Nintendo seemingly has no regular booth at GDC 2017

Thank you for the information as always, and for presenting it in such an eminently digestible fashion. Love the inclusion of the Bob-ombs.

True. Rosti always makes the most detailed and understandable threads about the most complex topics of Nintendo. Truly appreciated, Rosti!

Maybe I'm crazy, but perhaps this indicates that they will be having their own conference for NX at some point and felt that scaling back their presence at GDC was a way to make that fit underneath their operations budget.
Well that is what I was trying to say in my post.
Makes sense to have the NX reveal be a controlled event.

Can't wait for Nintendo's new marketing strategy, where they will use psychic messaging to inform us of their new products.

Yeah, I think the poster on the previous page that spoke about the NX not translating to a conference type setting was onto something. Perhaps the NX has a focus on augmented reality, and uses multiple cameras and sensors on top of your main display and in the controller. I could see that being a son of a bitch to work reliably for a stage reveal or in a crowded show floor setting.

GDC is not about revealing the hardware, that should happen hopefully way before GDC. So it doesn't matter if it's not the best way to show it.

yeah, after being to gdc twice, i can say that the place is more for devs to make connections than it is for people to try out the hot new games (unless you're an indie developer and desperately want someone to try your hot new game).

in 2014, nintendo was pushing nintendo web framework. xbox is a lounge. sony treats it like e3.

i do think there's a very good chance nintendo won't release nx this fiscal year though. march is suspicious.

GAF, you put too much behind GDC. Been going there for years and it's mostly for networking, going to talks, looking for gigs, meeting up with friends and getting hammered at parties. Not necessarily in that order.

Any type of showing hardware to 3rd parties will happen behind closed doors or at some other more location. Major 3rd party developers have already probably been briefed on the hardware.

While it is a bit worrying as far as overall outreach it has absolutely no bearing on support or lack of support from the big guys. Major publishers do not wait until GDC and similar events to talk to developers.

The majority of developer-publisher interaction at GDC would be small devs. Nintendo is not going to GDC to talk support with EA,Ubisoft etc.

Update: When I checked the floor plans and exhibitor list today, July 13, Microsoft is no longer included.

They had the large booth BS4926, but now it says it is available.

I sent a tweet to Larry Hryb about this, we'll see if he answers.

While separate to Nintendo, I figured this thread would suffice to bring this up in.
