NPD Sales Results for April 2016 [Sony, MS, & Nintendo refuse to comment on hardware]

150mn, that's almost 10% less than XBOX360 and PS3 combined. Following the rules of arstechica-math, consoles will be doomed in approx. 10 years.
Best thing is, according to arstechnica-math:
While there are no more consoles left in 10 years, GTA will sell around 400 million copies on consoles that year.

QB was $48 on amazon the day after it launched.

Prime offers 20% off new titles for 2 weeks after launch, which would be $48 on a $60 MSRP game. Or is this a non-Prime deal, you're talking about?

I think it's like $35 at BestBuy in a week or two from the CAG threads, as well.

Nobody is stopping MS to sell QB or any game at $40 if that's all it takes to succeed.

QB is already $40 after all, so May numbers should be huge /s

Anybody find it odd that all 3 still havent commented yet on hardware sales? Maybe I should say 2 since MS switched to MAU...

One I can see, but all 3? They must be talking among themselves. MS switches to MAU yet Sony didnt follow by also reporting it. Or being as vocal about it as MS.

I cant see 1 just looking at the others and saying "you know what, we wont comment either"

Nintendo have nothing good to say about their hardware (lowest Wii U month this year, third worst month ever, and down YoY. Lowest 3DS month this year, third worst month ever, and down YoY), Microsoft are down YoY, and Sony is flat YoY and pretty close to Xbox.

Not a good month.

I'm surprised Sony hasn't commented on Uncharted 4 numbers. I thought they would atleast mention how many they have shipped.
Any idea how it's selling in the wild? Looking at Amazon, it's still ranked number (1) in the hourly chart after a week it's been out.

MS missed their chance with xbox family winning the month!

This must be the most boring idea to ever spout a conspiracy theory.

Probably gonna wait until NPD before they say anything. We know it's debuting well based on Media Create and PAL charts.

I honestly can't tell which extreme side you're talking about. The ones who think it will compete with PS4K and get third party games galore for some unexplained reason, or the ones who have already written off an unannounced console as the worst thing ever that will kill Nintendo or go 3rd party.

I'll assume the first...though I think the latter outnumbers them after the Wii U.

No... I'm talking about ALL OF IT. Anyone that cares that much. On any side. It's ALL madness.

Did you think that $20 less on launch is not an important factor?

A factor? Sure. Did it help "A LOT"? No. Launch period sales of games software is notoriously not very price sensitive. Price sensitivity really doesn't kick in until you get down in the sub $30 range, and really rises when you get to $20 with promotional pricing below that.

Yes, they very likely got some incremental units from the lower price. But it's also very likely not any quantity that would classify as "A LOT" or as a driving factor of the sales. The surge in interest on R&C around launch wasn't primarily about the price point. It was about the game being a high quality game.

I think the price is more likely to have shifted the physical/digital (towards digital) mix much more meaningfully than the total unit sales number.

My take.

Sure. And priced at 39.90 helped A LOT with that!

Right so after somebody quoted you laughing at another poster for suggesting the very thing you declared a foregone conclusion in this thread was even possible you have now changed your argument to the lower price point being the main driving factor of the sales for Ratchet and Clank. Well heres the problem bub: we've had plenty of lower price point debuts that failed to sell.

The main driving factor for R&C's sales was that it was a more appealing product with great reviews and fantastic WoM all of which can not be said of QB as it had mediocre reviews with heavily critical WoM thanks to a slew of issues with its PC port and the hook it was offering with an integrated TV show was one the public by and large found unappealing. There are far more factors to consider than price point and simplifying it down to that and that alone is nothing more than an agenda driven attempt to dismiss the success of the former and hand waive the sub par performance of the latter as a foregone conclusion.

So, to reiterate, no, R&C's price is no more the driving factor of its success than QB's price is the driving factor of its failure to sell.

Edit

It's been just a week, Sony is in a strong leading position, they don't need to rush out PR as soon as possible.

I'm glad to see Star Fix eked it's way in! I know the game got a lot of bad press, but at least this means Zero won't kill the franchise, right?

... Right?

Actual sales figures are more important than numerical ranking and the sales weren't exactly encouraging to say the least. I wouldn't hold your breath for a followup if I were you.

I don't think ~100k in first month is encouraging for another game.

Well that's bigger than Star Fox Assault, and at retail, with digital the gap is even bigger.

If in the next months it will show great/decent legs, i think Nintendo will be fine with that and there are realistic chance for another Star Fox.

Decent legs? Ryng... Dont do this to yourself.

Star Fox: Assault was actually a good game in the sense that it went back to tried and true mechanics after SFA. Going to Player's Choice also helped a lot, as paying $20 for a less than top tier game is easier to handle. It sold ~160K its first two months. Think Zero and its abominable controls (*shakes fist at Nintendo for preventing Off-TV play by forcing motion in*) will stay ahead after two months?

According to a certain water related gem we all know and love the game would need to sell around 1 million units to be profitable considering the development budget. That seems incredibly unlikely to me. I doubt we will see another Star Fox game for a long time.... I blame Shigeru's ridiculous need to anchor game play to awkward gimmicks.

Spain sales

Spain (Week 9-15):

http://www.ivoox.com/vandal-radio-3...r-audios-mp3_rf_11597301_1.html?autoplay=true

1- Uncharted 4 Special Edition (45k-48k)
2- Uncharted 4 (~25k)
3- Uncharted 4 Libertalia (+5k)
4- Doom PS4 (2 days of sale) (~5k)
5- Yo-kai Watch (+15k since launch)

Uncharted 4 arround 80k is really crazy.

UC3 sold 40k its first week.

Don't understand why they can't just try Assault again with better controls/graphics, and adding more flight integration. (also with better controls.)

So a Black Friday 2DS @ $50 is now a distinct possibility. Think it would move the needle appreciably?
I'd love to see the cogs for the 2DS. I guess even at 50$ they'd make a profit, so why not. Problem is: even at that price, is the 2DS somehow attractive enough / worthy to waste Black Friday flyer space on?

Anyway, it's somehow saddening to think of black friday. Feels like the year is almost over.

I keep refreshing to see if Cosmic has been broken yet and I leave disappointed.
Broken by what?
Edit: NX still. I see.
