Sony E3 2016 Press Conference: June 13 at 6 PM PT/ 9PM ET

I think 2015 was the first year Sony really "got" what gamers want out of an E3 conference. Very little droning about non-gaming related stuff, and the only thing that was (PlayStation Vue) looked like a great deal (I don't know if it actually is, I'm not in the US).

Expect the trend to continue. They're doing the movie theatre thing again so there's bound to be something for people to be excited about that will no doubt have reaction videos blowing up the internet like FF7R last year. I expect a real push for VR this time around.

I think it'll be prominently featured, but I don't expect them to linger on it too long. My predictions for PlayStation VR:

  • Re-iteration of price, followed by final release date.
  • Montage trailer focusing on launch games.
  • One big new VR game showcase. Probably the Battlefront thing.
  • "Play all of these games and more in our booth."

There's about 10-15 minutes worth of stuff there, but I really don't expect the segment to be any longer. VR is all about showing rather than telling.

Why are people saying Read Dead Redemption 3 in this thread? There is a RDR2 already?

Red Dead Revolver was the first game in the series. Red Dead Redemption was the second game in the series. As much as gamers want to try and split them up and say things like "Red Dead Redemption is it's own series now, it's a spiritual successor, etc", the actual games developer classify's it as the "Red Dead" series, and Redemption is referenced as the second game, even internally file wise on the game, the folders are named "RDR2" for Redemption.

I don't buy into that premise, if a game need to be played in VR just to say it's good, than it's probably only good for the VR novelty/gimmick instead of it being genuinely fun game on it's own.

what Sony need is more games that already looks good even without the VR stuff. I'm really hyped for RIGS, Ace Combat, Summer Lesson and GT sport because even if those games don't have VR, I'm still interested in them

True, but we saw how the demo for PSVR went at PSX - it was a shambles. I think they're better off just showing their lineup and letting the journalists do the rest of the work.

How can you not buy into that premise? VR is about the experience, not the graphics. Of course the presentation amongst other VR games is going to have an impact when viewed on your flat monitor but how can that in any way demonstrate what it's like to be inside that world? You're 'there', not looking at it. Even a simple box in the centre of a Virtual world would create a completely different experience than a 3rd person perspective.

Can you explain why this is important though? The only thing I can gather is he's a gamer that is fan of Rockstar Games but is followed by them and Game Informer on Twitter, I gather because of some past GTAV YouTube vids or coverage? Unless he's like some GTA community version of our shinobi or Verendus. lol

I will say he did link to the official E3 Twitter account and their E3 2016 list of members which includes Rockstar:
https://twitter.com/E3/lists/e3-2016/members

Although that doesn't prove much because Rockstar attend every E3, be it for meetings and whatnot.

Do people really expect R* to announce.

Red dead 3.
Red dead remaster.
Agent.

All at the same time? Nah that's not how R* works.

It'll be RD3 announced for April 2017 and RD:R for winter this year. Agent is dead and buried.

Nah. I expect the next Red Dead and Agent, I don't see a remaster happening.

I don't have problem with the graphics, I still play ps2 games and find some of them looks great. I'm more thinking about the premise/gameplay of the game itself. there's that one VR game I forgot the name, but you're controlling a golem character and move by swaying your body around. the combat in the game looks really boring.

I think what I mean to say is if the gameplay looks bad whether it's shown in VR or not, than it's probably not a good game in the first place. although there are titles that are more about the experience like Sony's underwater demo. that seems like the kind of game that is cool to experience once or twice or show to other people. but not something you'll play more than that.

I can understand what you mean and I've even looked at gameplay and thought it looked uninteresting but I need to experience VR before I label that game 'boring' because I know I can't possibly understand how it 'feels' to play. I watch football matches but I don't know what it's like to be in that stadium. I've seen film of The Grand Canyon but I don't know what it's like to feel the scale of it or look down into it. That's why it is pointless demoing it on stage. People need to put that VR headset on and that's what I'm waiting for when we get closer to launch. Every single person I've seen using VR and have tried to explain what it's like have put forward that premise you're dismissing. It MUST be true and so I wait for a demo to understand completely what they mean.

Interesting how this thread has almost four times the number of pages of the XBox E3 thread. We are SonyGAF, indeed!

On a more serious note, since we got a hype train going on there, perhaps we should have one here too. Or we could go even higher and get a hype plane :p

Well to be fair the Xbox thread was only made last week while this one has been going since the middle of May. lol

I bet misterxmedia is going to have a heyday if the upgraded PS4 is eventually called PS4 Neo. Fortunately, it seems like it will just be a codename and Sony will likely go for a simpler name like they did with the PSVR.

Fair enough. But in my opinion at least, no one can bring the hype like Sony. There is just so much potential in their conferences.

Yan is pretty much a trusted source for confirmations and leaks in the GTA community. He's also good friends with FunMW2 whom is a famous leaker aswell in the GTA community. He also has sources that work at R* NYC. Both have been correct many times, and I can assume have reputable sources. And then theirs the usual Take-Two being at E3 "in a big way.", that Red Dead screenshot leak, R* announcing games soon, and those small hints we've had over the years.

Ok that's cool! I'm familiar with the current leaks, rumors and news but I just didn't know who Yan was and I'd seen him crop recently on Twitter and reddit related to Red Dead news.

Just mentioning this again because this is what Yan said on reddit so whatever his past GTA leaks or news that was correct, can anyone elaborate?

When asked on the source of info for his tweet about Red Dead confirmed to be revealed at E3:
Same place I got all the other infos that turned out to be correct. I know you want an actual source and all, but I really can't.

On a RDR: Remaster and if it'll be for PC:
I know a RDR remaster is in the talks, but no idea if they want to do it for PC.

See this is the one that makes me doubt his source, the newest RAGE build they have is cross platform friendly to the point where a PC version would just be ignoring it out of spite. After RDR, when that custom variant build of RAGE turned into a complete mess, Rockstar San Diego used that extra year out (which at the time was used to push L.A.Noire, a non-RAGE title) to completely revamp RAGE away from it's original Heavily Xbox 360 focus, which made porting to PlayStation and PC (and in future, other platforms) more difficult.

With the new RAGE debuting in Max Payne 3, a PC release (as well as a platform focused release to work to the strengths of a consoles design) has pretty much been a cert. Why was Grand Theft Auto V hit with huge delays? The original PC port of the game was pretty much scrapped when they decided to do a Next Gen build of the game (the PS4/XBO version) which in turn was merged with the remains of the old PC port and ported from consoles to get the current PC build. Plus a lot of the delay internally was just politics.

But it means they'd be insane to work on something and leave out a PC version unless they want to play by the same politics again (deny a PC version until a few weeks/months pass, THEN announce it, get double dippers, etc). The ONLY way a potential RDRedemption remaster couldn't come to PC is if they stick with the code base mess of the original, which, again, if they get it working on PS4/XBO, they HAVE to port it over to the new build, which again, is compatible with PC.

So, it's either NOT happening (which it wasn't when I was last there and in contact) or, it's coming to PC/PS4/XBO, with maybe a politics play involved to "delay" the PC version, deny it exists, until later on.

There's a high chance of a new Red Dead game being shown though, that project has been cooking for years, I'm pretty sure it might actually be "Project Remorse" over at San Diego, unless they were working on another game too.

I totally see Red Dead at MS but still if the rumours of a remaster + new game are true I am as in as you can get.

Starting to think about it more, I think it's probably more likely to be there than at Sony's. Microsoft hasn't had a ton of 3rd party stuff at there press conferences this gen. They have Bethesda, Ubisoft shooters, Assassin's Creed and Battlefield but not much else. Sony has Warner Bros, Activision, Battlefront, Square Enix and everything else from Ubisoft. I can see them paying up to show it at their press conference instead.

Thanks Ash for all the info!

I guess depending on the conversation or questions asked, maybe the PC version of a remaster just wasn't brought up so he doesn't know the answer? It's hard to know for sure without context and that's all he said on the matter unfortunately. I could ask him on Twitter but given I've never really conversed with him before or really knew who he was until this weekend perhaps someone else can?

I know you didn't really say it as such but...Red Dead Remorse has a nice ring to it. ;)

I keep thinking MS conference being a possibility just because of the BC being made available for RDR that Monday. lol Again I thought MS had to have developer permission before they begin testing BC, so then how or why would they dink around with RDR?

Please, most Xbox E3 talk is in the Scorpio thread and that thread blow this one out of water.

Good point, seems like most of the Microsoft fans are more interested in the upgraded hardware than the games themselves. Clearly XB1 has no gamez!! :p

Red Dead Remorse already being mentioned on Twitter. That was quick.

It's nothing, just somebody here or lurking on GAF saw Ash's post and my response and is just musing on Twitter. lol

Still though, I wonder how long it'll take to be the replacement title everyone keeps referring to instead of Red Dead Revengence or whatever. lol

I'm thinking that Sony should take a small loss in making a PSVR/PS4K bundle. $699 for a PS4K and PSVR bundle with 2 move controllers, camera and demo disk. It's still a cheaper barrier of entry than other VR devices but any more and I don't think it has a chance to do well. Being $100+ cheaper than buying them separately would probably get more people to get it as well.

assuming ps4k is $400, a bundle of everything you list at $700 didn't look like a small loss, it actually looks pretty significant loss, about $200 dollar discount compare to the normal retail price, I don't think that's going to happen.

Hoping the conference is like 2 hours long. Sony has a lot to cover (and they're pacing is always pretty serviceable but nothing great). NEO, PSVR, Third-Party demos (CoD, Destiny).

Alternatively, let's hope they throw out some really good stuff in the week up to E3 like last year with UC Collection, Ratchet and so on.

PSVR with 2 move controllers, camera and a $60 retail game is $500, so more around $140 if you remove the game (which is basically a demo disk anyways).

New random ass prediction:

"Days Gone" is a first-person survival game for PSVR where you have to survive by literally looking around for supplies and other useful items. Developed by Sony London!

Sony is going to need to some compelling new VR announcements to keep momentum going and I'd be shocked if London Studio has only been working on PlayStation VR Worlds (essentially VR tech demos) for the past couple of years. They're actually a pretty large studio at about 200-300 people.
