Official E3 Website adds "Xbox One Virtual Reality" Filter. 4+ companies register

So this popped up in the other Xbox VR Thread and this is pretty interesting. While its by no means a confirmation of anything, it does seem odd that the ESA would go out of their way to add a catagory and that several companies would outright register their product as such if there was no VR solution coming.

The list so far are Rebellion

Maximum Games

Thanks to NeoGAF user 00ich who found these. Thought it was deserving of its own thread as it does seem to add a little bit more fuel to the fire that some sort of VR implementation is being announced at E3 for Xbox Hardware.

That category has been there for quite some time actually. Good catch nonetheless.

Interesting, it was only added this year though for E3 correct? It wasn't there for previous years? Couple that with some companies listing their product under it and the rumors that are surfacing today and this seems to add a bit more credence to that

I'm surprised this thread hasn't garnered more attention. This supports the leak today regarding a VR game being developed. VR's going to require new hardware so hopefully we'll hear about Scorpio.

Wth? Didnt MS said they are on fence with VR? What VR h/w? Oculus?

That was one of the rumors for the Scorpio right? Native Oculus Rift support?

I think MS wants to get in on this, and they've already got a deal with Oculus so can imagine they might have continued talks about broadening the demographic/audience for Rifts.

Microsoft can keep that Oculus partnership, no thanks. Not like anti consumer strategies already cost them the lead this gen, right? So why not pony up with the most anti consumer people in the VR space?

Microsoft generally reveal games way too early so I don't think that's too unusual.

This gen after they went through launch, last gen they usually only showed games coming out in 12 months. Thats why every pre E3, a thread was made 'what does MS have for 20XX' Last gen, PS3 showed games too early, I guess thats the move when you are behind.

Wasn't there an insider comment about Microsoft being really unhappy that PS VR looks to be the front runner in terms of mindshare?

Going to be interesting to see how they try to counter its hype.

This E3 is really going to be something. Bummed I can't follow it all live.

Oculus is probably the best and safest way for Microsoft to make a VR play, so it makes sense if they are going to go all in with that partnership.

I'm still just interested how they are going to work these seemingly huge announcements for things that are more than a year out, though. Could make for a strange tone overall.

I doubt they go all in with a headset they don't control and is both too expensive and to high spec for the Xbox one. Either it's a joint and venture headset or just a PR distraction where there is some compatibility made possible but no push for the platform.

Microsoft's uwp/windows store and oculus own store ignite competition anyway.

Indeed, this really is an alliance of the 'also rans'.

Although, it makes the most sense for both Companies.

MS needs a VR solution, and it's easier to just partner up with Oculus than spend even more money on an accessory they've no guarantee will significantly increase sales, and Oculus has done a great job of fucking up in the PC space, so getting a foot in the door with consoles, and it's market more used to the walled garden approach, on paper makes strength as a way to strengthen their mindshare.

I still think it's not going to make a damned bit of difference, and that both Companies have a proven track record of consistently fucking up and having no real understanding of their markets or respect for their customers, but it makes total sense for them to throw in together.
