIDIA drivers. I've been getting weird hitches that come in twos across just about everything I play lately.

Not an issue with Ori, but it's killer in a game this reflex-heavy.

Playing through it a second time really makes some of the design decisions shine, I'm having an even better time with it this go around on the hard difficulty.

I just wish the game's assets scaled past 1440p in a meaningful way. It hasn't really been stated anywhere but I noticed the original Ori in 3840x2160 had some pixelated UI elements while the backgrounds didn't gain any real detail over 1440p. In this version, the UI seems cleaner but when comparing 1440p and 2160p screens in Photoshop, there isn't any real bump in quality. I wasn't expecting to see that part improve with the DE because the art assets are probably identical to the base game. Oh well, game looks PLENTY good in 1440p :]

When I suggested this method (although reversed; i.e. having the Definitive Edition as a separate .exe in addition to the original game), you said it was impossible.

I'm sure Microsoft wanted this as a separate product for marketing purposes, I just don't appreciate the concept of abandoning 1 year old games in favor of a needless remaster, when it basically can be implemented as DLC.

It can't. We completely changed the original levels, a lot of systems, the map, etc. - If we would've just tacked on some separate levels, then yes, we could have done that, but I don't think that would've been exciting enough. The idea with the Ori DE was to create a version of the game that has all the DLC included and is just the perfect version to play for the next - hopefully - decades :)

Weird, I'm getting a poor framerate on a Titan X. Fraps reads a steady 23. This same computer was getting a far better framerate with a worse videocard back when the original was released.

I'm on Windows 10 with a 1440p G-Sync monitor. The monitor goes up to 144hz but it's running at 120hz. If I disable G-Sync through the Nvidia control panel, the framerate is fine.

I guess the game doesn't support G-Sync somehow?

edit: I just reinstalled the original release. It runs even worse with G-Sync. Not only is the framerate low, everything is in slow motion! I guess it's allergic to G-Sync as well.

edit edit: Everything fixed itself after a reboot. <3 PC GAMING <3

I feel like I'm missing something here.

I'm noticing barely anything new. I'm already starting Mt. Horu and have yet to run into a single new area or get a new ability. I don't even think I've heard any new music. The only thing I've noticed is the ability to backtrack. I've seen a few new passages, but nothing that leads to anything significant. I was under the impression there was a large degree of new content, but I'm playing it through as I normally would and I am barely noticing any additions whatsoever.

Are they secret? Do they come after Mt. Horu at the end game? I've not yet found the dash attack (what I'm assuming is a tree) as I've got this power in the skill tree but hitting the trigger does nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Have you used the teleport function at all? Teleport to the first Spirit Well in Sunken Glades and et voila... :)

Bought it, the discount is really good, guess I'll play through it again.

Hard seems pretty hard at the beginning in a "die in 2 hits" kind of way, maybe it'll be more manageable once I get more health, I have trouble seeing/avoiding things in the environments if they move too fast.

I have the original version but I'd like the DE to run through it again and 100% it. Is the $5 upgrade price valid forever or does it expire someday?

they said the upgrade will be valid forever, but there's an issue with the store page showing a timer that they are trying to fix:

Sofie [developer] 23 hours ago
It will last forever! There might be an issue with the store page, do not worry. We'll fix it as soon as possible.

Oh waw, buying the game right now just because of this. Gonna enjoy this on my 21:9 3440x1440 right now.

Not actually that important
Wow this looks even more awesome than I expected so now I'm even more bummed I won't be taking a seat at the table lol... was planning on getting it day1 on One (hehe) but I can't afford it anymore thanks to a fuckin' street pirate totaling my car (and my insurance won't cover it), so I hope to be able to support these guys on late May when I'll hopefully have a bit more room for vg expenses after getting paid... enjoy the ride guys, kinda envious here hehe :)

I wonder how many from Moon Studios weren't part of this project and if we can expect something at E3 from them.

Edit: oh snap possible retail boxed release??? That is baaaaad for me, now I'll feel obliged to wait for that, this is the kind of game I want on my shelves... damn

I've had Ori in my Steam library for a year or so, but at first it was in the backlog and then put on hold when the DE was announced. So I bought DE yesterday and played Ori for the first time.

The beginning was beautiful, but as I actually began to play I've found the visuals really detract from my enjoyment of the game. It's extremely difficult for me to see what's going on, due to the "organic" color scheme, the bright particle effects, the blending of layers, and the the zoomed out camera. For example, playing through the first area with the blue Portal-esque teleporters in sequence, I couldn't even tell where my character appeared after teleporting. It's also hard to gauge the range of attacks, including Ori's, so I wind up just jumping around and spamming 'X'. I feel like I have to put down checkpoints after every section to make up for traps/damage that catches me flat-footed.

I truly wish that platforming/"Metroidvania" indie games would present readable, clean graphics, a la classic Mario or modern Guacamelee. Instead everyone's going overboard with shit filters, fancy lighting, and particle effects.

(Turning off motion blur doesn't help, BTW.)

Thomas, in the Definitive Edition, in Settings, it will not let me switch resolution to anything higher than 720...

I am using a Razer Blade, in the original version i could play at 1080 easily.. i reinstalled but still have the same issue.

That's strange. I'm also using the latest RazerBlade and I can set the resolution to whatever I want... Send a mail to our feedback email, I'm guessing it's just a driver thing or something similar. #PCGaming...

Ah, Sofie seems to know how to fix it:

"Try disabling the display scaling on high DPI setting through the compatibility properties on the game's .exe :)
Hope that helps!"

Sorry to hear about your car mate...but I hear you re the physical edition - Ori is the only game in 30 years of playing games that has ever made me cry - the prologue type bit - and is one of my favourite games ever.

I need it on my shelf!!

Silly suggestion but did you try backing out and reentering the menu then selecting resolution? I couldn't use 2560x1440 at first glance either and the resolution appeared after reentering the options menu. Kinda weird. Perhaps it's possible to change the resolution in a config file manually and set it read-only?

Anyway, I held off from playing the original game since I got it around the time the DE was announced and I'm pretty stunned after I started playing it yesterday. Prologue gave me some feels (even though I think it was a tad too long) and the 30mins I could actually play before heading to bed were super fun! Can't wait to put more time into it, what a compelling mixture of great music, art and gameplay so far :)
