You can test too? So multiplayer forge maps for free on Windows 10 in 4k? O_O Megaton either way, they have really been doing a fantastic job supporting and updating Forge.

Yeah. I was about to say this is very similar to what Turn 10 is doing with Forza 6 Apex.

Also, "but look for even more exciting updates coming to the Forge experience in Halo 5: Guardians on the Xbox One in the coming months – including new environments, advanced file sharing capabilities, new pieces, palettes, props, and much more."

Give it to me.

Yeah, similar to Turn 10 dipping their toe in and crunching issues as they pop up. Also probably give MS as a whole info on how to improve the platform.

Pretty sure they are using this to expose new people to the Windows app store so if they ever release halo for PC they will have a larger group already familiar with the eco system.

They might as well release the whole thing or, at least, the multiplayer.

I mean, they must be at LEAST doing this, right? I'm OK conceptually with them not releasing the campaign (it'd be a bummer for PC players but porting it would be its own set of complications) but to not release any multiplayer PC environment at all (no F2P, no repurposed Live matchmaking for PC, whatever) other than letting others who've downloaded Forge Halo 5 Edition to come on your map and rocket around in it, why??

Forge using kb/m seems like a natural thing but this so feels like a half step. I am now fully expecting some kind of Halo 5 Windows 10 announcement at E3.

Halo 5 Guardians MAUs make it the most popular Halo game to date following the release of Forge Halo 5 Guardians for Windows 10. PR workers rejoice.

Microsoft with the baby steps then full release games on Windows 10 PC........Xbox Live Gold required....enjoy.

what do you mean why?

to give the forge community more content and ways to build maps.

why does it have to be more than that?

gold isnt required on pc, i dont see why the console wars bullshit like this needs to leak into every thread

looks like h5 on windows 10 announcement is slated for e3. if you can play halo 5 on a pc via forge/customs .. then yeah.. it's already set in place.

I find this quite lame. It's just tease of the actual Halo 5 game experience to get people to buy an Xbox One.

Looks like proper Halo isn't coming to Windows PC anytime soon...

They might as well release the whole thing or, at least, the multiplayer.

What is this halo lite shit. Just give us the full game.

So the level building tool is coming to PC, but the game itself isn't?

Wow. What dedication. MS truly cares for the PC platform.

What a fuckin' weird half-measure.

What a joke.

Just announce Halo on PC already

So......to get Halo 5 on PC you need to create it yourself.

Uh...this isn't for PC gamers, but for people who play Halo 5. Forgers have been wanting a PC client (because map editors are easier to use on PC) for years.

I don't understand what this is.

I know what Forge is, but someone explain to me how this isn't a just a full multiplayer mode release?

What exactly can I do in this with friends?

Man Microsoft is truly revolutionizing pc gaming with those groundbreaking features they add

Ummm yeaaaaaah. So you don't understand that it's cool for us Halo 5 players to be able to forge on a PC with easier controls? Just throwing shade without thought?

Bingo

Wonderful, who can really complain about a free game? It seems like a companion app for the Xbox One version.

I'm not complaining but it definitely sounds like they're teasing a full PC version with this. They've already clearly ported the engine and any relevant assets to Forge to PC, why do all that work and just stop at one game mode?

Forge is here so you can make maps and test them ON windows 10 with full keyboard and mouse support in glorious 4k?

E3 COME THE FUCK ON ALREADY!

Lol. To avoid backlash they are splitting up the game and delivering it piece by piece. Bold strategy, Cotton.

Irony of it all is that you need to be able to play test Forge maps, so you'll probably be able to spawn and run around.

This his hilariously lame and they know it.

What a fuckin' weird half-measure.

What a joke.

So, you'll go through all the work of 4K resolution but not the full game? Plus, I'm assuming you can't play the maps obviously... but it says test them...?

This is really fucking dumb. Like, dumbest thing I've seen this generation dumb.

I wonder why Microsoft are pathologically committed to not giving PC gamers a proper version of Halo, at least since they used it as a reason to get people to buy Vista.

Given how much they are saying finally being able to use keyboard and mouse is a good feature (which I agree with), why haven't they let you use a keyboard and mouse on the Xbox version of Halo Forge yet?

Yeah, those PC gamers (who don't own an Xbox One) will definitely be eager to create and play test maps for a game that they don't own.

Touché, Microsoft.

What is this shit, just put the Halo games on PC. Many PC gamers already own xbox controller.

Between this and Forza apex I have no idea what ms is doing.

What did you expect, that people would be happy at getting just the map creation tool? No, we want the full game. This is just a tease and as such, it's bound to disappoint.

If you don't understand, or you're not even interested in the medium, then stop trying to shit on an enormous announcement. Seriously, this is close to a quarter of the posts so far.
This isn't for PC gamers. This isn't for people looking for Halo on PC. This is for content creators that have been asking for more precise and robust tools to create Halo content for close to a decade.

Holy shit this is awesome.

Looks more and more like Microsoft's approach to PC gaming isn't necessarily pandering to port begging (also seen in this thread) and instead portioning parts off of games to get people interested then potentially pick up an Xbox. Seems smart. They still do ports where they make sense.

It's a tool for H5 Forge enthusiasts. Not a full game. I'm sure folks will use the test feature to play and have fun. But the ultimate purpose is to give Forgers really high fidelity, quicker iterating toolsets.

ive never touched forge because the insane amount of options just seems insurmountable with a controller without hours of messing around, but on pc, i could see myself getting in there

They probably want at least one flagship Xbox One exclusive that you can't get anywhere else, with a free mode everybody wins. It enhances the editing suite for Halo 5 players and it gives those curious in the franchise a taste of the core mechanics which may lead to them buying an Xbox One and Halo 5. No one loses with a free game.

It's a great idea. Makes it much easier to be creative on a PC and the ability to share that back to consoles. Sure, it may lead to Halo 5 or another on PC but for now, not bad and a wanted feature. We all win right?

have they ported any xbox exclusives with multiplayer to UWP yet? i don't think we know this for sure unless they've specifically said.

gears?

But the integration of Xbox Live into Windows 10 leads to one obvious question: Will PC gamers be required to sign up for Xbox Live Gold in order to access online features in games? Premium service subscriptions are all but mandatory for consoles, but it's not something PC gamers have ever had to put up with—not since the days of TEN, anyway, and we all know how that worked out.

Fortunately, Microsoft said that's not the plan. "Not charging," Larry Hryb, AKA Major Nelson, confirmed on Twitter. "Xbox Live Gold will not be required for online multiplayer gaming using our service on Windows 10 PCs and Phones."

Killer Instinct has cross platform play between Xbox One and PC, PC users don't need gold whereas Xbox One players do.

Makes sense to me, but it's still a huge inadvertent slap in the face to people who've been wanting Halo (at release) on PC for years. I opened the thread and started reading and mistakenly thought Halo 5 was just announced to come to the PC platform along with Forge.

As a long time Halo fan who hasn't been console gaming since the first Xbox released, it really sucks to not get a chance to play the awesome multiplayer modes (not to mention campaign) when the game releases on Xbox. Is there any reason not to bring this game to Windows? If even handled with a little care and dedication, there would be a booming fanbase/player count for years to come.

Seems like a no brainer to me.

That was your mistake.

First Forza Lite, now Halo Lite.

It's cool that you can at least play test it on the PC, so people can actually play the game with their friends.

Of course, the lack o matchmaking or server browsers are going to make it a pain in the ass, but I believe that's by design.

Can a Xbox One user play during test sessions or do all players have to be on W10?

Good for you, I mean it, really. But it's also a slap in the face for all the absolutely gigantic amount of people that would love to play actual Halo 5 on PC, and now they can just toy with the map creation tool.
