Halo Forge coming to Windows 10 later this year

It's a tool for H5 Forge enthusiasts. Not a full game. I'm sure folks will use the test feature to play and have fun. But the ultimate purpose is to give Forgers really high fidelity, quicker iterating toolsets.
So we can use this for custom games too though then pretty much? Either way this is awesome

I find this quite lame. It's just tease of the actual Halo 5 game experience to get people to buy an Xbox One.

Looks like proper Halo isn't coming to Windows PC anytime soon...

Well yes, Microsoft is still very much in the business of selling Xbox One consoles.

Uh...this isn't for PC gamers, but for people who play Halo 5. Forgers have been wanting a PC client (because map editors are easier to use on PC) for years.

Thank you! Getting tiresome to read comments from people thinking the whole game is coming to PC.

It's obviously not for PC gamers.

I think people's disappointment is that it could have been for PC gamers.

No one is asking for full Halo games missing the Forge mode, or for MS to not release a standalone free Forge mode. They are just saying that they'd like Microsoft to fully commit to their stated position of wanting to do PC gaming properly.

Good for you, I mean it, really. But it's also a slap in the face for all the absolutely gigantic amount of people that would love to play actual Halo 5 on PC, and now they can just toy with the map creation tool.
But it's not even for them, it's a companion app for the console game- like the Android/iOS Destiny apps.

Does the testing need to be done with players on Xbox One, or will PC players be able to play Spartan?

And they can also play on these maps. Obviously has no full MP with matchmaking, but you are on a goddamn Game Forum, so you will most likely find people to play with. It's also free, you know?

So make them and play them? I get the first, but if they aren't planning on a proper Halo release on PC, the latter seems rather ridiculous.

I'm surprised they are allowing folks to play and test on the platform. That's a sweet addition. A tiny portion of Halo 5's multiplayer is going F2P, essentially.

Can a Xbox One user play during test sessions or do all players have to be on W10?

test mode is intended solely for PC clients. Published levels and creations will be 100% Xbone compatible. And of course we'll have more to discuss about the implementation of those creations in the Xbox environment at a later time.

I mean they can buy a console like everyone else just like I did.

No, actually it's not. You are just delusionally entitled ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This. Thank you. Not that difficult to understand. I understand the benefits of releasing this on PC, but it's a huge slap in the face (unintentionally) to those who want this franchise to release on time via Windows.

MS says they want to properly support PC gaming and bringing Halo on board would be a fantastic way to deliver on that commitment.

if you lived in one town, and a restaurant you really like opened in another town, would they be slapping you in the face? A feature that didnt exist now does and isnt the feature YOU want it to be. thats not slapping you in the face.

Guys it is okay to not be a Forge enthusiast and be disappointed the full game is not coming to PC

I don't get why this is hard for some people to understand

"Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re bring this same spirit of creation and collaboration to the PC later this year with Forge – Halo 5: Guardians Edition for Windows 10."

Since I haven't be in on Halo news, I thought this was an addition to announcing Halo 5 for PC (a separate announcement before this one) and got excited. It's confusing the way it's worded and I totally understand initially confused.

aka, forge community maps will now be part of the sustain project after June 2016. Forge team will hold a bigger role in the sustain as the main team moves onto the next project.

I totally get it :p

I agree. However for folks wondering why we don't "just" port the whole game - realtalk:

While I personally believe it's an evergreen masterpiece of whimsy and wonder, it would be a year old by the time Forge released, and given the architecture, cloud, matchmaking, etc etc etc etc differences between platforms, it would be neither trivial to port, nor uncompromised in that process, given it was designed with targeted Xbox One perf in mind to begin with.

Both audiences deserve better than that, as you'll see with Halo Wars 2 onwards, which was designed with Xbox AND PC in mind from scratch and makes the most of each platform's relative strengths.

I don't think Halo 5 proper is going to end up on PC... but Halo 6 will, day and date.

Because every time I don't get 100% of what I want, it's a "slap in the face".

It's a slap in the face because MS constantly talks about wanting to deliver on the PC gaming front. Obviously the first step in doing so would be bringing Halo to PC since it's one of their most popular franchises. If you're going to release Forge, why not just go all the way and port the game over to Windows and support it? If done right, would it really not sell and thrive in this environment?

I do hope we'll continue to see more in the way Halo Wars 2 is showing Microsoft going forwards. I assume the already in "end development" games are not coming to PC but rather the new upcoming projects.
However let me just say Crackdown would be amazing on PC.
