It seems that this bench is in Dx11, in Dx12 there should be a significant boost:

1920x1080
R9 290X DX11 = 45 fps
R9 290X DX12 = 74.8 fps

2560x1440
R9 290X DX11 = 32 fps
R9 290X DX12 = 52.5 fps

3440x1440
R9 290X DX11 = 25 fps
R9 290X DX12 = 41 fps

http://gameranx.com/updates/id/54685/article/total-war-warhammer-directx-12-benchmarks/

I wonder if the Dx12 will be available from the D1

EDIT - nvm, i've just found the answer!

We’re pleased to confirm that Total War: WARHAMMER will also be DX12 compatible, and our graphics team has been working in close concert with AMD’s engineers on the implementation. This will be patched in a little after the game launches, but we’re really happy with the DX12 performance we’re seeing so far, so watch this space!

Those are significant improvements! I hope Nvidia matches them... but I worry.

Sub Zero

his body's cold as ice, but he's got a heart of gold
They're probably saving major races like Skaven, Elves and Lizardmen for the next 2 games. What we'll probably get in the DLC/FLC are sub-variants of the ones we have like Tomb Kings, Chaos Dwarfs, other Human races etc

Well, the "Trilogy" is more like 2 more stand-alone expansions in addition to the main game, so if they add the other races through those that's kind of like adding all the races through DLC. Regardless, I'm pretty sure those two expansions are coming out within a year, so we'll probably see every other race by this time next year.

Any chance sequels are Age of Sigmar?

Very low.

AoS focuses on 40K style skirmishes instead of large scale formations fighting.
AoS have barely a world to conquer. They didn't bother to try and write something that would replace The Old World from WH:F properly before throwing everything out the window.
AoS plays out in space inside bubbles of "realms" or whatever, so there is no world to try and move around properly on and conquer Total War style.

Basically, just wait for Dawn of War 3 and then pretend that the Space Marine bolters shoots thunder instead and you got your Age of Sigmar videogame right there.

Zero. There's no reason for CA to be interested in that setting.

I don't think that the other Warhammer games will be out that quickly. CA seems to be treating them as full releases, and they're still making the historical games. It'll probably be years before they're done with all the Warhammer factions.

Very excited for this. Never really played a total war game before despite having medeival 2 on my steam account. The fantasy aspect has won me over though and the trailers look amazing. Hopefully it's beginner friendly.

Yaaaaaaay! Awesome OT :)

Can't wait to play this sometime tomorrow. Juggling this with Overwatch will be fun though :)

Thank you! It was my first one.

Performance Thread is ready to go... (well, hope so).

According to the official twitch stream the game will unlock in 9 hours here in Europe, but steam says it's still ~18 hours away. Do you want me to post it now, wait till we are closer to release or does somebody else wants to do one?

Post it if you got it! I will link to it in the OP.

Kemmler was there from the beginning as far as I know.
He was one of my favorite heroes in my very first White Dwarf back in.... probably 1997 or so. They made an awesome graveyard diorama with him. Same with Arbaal the Undefeated for Chaos with a pretty cool modded model that had sort of chaos-jaguar skin on his mount, and also Deathmaster Snikch. I started as a Greenskin player but I always really dug Undead, Chaos, and Skaven models the most.

It seems like it will take a lot more work to add new races compared to new factions in the historical Total Wars. In those all you really needed was to make new armor and weapons to place on your humans (not that it's not a good amount of work) but to add, say, skaven you have to create a whole new model, set of animations, weapons, armor, and voices to flesh out the new race. I'm sure they are coming though, just not as fast as the culture packs in Rome and Attila.

Steam page says this unlocks in 16 hours. I thought it was a 9pm PST release?

Yeah I was confused by that too. There are definitely articles out there saying it unlocks in 7 hours and change from now.

Hopefully they havn't revised that backwards.

Money must be involved with unlocks. Pretty sure Fallout 4 unlocked virtually everywhere around the same time and close to midnight, not 8am in the morning. Unlocks just seem very random with games on Steam.

I hope enough people buy this to lock in an eventual Total Warhammer 40K.

Oh yeah, "Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment."

Fallout 4 had region-specific unlock times, however as far as I'm aware there's not yet an automated system in place for this and so some poor soul at the publisher has to be the one to update the list of eligible countries over the course of several hours, which is why most publishers opt for a single worldwide unlock time, such is the case here. By default, games unlock coincident with the store update of the day (10am PT), but publishers are free to opt for a different time -- the only caveat is that release dates cannot fall on a weekend (Sat/Sun), presumably so as to ensure that Valve's Steam business contacts are present to handle any issues that third parties cannot correct themselves via the SPD frontend.

That's definitely not happening. The Total War style of games is all about formation-based combat, so anything more futuristic than the Franco-Prussian War would be a bad fit for it. And of course, the Dawn of War series exists, so why not just play one of those instead?

Total Warhammer 40k won't happen simply because Dawn of War 3 exists and Sega publishes them both. They'd be splitting the customers they already have.

If it ever happens it'll have to be a lull period for Dawn of War.

Epic was rather formation based though, no? I never played it but I remember in White Dwarf it was basically just large squads of units and then vehicles and things like Titans moving independently, and it seemed to play a lot more like large-scale Warhammer fantasy than the typical Warhammer 40K.. Its ruleset may translate could maybe work in Total War.

And though I agree with the general 'WAR (fantasy) fits Total War-WAR40K fits Dawn of War', if there ever was an argument for a Total War WAR40K, it would be controlling titans.

Plus heavy artillery never really gets to shine in WAR40K in the same way it does in Epic probably, I'm guessing... would be pretty cool to tear shit up with tanks and heavy artillery that had much more serious range than WAR40K/Dawn of War typically offer.

Yup. Hopefully his bodyguard is in there too Krell

Krell isn't. It's possible he'll be added later as one of the alternative legendary lords, however someone on reddit made a good point that it should probably be Abhorash with the Blood Knights unit being added at the same time, as a thematic package. Currently sadly vampire counts don't have Blood Knights.

I'm hyped for this, but will hold off for now. Waiting for some patches first (took 2 yrs for Rome II to be good, and I built a new PC for that game -_-), and still need to play through Attila first.

it's kind of funny (or not really) that they killed WHFB while the game was in development

I really want to play this but my current laptop can't handle it. Eternal sadness

Rome 2 was good at launch, don't understand the hate it has gotten.

I would love a Game of Thrones Total War game. It would be awesome to conquer Westeros with an army of white walkers.

I think paradox grand strategy would be a better for game of thrones. But I get what you mean. Wildling army with giants, dragons, the battles certainly would be a good fit.

Umm.. You must be thinking of the re release, I think it was called emperors edition a year after it came out. That was good. It's even better now, but at launch the game wad literally broken.

Well there's mod support, so Lotr/Thrones mods seem fairly likely. They said they won't be officially supported and as such removed from the workshop due to copyrights, but afaik that doesn't prevent you from hosting them on other sites and what not. Does depend quite a bit on the modding tools accessibility though.

Game is available now in Australia at retail, can't install it as it's not released on Steam until tomorrow morning local time.

Bravo.

CA said yesterday that the steam unlock time was incorrect, game releases at 8AM BST, which is in about 5hours. I'm too lazy to do australian time conversion, but as far as I remember it's about GMT+10 or GMT+11, so it should be in the evening around 6-7PM. Steam unlock date points to a much later release though.

Rome 2 had one of the worst launches ever. It really did shake players' faith in CA. I mean Rome 2 is good now, but launch was pretty bad. Also Attila turned out fine at launch.

Warhammer seems like it's going to have a decent launch, so we'll see. I'm pretty excited, people have been waiting so long for a fantasy Total War entry. I can honestly see this as one of their best selling games if the launch goes smoothly.

btw as soon as Skaven become available you're not supposed to play anything else but suicidal rats. They might just as well disable all the other factions

I'm pretty sure there's already a popular GoT mod for Crusader Kings 2 if you're interested.

Didn't the Skaven pretty much curbstomp every other race during the End Times? I recall reading that they overran Brettonia and murdered/beheaded Thorgrim, though I don't really follow fantasy lore very much.

So I've never played a Total War game before and I like the Warhammer setting. What am I getting into here?

Well, there are two phases of gameplay. First is the campaign map. Here you manage your empire and move your armies. The other phase is the actual combat which is real-time.

If you don't really care for the campaign map part, you can always just play skirmishes, which is just the combat.

Yeah I should of just watched the "What is Total War; W" video. I like what I see and it's been a while since I've played a game like this. I'll bite. It looks like a lot of fun.

well I'm going to continue pretending that the End Times never happened but yes, in my fanfictional scenario the Skaven won everything and now the world is split into different warring rat clans, some which worship the great Skaven Emperor and some which really like trees and bows for no particular reason. At least they didn't suddenly decide to become Space Marines
