Please tell me there's an alternate skin without the Halo-esque helmet for the main character. Thanks.

I have a buddy at work who is hoping this will be some kind of creepy atmospheric experience like Doom 3. I keep telling him it's closer to the original Doom games where it's all about gore, speed, and metal but he doesn't seem to get it. He's self proclaimed huge Doom fan, but hasn't played Doom 1 or 2 at all.

I was on the fence after the MP beta and some of the early footage, but I'm on board now. Can't wait!

The old games were very creepy and atmospheric for their times. Maybe not the same way as doom 3, but they certainly seem more so than what this game is going after. This game seems to closer to serious Sam in that regard

The broadcasts earlier were fun, if not frustrating just because the one player was terrible and got stuck in a specific early area where everything from hordes of Possessed, Cacodemons, Revenants, Imps and a couple of Pinky demons kept fucking him up. lol

I mean who uses a Mini-Gun as a semi auto to fire one shot at a time? lol

I guess there's a model viewer too for Doom guy and all the demons you encounter? I love stuff like that especially when a game looks as slick as this.

Why not send the reviewers their copies like a week in advance so they have time to play through the story mode well before the game comes out, then let them assess the multiplayer and SnapMap after launch?

With what they have decided to do, the reviewers have to play through the entire singleplayer campaign, play a bunch of multiplayer, and test out SnapMap before they can put their reviews out. It just seems like a ploy to have as much extra time as possible to sell the game to people without them being able to know how good/well-reviewed it is.

I feel like this is how Bethesda almost always handles review copies of their games. Or maybe I am just not remembering correctly...

I get both sides of this argument. On their end it makes sense to have their game be reviewed as a whole package. I'm getting kind of annoyed at all these reviews in progress and reviews for multiplayer games in a controlled environment that don't emulate the actual consumer experience. Essentially the single player is 1/3 of the game.

The good thing is we know that there are copies in the wild and we will be able to get impressions from players.

The game takes place in first-person, it's really gonna bother you that much?

So what about the PC version? REad the beta had bad performance?

Should I get this for PS4 isntead? System Requirements are not a problem for me.

It could be up yesterday but we wouldn't know because they aren't sending out review copies.

That's odd, I know IGN has been covering the game a lot. Even without review copies I'm sure the game will get good review scores especially with the robust Single Player.

There's been a enough coverage of the game and Bethesda has streamed a fair amount of it.

i find this funny because the minigun in the original game is basically a semi-auto sniper weapon. the first shot is always pixel-accurate so tap-firing from a distance is the best way to use it. :p

It all depends on your System Req's. From what I've seen, the beta ran great on PC, if you had the PC to run it and not trying to exceed the actual capabilities of your PC as opposed to people that have this notion that their 4 y/o GTX 660 should be running brand new games at max settings at 1080p.

Not true according to the previous page. Review copies are being sent out, they just won't arrive until Friday because id/Bethesda feel the game as a whole package needs to be reviewed, not just the single player component and servers won't be live for multiplayer and SnapMap until Friday.

How people feel about that or it's perceived is another story.

Oh really?! I never knew that. lol I'd just go nuts with it trying to mess as much as I could up before running out of ammo. =P lol

From the PS4 streams everything seems to look and run good. Load times seem to be tolerable but the only bug or glitch I see constantly is in the death animation of your Doom guy. Mostly when you drop down and there's supposed to be an animation of a demon ripping your arms or legs off...well you automatically explode into glibs and the demon still goes through the animation but is grabbing nothing. lol

I have a 980 ti... So yeah, no problem there. Just concerned it might not be as good as a port/version as I'd want

I guess it all depends on how you want to run it.

I have a 980ti as well and a 1440p144hz Gsync monitor and would love to max this out, but I doubt very much I will be able to and still get above 60-70fps. So i'll just lower some AA down a bit and call it a day. Which is fine, I am more than content with 60~fps. I imagine you won't run into many issues unless you are trying to run it at 4k. I don't expect to.

In what universe would a console outperform a 980ti?

I have a 970 and the beta ran fine. I expect the single player to be a little bit more demanding but not by much.

In a universe where the pc version is badly optimized, ala batman arkham Knight for example.

Let it go already. This horse has been beaten dead. I challenge you to name any port on PC that performed as badly as AK since AK was released that didn't perform poorly across all platforms.

Even that aside, AK plays fine(60fps) now. ESPECIALLY if you have a 980ti.

This delights me to know.

On one hand I agree with Bethesda. A fully featured multi-player component is important when reviewing a game for a wide audience. On the other hand, it could easily just mean that it's a bad game and they're buying time.

That shitstorm should never ever be the measuring stick for PC ports. That was one fuck up by parties that didn't give a shit.

id are never going to release a PC game in that state. You have nothing to be worried about, if you have a 980ti I would get it for PC.

This made me giggle.

Mannnn, Event Horizon... I know it wasn't received well, but this movie bothered me when I first watched it. So I kinda like it, lol.
Especially those
"flashes"

Yeah, that was basically his response, too.

Event Horizon definitely developed a cult following over the years. Many of my friends are Horror fans and love it. It's definitely flawed, but fucking cool and essentially Doom for sure.

You talking about the helmet Halo ripped off of Doom right? The Doom suit craps all over that up armor motocross suit from Halo. I was watching the live action trailer today thinking how badass that thing looks.

I doubt that's the case. The GTX 1080 demo (1080p, Ultra preset) runs north of 100fps at all times once vsync is disabled. Sure, that's a GTX 1080, but it's estimated to be around twice as fast a 970, in which case anybody with the latter card (or AMD equivalent) should be able to manage close to an unwavering 60fps at the same settings and those with a better one have nothing to worry about.

That was at 1440p too, you'd probably constantly hit 200FPS at 1080/Ultra with Vulkan on

I think that's just a misunderstanding. Nvidia said that the games demoed during the livestream announcement were running at 1440p, but the Doom demo took place afterwards and behind closed doors. Also, PC Gamer says that the demo was running at 1080p as the display was a 1080p projector.

Name me one other AAA game in 2015 or 2016 that was as fucked up as AK on the PC alone. Because your post reads like you believe Arkham Knight is the standard.

PC is my main gaming platform, just want to make sure I get the best experience I can with the game.

Obviously arkham Knight was an exception and yes, it is in a better state now, although I wouldn't want to wait in this case for the game to be in such a state.

I was just asking because of the DOOM beta pc performance thread there is right here in GAF.

Was just answering like that because I was answered as if it was completely impossible for a bad pc port to happen, which is clearly not true.

Quantum break is another case I'd like to mention.

So yeah, bad ports happen.

I'm gonna blow my speakers out with that shit.

I remember when DOOM 3 came out, I just blasted that opening menu theme on full volume for weeks.

We should be friends. I love Chris Vrenna.

I have been scouring the internet for any snippets of the Doom soundtrack the last week trying to hear every little bit I could. Hopefully they release the OST in the next couple of days as opposed to the 13th. It'll give me some time to listen to it at work before I delve into the game next weekend.

I've been watching bits and pieces of the game through early streamers, and the soundtrack is absolutely superb from what I've seen (heard?). It doesn't play all the time, but it seems to be en eclectic mixture of Doom throwbacks and modern metal.

I may be getting this early so it'll be interesting if I really enjoy the game and then it gets like a 50 Metascore or something.

Read Tiago Sousa's twitter (@idsoftwaretiago)

He's the lead engine programmer for DOOM. Whenever he can he shouts out how awesome the PC version will be.

I have no doubts that it will be the best version and is well optimized.

I've been looking for whatever i could find from the new OST. Even poor rips have been great. Cant wait for the 9 string goodness in full when I get the game.

It goddamn better.

Also apparently a vinyl release was hinted. HYPE.
