Not getting into the stupid, "thanks for Trump" garbage, but I've just about given up on TDS at this point. Noah is just bland and unfunny. The show is in a confused state where it's in a rut and appears to have no idea what it wants to be. The show has completely lost it's wit and edge. It could be worse though, it could be The Nightly Show...

I think Trevor is doing fine, but I can see how its more like a random correspondent standing in for Jon while he is on vacation at the moment. We are hearing the writers through Trevor rather than him like we used to with Jon

Nightly show has improved a lot, I value Larry's opinion a lot more for certain topics but it isn't anywhere all-encompassing as Jon's was.

Nightly show has improved a lot, I value Larry's opinion a lot more for certain topics but it isn't anywhere all-encompassing as Jon's was.

The Nightly Show has its moments, but a lot of the "bits" feel kind of weak (especially when they have the various staff members playing different characters). I think it's more in the writing than it is the performance.

That said, the running gag with Mike Yard continually being made to look like the bad guy in the meaningless argument segments is still pretty funny.

Sophia A McClennen really has it out for Trevor Noah. This isn't the first time she's blamed Trevor for Trump or Fox News. The amount of responsibility this person puts towards satirists is troubling, as if they're literally the only source of news she absorbs about issues. She holds them as saviours.

What in the fuck. What is her problem? I don't know much about Trevor Noah, but I know that even before he started taking over, there was controversy. What is the deal with that?


People are very cruel to show hosts. Jimmy Fallon is the one who gets the most flack I feel. I don't think he is funny, but I don't think he deserves the hate he gets. It just seems unnecessary. But then again... YT comments:I

Bassem is great but his accent is far too thick to be a Jon transplant. Trevor's accent is smooth as butter.

One random thing I don't really enjoy that Trevor has done is the grungy breakdown in the middle of the iconic brass intro theme of TDS. It's jarring and I don't think it accomplishes whatever it was aiming for.

I feel like the commentary in that piece is mostly unfair.

First, Jon Stewart reached legendary status in the world of political commentary after years and years of figuring it out. Trevor is on the cusp of completing year one, and he's still figuring out that groove. He deserves more time.

Second, the landscape has changed. Jon Stewart carried the mantle of that liberal iconoclastic attack dog, but that mantle's been dispersed across several new commentators. Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah, Larry Wilmore. They're all sharp, biting in their own way, and mirror Stewart's style in many ways. Is it fair to place all accountability for Stewart's absence on just one of those people? Probably not.

Do I think Noah has the best news satire program on TV? Hardly. I think Samantha Bee has carried on the heart and soul of Stewart's legacy and her show is fucking brilliant. She's fucking brilliant. I'm seeing her clips circulating on social media already but it's gonna be a slow burn. I think she has the potential to fill that void for people, but as with Stewart, she's going to need more time to settle in.

Salon is a tabloid news site in the clothes of a real news and news analysis website.

Noah is not as good as Stewart, but he's not the reason for Trump and Fox News' content during the election cycle.

Salon somewhere along the line turned into Liberal Breitbart / The Blaze. I say this even as someone who is pretty liberally inclined

John Oliver and Samantha Bee are more interesting now than Stewart was during the last couple of years of his run. Meh.

If Stewart got a week between shows instead of a day, I think he would have destroyed what Oliver and Bee do. Heck, look at Oliver's run on TDS when Stewart was on break versus his current show. Same person, difference between a day of prep and a week of prep.

Comedy central really screwed up here. They should have signed John Oliver to this spot. It's a damn shame.

They tried - but HBO had already signed him during the run where he was taking over for Stewart. They went after a ton of people - Bill Simmons was reporting that they went after and offered Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Louis CK, Amy Schumer, tons of major talent - but doing a daily show is really, really hard, and no one wanted to put the kind of hours in required to do a daily show instead of a weekly show.

It does royally suck that Stewart and Colbert jumped ship right before this incredible election season. I barely watched them but I would have probably caught every episode this year.

Colbert didn't retire though, and is still around, just on a different show.

I feel like John Oliver has replaced Jon Stewart in the mindshare of the public. Noah has to compete with not just what Stewart left behind but also John Oliver, who hosted the Daily Show for a short while as well.

I think Noah is pretty close in quality to Stewart most of the time (although he always does seem disconnected from the issues), but John Oliver has easily cemented himself as the replacement for Stewart, especially when his show doesn't have the restrictions the Daily Show has.

The only issues I never saw Jon take on to my own personal level of satisfaction were labour issues that weren't 9/11 responder related. he never seemed to touch on such topics, as if unions and workers rights (unless it was an overseas plant/factory collapsing) were not worth the time to inform people about.
