Custom Cover Art - Minimalist, clean, or alternative box arts for your favorite games

Anyone have a good cover for Pokemon Y for 3ds? I picked up a used copy but it had no case and I'd like to make it look decent.

How's this? - (Full size here)

Is this thread still a thing? I've been messing around in Photoshop again

And does anyone know if there is a good PS4 template / 3d cover thing?

edit: and xbone while we're at it

Any easy way to do this in CS6?
Very easy in fact. At the bare minimum using a template in the correct dimensions with some guides to indicate the spine is enough. Then finding suitable images for the front, back and spine and you'd have yourself a cover (albeit however basic). Many templates already have the platform logos and other elements you'd find on an official case so there's less work to be done in that regard.

Been out of the custom box art game for a while.

I guess it's because I've actually been buying a lot fewer packaged retail games over the last couple years or so. The switch to new consoles while I moved over to PC may have accelerated that, but I've really just been buying fewer $50 and $60 games in general.

Edit: A few publishers have stepped up their game with official box arts in my opinion too. Quite a few came out in the last couple years that I was perfectly fine with.

I agree with this generally. Box art has seen some really nice upticks over the past few years.

That said, my interest in custom boxarts remains because of my lack of interest in having my covers plastered with ratings, copyrights or commentary on the game's greatness.

I wish I could find a custom Bayonetta 1 Wii U cover that would actually print the right damn size. Even after messing around with the settings it's either too big or too small.

It's been awhile since I last did some cover art, but the rather atrocious PAL Gravity Rush Remastered box art was some good impetus. I don't mind the plain background of the Asian and US release, but I think it loses some of the otherworldly charm of the game's environment in the process.

Special thanks to PaulloDEC for digitizing some of the concept art that I used for the background.

I found a 10k x 5x piece of FE Fates art that's used on the box of the SE. If anyone wants I can take a crack at using this for a more minimal cover. Does anyone know what the dimensions are for the 3DS boxart?

edit: I take it back, it's got an awesome reversible cover.

So, for quite a while now, I've been throwing away my game cases. I began to really regret this about a year ago.

Pretty much all my games are Nintendo titles. Nintendo sells replacement cases, but finding high-quality scans of the original covers is difficult. They're out there—there's a couple of sites dedicated to cataloging cover art scans, in fact—but few of them are particularly high quality scans. The colors look off, and you can see other imperfections in the paper.

So, last summer, I made my own, using artwork I'd found. I finally got around to printing them (via a professional printer on nice, glossy paper).

They came out really, so I'm going to post them here, in the hopes that they'll help someone else, but huge caveat—I put these together last summer, and I do not remember where the original artwork came from. I know some of it came from official desktop wallpapers, but I think some of it was fanart, too, and I also know that I used a pre-existing template someone had created (although I modified it quite a bit). I take no ownership over these cover arts, and I really apologize to the original creators if I uploaded some of your work.

Anywhere, here is a link to all of the cover arts. List of games is:
-Wind Waker HD
-WarioWare Smooth Moves
-Tropical Freeze
-Rayman Legends
-Pikmin 3
-Nintendoland
-New Super Mario Bros U
-Mass Effect 3 (Wii U)
-Mario 3D World
-Kirby's Return to Dreamland
-Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Wii U)
-Bayonetta (Wii U)
-Bayonetta 2
-Batman Arkham City (Wii U)

I'll post some pictures tomorrow when there's sunlight outside to take nicer pictures by (I hate pictures that are lit by yellow artificial light)

I bought Pikmin 2 for the Wii and its the nintendo select box art. I am fine with that box art but I wanted Is there a way to get the original box art from the gamecube in Wii format?

This thread illustrates that corporate, modern marketers in the gaming industry need to be kicked out of their jobs.

I don't care how often they claim that their boring, generic box-art leads to more sales from all the "little Billy's" out there. I just can't see how it can be true when there are so many better examples in this thread alone that would be far more eye-catching on store shelves!

Will hopefully have a chance to contribute to this myself one day. Truly a hidden gem!

Hey guys, I'm super new at making this sort of stuff, and I'd love the encouragement and especially criticism. But because I'm super shy and mine are definitely not as good as yours, I'll just share a link instead of embedding them in this thread: http://imgur.com/a/Dttxl

It's a bunch of old games for an old computer, that I'm putting on floppies. The illustrations are mostly scans of 30 year old covers found on the internet, cleaned to the best of my abilities. The idea is to use floppy calendar cases for each game. My original idea was not to have a back cover, and have short instructions (launch, keys) printed on the reverse that could be read with the case closed. Tonight I did three with a full back cover, and I think they do look much better.

The main thing is made in LibreOffice Draw, with the text and colour boxes. The images are painfully edited with Irfanview (resize, crop, colour correction) and paint.net (transparency and stuff), sometimes cleaned a bit with waifu2x.

I searched around and can't seem to find any.

I'm looking for a Metal Gear Phantom Pain/Ground Zeros mash up custom cover. I have a two disc ps4 blu ray case and I think it would look cool to have both of the MGSV titles in one box. Anyone up for making one? The only thing I'm picky about is I want the official PS4 banners on it so it matches all my other games. So, if someone could make one that would be rad.

Hi, looking for cover for Batman: Arkham Origins. Front Covers PS3 logo on the side only PS3 logo and inscription Arkham Origins. Anyone of you has the cover. Thank you in advance and best regards.

Anyone have a template for PAL DS cases? I can't seem to find it anywhere.. and the american ones don't match properly due to the size differences, especially the spine part.

I know it's not completely on topic but a couple of people from the No Man's Sky thread mentioned I should post my PSD for the fake book cover I did, so I'll post it here as well if anyone wants it. Awesome topic btw. :)
Here are two PSDs with the book cover art, I'll post them in the box cover art thread as well.

"NMS_book_cover_6.psd" requires additional steps for the final look but it's easier to work with (basically add Gaussian Blur with a 1.2 value, either by merging the text layers or making Smart Objects out of the groups and then adding Smart Filters or whatever, and then merging the entire image and making a copy and applying the Color Halftone filter, Max Radius 4px and shifting the layer Blending Mode to Soft Light and its opacity to 30%).
"NMS_book_cover_8.PSD" has all of the layers converted into Smart Objects with applied Smart Filters, but it's maybe a bit more annoying to work with since it's all Smart Objects within Smart Objects.

EDIT:
Forgot the image itself.

Seems to be a lack of xb1 covers around the internet, was thinking of maybe creating a few of my own. Is there a good template around, or a general tutorial on image size, dpi, etc?

Yeah I saw that page earlier and downloaded an xb1 template but I'm confused as to what to do. Do I fit the image within the boxart space in an image program and simply print it off?

You would use a program like Photoshop, yes. As far as printing goes, I am unsure as I haven't done anything of that sort before!
