Crash Bandicoot 20th Anniversary Retrospective - The Original Naughty Dog

you know I never asked, whatever happened to the female character from the first game that was supposed to be his girlfriend or something? I mean they eventually replaced her with his sister so I was curious if there was a reason to it.
As a kid I just thought it was a thing that happened, like with Candy Kong.

I loved all 5 of the PS1 Crash games. Amazing how they hit the right notes with all of them, even if Bash wasn't developed by ND.

Wow, that seems like a dated thing, even back then. o.o

Password codes is a really odd thing on the PS1. Yeah it was acceptable for the 8-bit and 16-bit generation of consoles, but for the 32bit machines it was pushing it. But eh... you have to give credit to Naughty Dog for thinking about all of those poor PS1 users that didn't have a memory card.

The Crash 1 Retrospective is up, with the link being in the OP.

Will be covering the rest of the PS1 series starting this Friday, so hope you look forward to it :D!

Clicked on the thread expecting a GT Interospective video, and to be soothed by the voice of Brandon Jones.

Am now sad and disappointed ;_;

I don't speak over my Retrospectives; just make threads on them here :l.

Sorry to disappoint you :(.

When I was about 7 years old, I had to decided between Frogger and Crash Bandicoot for PS1. I chose Frogger. The cashier woman put Crash in the bag instead. I'm still searching for that woman to this day to thank her.

Crash Team Racing

This is my childhood right there.
Crash 1 game was my first PS1 game and I still play it once a year. It's time that the Bandicoot returns home.

Hello everyone :).

Just wanted to let you know the game plan going forward for this Retrospective. This weekend I will be putting up the Crash 2 Retrospective as its complete and the Crash 3 & Crash Team Racing Retrospectives will be posted next week. College is over for me know more or less, so I have a lot of time on my hands now for Retrospectives.

But one thing I am personally really proud of; the Crash Retrospective got published! They will still release on NeoGaf but thanks to Press Start AU, the Retrospectives for Crash will be on the site. Really proud of this chance and I hope you consider giving the site some attention, as I really like the presentation of how the articles are set up and the articles the site covers are enjoyable to read.

The Retrospective will be rapid, with starting tonight, every two days getting a new Crash Retrospective.
Friday: Crash 2
Sunday: Crash 3
Tuseday: CTR
Thursday: Crash Wrath of Cortex
Saturday: Crash Twinsanity

Hope you look forward to the Retrospective going forward and lets have fun running through history with the Orange Bandicoot! People might not like the series a lot and recently, got the impression Crash is just as hated as Sonic (or in other words, more of a 'target' for people to pick on). That is also the reason I decided to make this less frequently; people don't like Crash.

But like the series and I hope you enjoy my thoughts on each title :).

!!!!!! NICE DUDE!!! You totally deserve it, your stuff is great! Keep it up!

It's been 20 years? Fuck me I'm old.
I remember getting the first game for my birthday as a kid.

The first game was good but had some funny controls, 2 perfected the controls but I like the more bouncy colorful and comical design of 3.
It also had an excellent hub world, amazing range of levels, great music, great cutscenes.

.....I just realized the Crash 1 came out when I was 2 years old XD!

Man, time sure does fly, huh :).

I love Crash 3 for a lot of reasons and will touch on that soon enough, but the designs of the worlds and the amazing music elevated the game for me.

The Crash pieces are getting published by Press Start AU and the first three games have articles up; Remembering Crash Bandicoot, Remembering Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Remembering Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. The ones for CTR, Bash and even the first three Spyro games will release on the site next month!

But the Retrospectives also found another home outside of NeoGaf and Press Start AU; Crashy News! This great news site covers everything Crash Bandicoot, so it was fitting for my Retrospectives on Crash to land on there :D.

They will pop up on the site daily and the Retrospectives are heavily revised, more so the Crash Team Racing and Crash Bash ones. So, give them a read if you have the time :D.

Is the anniversary the reason for the Crash demand recently? I haven't put much time into any of the games so I have no feelings either way. I'm just wondering why there is suddenly such a huge movement for a new game. It definitely wasn't like this last generation, so what was the spark?

It all started with PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal. Rumours said Crash would be in it. Turns out Crash wasnt in it. People got reminded Crash was cool. People started talking about it again for the first time in a few yaers.

Then some tin foil hat people around the launch of the PS4 decided "maybe sony is buying the Crash IP" was a thing and have been banging that drum for 3 years.

Also Sony has been leaning on some PS1 nostalgia over the last few years with stuff like FF7, some early PS4 marketing and the whole 20th anniversary of PlayStation thing a year or so ago so PS1 nostalgia has been hot for a while and winks and nods to Crash has been a part of that as well as a bunch of others but people are latching on the Crash because of earlier points.

Now it seems maybe something might be happening with the IP for the first time in years and everyone is jumping to conclusions.

They were still making Crash games last generation.

Good explanation, thanks.

Hype? Crash isn't going to be at E3.

Will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong but I'm expecting the IP to have some spotlight during the event. Even if its just the announcement of PS1 Classics or Crash's PS2 adventures landing on PS4.

Edit: Since the idea of a Crash revival or new Crash game happening is so toxic, removed that part of the post. Sorry everyone.

You really do remove things for no reason a lot don't you...

Fixed :)

Oh wait.. That's right he was already back:

OH BURRRNNNN :)

If Crash comes back it'll likely be at Activisions own conference.

Do they have a conference this year? Because I thought they are just showing their games at Sony/MS's pressers. Bubsy 3D Unity game.....man, THAT was an experience man XD! That is game needing to be talked about at some point :').

But I can see one of their studios making a Crash game; Vicarious Visions and Toys For Bob are good fits for a studio making a Crash game I feel.

Toys for Bob would make Crash into Skylanders.

Vicarious Visions has been on Skylanders the last near 5 years. ALso they don't really have many 3D games in their portfolio. The last big thing they did with a budget was from the look so fit helping port Doom 3 to the original Xbox.

Look at through the games made or assisted by the other companies not closed down by Activision it seems High Moon and Beenox are the only actual options unless they license out to a 3rd party. Which they usually don't do outside some extra help for a project they made.

Hello Everyone

The Crash Retrospective has been moved to a new location and will run on NeoGaf much later then before. Many on NeoGaf hate the series and I feel dumb even starting the Retrospective on this site. I would honestly not bother making this update post but many of you who stuck around since the Sonic Retrospective like reading them on Gaf and I am very grateful for that support.

So, will continue to put them on the site, but it will be far less frequent then before. You can find the Crash Nitro Kart Retrospective here and will be releasing the Twinsanity Retrospective this weekend. Have a good day.
