I don't see why the option for Japanese audio is such a big thing.
Most other games manage to give it as an option.

Although this is a company that somehow cannot manage to release its games in Europe without a massive delay. So fuck knows.

It's coming out the week before the long President's Day weekend, so that'll give people in the U.S. some time to really get into it.

Licensing costs, localization effort to implement it as a feature in the game, or maybe simply an intentional choice to respect the work of the localization team? I'm on board with team please-give-us-a-choice, and I doubt this will ever happen, but it would be nice to hear the reason.

There's added licencing costs for one. It's probably also up to Atlus JP and the Japanese VA agency to an extent. I'm sure Atlus USA would love to have dual language in all their games if they could.

Doesn't Atlus JP fear reverse importation? I remember hearing they don't put Japanese audio in the english releases because games are cheaper here. I might be thinking of the P4 anime though, I remember they did that will the blu-rays I think.

About the Morgana pics, I'd guess they were just joking, since Atlus came out pretty fast and said that they weren't going to edit anything and that the boxart was still in development. Still, after what happened with TMS, it's understandable that people were jumpy.

At the very least, Atlus's response pretty much confirms that the drastic editing TMS went through was all Nintendo.

Fearing reverse importation 5 months after the initial release is silly

Yeah, it's not an issue at all considering games in Japan are traded in very quick anyway and you can get it used for cheap soon after release.

P4A had almost simultaneous release and even then it was stupid, I'm sure they won't repeat the same mistake.

If they've never really had dual audio before, I don't really get the anger about this suddenly not having it now. I understand other companies do, but has this one ever before?

For the same reason I won't accept games in 240p anymore. Standards change. It also isn't just "other companies" it's "every other company".

They shouldn't fear reverse importation(it's a stupid fear to begin with) the last time they did and pulled that region lock stunt it backfired. I for one made sure of buying P4A used just because of that and also just told my other friend interested to not bother.

I dunno I will just echo that good service wins(Valve, CDPR), they should think more about why people would even reverse import in the first place instead of being stupid and trying to prevent it straight out.

Like if people do it to save money these people will just more likely save money in another way, like buying used which I assume is even worse.
The other reasons are most likely related to available language. If Japanese people want English VO offer it to them on the local release. Ease of access goes a long way(ITunes, Netflix, etc).

The only reason why reverse importing was such a concern was because Arena not only had dual audio, but dual text, and was launching in America two weeks after the Japanese release. The third won't be happening, and the second likely won't, either. There'll likely be a ton of text that isn't voiced, so it'll be harder to navigate, too.

Yeah, I don't think precedence is much of an argument. Atlus, as a company, needs to compete. To compete, you need to be competitive, and to be competitive, you need to have parity with your competition. There are cases where even Xseed can't get dual audio, like with pretty much every Falcom game, so clearly some barriers are unreasonably high. But so far, Atlus has only offered dual audio for Arena and Ultimax (Ultimax only being partially), and that was mostly for online play.
