Quantum Break |OT| We'll Be Right Back After This Commercial Break

According to the trueachievements app, it's the
"find a chronon harness for Beth"
one, but it still appears as "secret achievement" on my console. I obviously fullfilled the requirement, since it's plot-related, and I actually completed 100% of the game anyway so I have all other achievements but that one.
I played Act 3 part 1 four or five times already, even restarted a game from scratch , but it didn't make any difference.

The achievement just randomly (or maybe not so randomly) popped up this morning, yay ! ^^

I just beat Act Three. The game is really fun and I'm enjoying the tv episodes despite how pointless they are. It's nice to kick back for a bit and watch some good tv. I wish there was a whole season to watch.

And man is this game easy as hell even playing on Hard mode, with a controller, with aim assist turned off. They probably should have gave all the mook enemies the same amount of health on their bodies as their heads because one or two bursts to the cranium and they go splat. And then for the heavies I just time bomb them, and then time stop and stack shotgun shells to the temple. And now I just got the carbine so it takes just two stacked headshots to kill them daaaaaammnn. And those snipers were a nuisance until I realized I could time kamehameha them from a long distance. I don't ever have to even use time shield.

Started 2nd playthough on PC now that patch is out. Looks great, will choose evil choices this time. Can't wait to see Driver stuff.

Also was there a "previously on Quantim Break" in the game before? Cause I don't remember and I got it after booting up chapter.

It has that only when you replay a chapter through the timeline, unfortunately the normal course of action doesn't XD

I'm loving the game in spite of it.

I feel like most of the levels are just walking around, with the occasional action setpiece. It's a little disappointing because I feel like it took me until Act 3 to get comfortable with the mechanics. There's just not enough to do throughout the game to take advantage of the abilities.

The graphics, however, are amazing. I haven't seen The Order but I would say these are the most impressive I've seen this generation. They nailed the likenesses of all the main characters, except Dominic Monaghan who still looks like a video game model. The lip sync is really impressive. And some of the transition scenes really could be mistaken for the live action shots.

Is it me or do big pieces of the story just get kinda skipped over? I mean some parts where scenes should have been which weren't even handled in the live action episodes. I feel like there should have been a few more scenes per act but their budget got cut or they ran out of time and got rid of them.

And about the live action episodes, I kinda liked them. People are pretty hard on them, and they are a bit low budget, but they wouldn't be so out of place on a cable network like Syfy or USA. I found myself really looking forward to the next episode, especially since there's such a lack of anything to do in the game itself.

But in terms of world building, Remedy is second to none. And their mixed media experiment here I feel was a success. I wish they would have some DLC levels or something like they did with Alan Wake to fill in the story a bit more.

Now on to the finish!

Finally finished it. I'm super disappointed. The game felt incredibly repetitive and the writing just absolutely fell flat. Live action felt like a budget direct-to-video release. I enjoyed the presentation but that was it, really.

Quantum Break just makes me want to replay Alan Wake.

Wow what a humongous difficulty spike. This final boss and its the floor is lava theme is really pissing me off. It's been an hour now and I still haven't beat this dude. What the heck did they make the explosion the same damn color as your hurt indicator? And then they leave a large red aura on the ground everywhere randomly so I can't tell if I'm about to be hit with a blast or if it's just a graphical effect.

Whatever my score for this game ends up being, I am deducting two points for this bullshit boss fight where I randomly get blown to pieces because they decided to have someone launch bombs at me with pillars and a whole bunch of other junk to accidentality time dash into, stupid chrono enemies I can't use my time powers on (is my game glitched or something because that hasn't worked the whole game?), and a stupid heavy with a timepower-deactivating field roaming around the map. I'm going to sleep.

Yes the red aura is confusing, at times I didn't know if I was running away from danger or towards it. I think the best way to handle the bombs is to take the time to locate the core (dark red sphere), you should have enough time to look around and then run away if you don't panic.

stupid chrono enemies I can't use my time powers on (is my game glitched or something because that hasn't worked the whole game?).

It's not a glitch, their suit makes them immune to time freezing. But they're rather fragile, just dash/rush to them and shoot them point blank. I actually like fighting them since they always end up in cool frozen positions. ^^

Haven't played the game yet.

But I have to ask, are there actually commercial breaks during the game or its live action episodes? Just asking due to the OT title...

Nah there aren't. :p
There's a lot of product placement though, but it's not really annoying nor out of place. Surfaces and Winphones everywhere, Nissan logos on buildings...

Small scenes will be added in the show to stuff you interact with, walk up and press X, but the big choices are the ones that matter.

Sorry, I explained that badly apparently. Do earlier "big choices" before the junctions have an impact on later junction points scenes?

I didn't collect all skillpoints 2 levels back. If I play the first 5 nun of this level, collect the 2 missing points and then jump back to my actual Mission without completing the earlier mission, will I still have the 2 points? Or will my time line be broken and kill my Xbox?

Got 1000/1000 today after my second playthrough. Loved the game. A solid 8/10. Just wish the action was a little more heavy. That last boss fight ugh.

Actually just finished this on my first try today and it was really easy. I thought I was clear of mind last night but being tired as hell was probably affecting me somehow (I didn't notice, I thought I was playing a like a beast).

I really want a sequel for this. It's crazy to me how I thought both this and Alan Wake were poo after beating their first levels but came to love both of them.

Okay finally finished the game. As painful as the last boss was, after a couple of nights I was able to learn the patterns and get through it relatively easy.

One thing I always love about Remedy games is how clever they are about teaching combat. I never realized how much better I'd become until I put the game down for a night and came back to it. It was like, wow, even after a night it took a couple of tries just to get my groove back. I remember feeling the same about Max Payne and Alan Wake.

And after the end boss, I'm not nearly as spiteful about it. The story, the graphics and the gameplay were all excellent. I just wish it had a little more meat to it, as it took a halfway through just to get going, and I felt it never really reached its potential. I hope for some DLC and I really hope we get a sequel.

Almost done with my 2nd play through and the last TV show was drastically different that my choices on my first play through. I am actually shocked on how much the final TV show changed based on what I experienced before. I also really dig all the little things that change in the actual game as well.

I had one area that I was listening through a window a cop talking with a citizen about Jack and how on first play through did not have that, but because of my choices this conversation I over heard happened. There are a ton of small things that change that many can miss if you don't stop to listen to NPC chatter. Just a fantastic game.

Uh, wow. I'm on the final boss right now and it's quite literally one of the worst things I've ever played.

It's not that hard, the problem is that his power is not explained. When you see the red haze starting (which is preceded by a sound and a little red ball on the ground), you just have to run like hell to the other side of the room.

Interview with Shawn; some bits about the mocap etc.; Sam Lake

Nice video, thanks.
I noticed bits of cutscenes I don't remember seeing in the game (like the dogs being time frozen).
Also I can't get over how well they captured Aiden Gillen in the game. Must be the side smirk when he talks, but he's the most realistic and life-breathing of all the virtual characters in the game.

The difficulty isn't an issue, the lack of any explanation or prior introduction of mechanics as well as the time grenades (which instakill you) make it frustrating. My first instinct was to run away from the red bomb, but I still managed to get killed which really confused me. Pair all that with the fact that you have to go through two loading screens to reinitiate the fight, it just seems poorly designed.

I only died a few times on hard, mostly because I was trying to be cocky and kill off one last guy and got sniped by the grenades. You have to play it more conservatively.

The game gives you a huge back area where enemies rarely venture, and an auto shotgun with plenty of ammo. It's straightforward. Sticking a loading screen *before* the cutscene is annoying, but really I feel like people are making mountains out of molehills here. In the list of bad or tedious bosses this isn't even close.

The level is tricky because as Ghazi said, the game doesn't do anything to explain beforehand what it introduces for this boss battle. Saying that, once you've seen it a couple of times, you can figure out the pattern.

First, there are three waves of enemies. The first is four Strikers - the enemies with time-blocking harnesses. The first one will warp up right up to you, which you can stop with a time shield and then blast point blank while he's suspended. Then you can run down the platform with a time rush to the other one standing straight ahead and kill with a melee attack. Two down, only two left. Just time dodge when you see the red around you, and as someone stated earlier, when you see red and are confused whether it's taking damage or something else, just do a quick rotate and look for the orange orb. Then dodge. There's an audible queue too - Jack will say "gotta run" or "no no no!". That's when you know to run. It doesn't help the level design has so many obstacles to stop from a clean dash, so you need to know where your open spaces are. Also, leveling up your time shield so that it heals helps quite a bit.

Then, Serene will unload a big blast, but it starts right where you are standing. So if you kill the last enemy by the entrance to the poolhouse, just run to the back of the room when he's blasting. It helps that there's a backpack in the back to stock up on ammo anyway. After the blast he becomes vulnerable, so you can take the first shot at him after the blast. Serene is sitting above the pool at this time, but if you wait too long you'll miss your chance and the next wave will begin. Also, the right side of the pool house has far less obstacles in your way than the left, so it's a straight run to the back of the room. Critical to escape the blast, and good to know for the end of the fight.

Then comes the second wave, which consists of four or so Monarch security guards armed with grenades and a big armored tank (not a Juggernaut) with a chaingun that makes things difficult. To make this an easier, fair fight, once you shoot Serene turn to face the entrance to the poolhouse. Having a good powerful automatic weapon here helps, like the semi-automatic rifle (don't remember the official name, but it has a capacity of 20 shells). You can do one-shot kills to Monarch security with this, so when the wave starts, you'll get a chance to take out two of the four before the tank comes out. That really helps because that's less the number of guards who will rain grenades on you, and one less thing to worry about when taking out the tank. Don't waste your time blast on the entrance - it wouldn't work for me. Once you take care of the security guards, you'll then have to deal with the next wave of enemies, another group of Strikers. Since they warp in close to you, just stay clear of the tank and take these out post haste. Then that leaves the tank and the blasts coming from Serene. I'd advise you use your time blast here on the tank - just fire the blast and follow up with a barrage of bullets - and stay far away from him. The left side of the poolhouse is optimal here because of all the obstacles which can be used for cover. Just keep using time vision to know where he is, and keep him on the left because he's slow and will also get caught up in the obstacles, restricting his movement and leaving him open for some direct hits.

Once you get him, Serene will start to send some blasts your way. They start back to front, and then reverse endlessly, leaving just a few seconds in between for a clear shot. Serene is vulnerable during this time, so wait for the blast, run towards the front, watch for the front blast, run to the back. Dispense some ammo in Serene's direction in the gaps. And don't get caught up avoiding the blasts - this is where again it's important to stay on the right side of the room, because there's little on the path to get in your way. It only takes a couple of shots to end Serene and the boss fight.

That should help you or anyone else getting stuck here. The painful thing is the loading times and the waves. The checkpoint starts with a cutscene, and skipping that causes a load screen, so it's die-load-skip-load-try again. Takes about 15 min per attempt, so doing this more than a few times is time consuming. The other thing about the waves is that, you can get through the first wave and get killed by Serene because you got caught up in the environment. Or get through the second wave but not know the blast pattern. It's a painful trial-and-error approach that causes much frustration.

But at the end, it was really satisfying to beat it and watch the end cutscenes and credits roll. I'll do another playthrough someday with some of the other choices to see how it plays out.

I went back and watched E3 trailers for the game, I never realized that they changed Joyce's character to Shawn Ashmore and that Clarice Ogawa used to be Beth's character. It's always interesting to see how things change over development.

Yeah. Would love a in-depth postmortem. Interesting that Amaral stayed constant with a similar setup (rescuing her, albeit against her will, from certain death) and that it seems like Future Paul controlling Monarch wouldn't have been given away in the first act in earlier drafts of the story.

So happy we got Ashmore's performance than whatever it was with the temp or original guy.

Now on to the finish!

This is pretty much exactly how I feel now that I'm wrapping up the game.

I'm enjoying the story and I love the gunplay/gameplay when I'm actually playing but the game itself and story segments
seem to be just walking around what always seems like the same 3 locations: Will's Lab-Library/University-Monarch HQ/facility.

I wouldn't mind this nearly as much if there were more gameplay sequences in between those locations and I'm up to the
Paul Serene fight in what I think is pretty much the end of the game
.

Like you said it seems like a lot of scenes or Parts in Acts which should've been gameplay sequences were reduced to walking around, taking in the gorgeous graphics with a character talking in the background or
Jack Joyce taking to the interviewer as you walk to Point B
.

The time abilities combined with the 3rd person shooting are ace, I just wish there was more of it. Leaves a lot to be desired that we will hopefully see in some form of DLC.

I thought the acting in this game was really good for the most part. I liked looking at Amy and Jack's faces and watching their subtle expressions that really blew me away. Beth, however, looked like she was paralyzed in the face the entire game. I was like damn girl move your eyebrows a bit or something!

OK - how the hell are people putting up with the God awful half a second of input lag on the Xbone version? It's the only game to ever give me motion sickness as a result. For anyone doubting that this exists - move the camera stick all the way to one side, then snap it back to the other. You will hear the 'click' of the stick hitting the outside of the ring a full half second (almost more) before the direction changes. It's appalling - even worse than the UC3 deadzone issues on launch. This is why people complained about the feel of the gameplay in reviews. Can't believe this made it through testing as it ruins an otherwise decent game.

Switched to PC and I can finally play it for more than 45 minute stretches.

^I played through the game 2 1/2 times and I didn't notice it. I rocked the shooting and didn't have any problems. I also didn't have any problems with Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One.

Finally picked this up. So excited to check out the gunplay

Is there a New Game Plus, or arcade mode like Max Payne 3? This looks like one of those games where I'll just want to enjoy the action once the campaign is finished

Unfortunately no. Luckily it's easy to go back to specific encounters via the timeline and replay them if you want.

Man, if I had to pick only one aspect of the visual presentation that really stands out, it would be the reflections. They look really fucking good in every single image and footage I've seen. I don't remember any looking as good this gen aside from Infamous: SS, and these look much better.

no new game plus but once youre finished you can always go back to other missions. dont select new game after youre finished though it will wipe your progress

one thing you should do is read the notes and emails it adds so much story and its actually really good writing in a lot of those. youll have a lot of unanswered questions afterwards if you just rush through lol

Edit: Hmm, NVM... Apparently is decided to download a 27GB update on its own at some point

Yep. Replaying BioShock Infinite on my Mac the other day with the settings all maxed, the part that struck me as feeling horribly out of place was the low-resolution water reflections, and the first thing I noticed when starting up this game was the quality and variety of surfaces. Makes things come alive.

Just started gathering time powers and man, this game is going to be awesome. This is one of those "replay a section until you clear it in the coolest way possible" kind of games

Edit; and I have no idea how some people saw the mechanics here and then played like a cover shooter. Literally the first powers you get 1) incentive evasive movement, 2) let you create bullet blocking barriers on the move and stop enemies to let you flank, and 3) create protection in the open and knock enemies back. You're way more powerful up close and while moving than behind cover

You would think not having a button to get into cover would have also made it clear, but nooope.
