But yes, Sony certainly has been lacking a mascot character as iconic as Crash.
Jak & Daxter egg was in the previous Uncharted games. Didn't mean anything.
This is just an image of Crash Bandicoot 1, which as far as I know, Sony has the full rights to. They sell it on PSN.

The IP is owned by Activision, Sony can't just throw Crash out there without their approval. He would've been in playstation all stars if they could.

Sony has distribution rights to the 5 PS1 games, so the boxart seems fine.

Being in PSABR (requiring new models and assets) is way different than just using a picture of the original PS1 game which Sony still has the full rights to. They can do anything they want with the original games, they just can't make new stuff.

Exactly what came to mind.
I got MGSV a few days before launch and I was able to take pics + video and save them on the PS4's hard drive but I wasn't able to upload them until launch day. Maybe I could have imported them to a USB stick to get around that but I never thought about it until afterwards.

Naughty Dog always owned the source code for the PS1 crash games while the IP was Universal (now the IP is in activison's hands).
So for example Activison would not be allowed to port the PS1 games to another platform without getting the all clear from ND / Sony.
Likewise Sony cant do anything with those games without asking Activsion since they own the brand.
I guess a simalar situation might be Demons Souls. FROM owns the code but Sony owned the IP. So FROM took that code and made Dark Souls which was super similar but legally a different IP.

That's pretty damn cool, but I hope ND isn't working on it. I really like most of their output, but I was never a big fan of Crash so I'd rather see another studio handle it.

They were working on a Jak and Daxter game before it got cancelled and turned into The Last of Us. Though I doubt the precursor orbs were actually hinting at it.
