Rumor: "Untitled Spiderman PS4 Project" incoming

I hope it's Insomniac games developing it, Sunset Overdrive was just an all out fun game.

Infamous is one of my huge disappointments, one of the few "Superhero games" that seems to try it's BEST to make you feel like the least interesting and least "super-powered" superhero. It just felt like playing an fps game with some flashy traversial mechanics, all the powers in infamous feel like they just took an fps game and slapped some particle effects to them rather then actually giving you fun powers like say, the prototype games.

Spider-man needs to have some fun web-slinging open world action, get in some legit in-depth action combat that has depth to it and I'm all in.

Sigh it could be the best Spider-Man game in years and it will be for a console I will probably never buy, I already have an Xbox One

Well way to shoot down my dreams. Though now that I think about it seriously a Spiderman game with a focus on balancing his daily life and responsibilities as Peter Parker the student and young man as well as stopping crime and fighting super villians as Spidey. Would be really cool if they handled it in like a Persona type manner where you have to choose whether to go investigate a possible drug ring with Daredevil or go deliver some Pizzas to make some cash to go out on a date later that night.
So basically a mix between Spider-man 2 and Persona.
I'm okay with this

Insomniac not first party, they heavily invest on VR games, license game rarely go exclusive, all point to PSVR exclusive Spider-Man VR experience.

Was that ban ever officially or publicly made by Marvel or Disney? I thought that was just a fan theory?

Unless you're talking about the movie/tv rights?

I'm confused.
DeNA (the devs for Marvel Mighty Heroes) confirmed that the ban is in effect, but Marvel never officially confirmed it themselves (& why would they, it would paint an even bigger target on their backs). It's more about Marvel not wanting to promote Fox material.

Blegh... That sucks...

Disney, buy back the X-Men. Thank you.

I don't see Sony putting VR support in any Spider-man with web swinging. It's not like the game needs to that to sell. Hell, with a brand at that level it doesn't even need to be a good game at all, really.

Of course a Spider-Man game doesn't need VR to sell. My comment was on based on how much Sony wants to push its VR and how a Spiderman game would push it. That also means dealing with unknowns and how much of a risk would they take with whichever developer (and I guess technology) on ensuring minimal motion sickness.

They very much could just release a game made by whoever and call it day as the money rolls in.

So basically a mix between Spider-man 2 and Persona.

sheeeeit, all I would need at that point is confirmation of good combat and I'm there day one.

What this game really needs is a feature where every time you take a screenshot in photo mode, J. Jonah Jameson pops up to tell you it's crap.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

I can see it now.

Peter is early to rise so he's out of bed with the sun coming up and first things first, help Aunt May make breakfast and spend some time with or her head into the city early and go grab a quick coffee with MJ or just eat some cold pizza from the night before and work on the cartridges for your web slingers so they hold a bit more.

Next up its time for classes at Columbia and he's of course late no matter which choice he made for breakfast and has to rush there as Spiderman but does he stop and switch gears to join in a car chase between the police and a fleeing bank robber or does he head to school and do some Bully style minigames to determine how he's done in his classes.

In the afternoon its totally up to you what you do. Web sling around the city just enjoying the sights, collecting trinkets and doing Spidey stuff or you can take on more specific missions for friends, other hero's, and so on. Maybe Daredevil needs some help tracking down the Punisher to see if it was him behind a recent bunch of mob murders. Or maybe Black Cat is doing some spy work on the King Pins organization and could use Spidey's help for the aerial view. Or of course maybe you could try and turn in those photos you actually as the player took in a battle between Spidey and the Rhino and try and sell them to JJJ which includes a minigame to sell him on the photos and then haggle for your pay.

That night of course is open to activities like meeting someone for a date, guys included as perhaps Tony Stark wants to pick your brain. Of course something more dramatic could be going down and suddenly lizard people are exploding out of the sewer and the Lizard has taken over Times Square. But I digress, I'm starting to ramble haha.

You've gotten me too excited.

I hope the game that's announced turns out well.

Probably a VR game at this point. Why would Insomniac go from wanting to own their IPs back to making games for others? Ratchet & Clank makes sense, but Spider-Man of all things?

Sony/Marvel threw a boatload of money at them?

And why would Marvel not do business directly with Insomniac then instead of having Sony being the middle man?

Some deal with Sony over the movie rights? I'm not really sure how that all works but maybe Sony had first dibs on a game or is offering to co produce as Disney has shown its not as invested in making large AAA style games with their properties, hell they just killed Disney Infinity.

Yeah I think Sony getting the rights to make a PS4 Spider-Man game as part of the movie negotiations would make a lot of sense.

Marvel probably has nothing to do with this, but Ted Price isn't an idiot. He'd do this for the same reason Platiunum makes 80s cartoon garbage - It pays the bills.

And that's before even factoring in how much money Sony puts into this.

Maybe Sony got the rights to publish this game as part of giving control of spider man movies back to marvelife? Who knows. The sucker punch spider man open world game is one pipe dream I want to be true.

Super interested in seeing what comes of this. A big-budget Spidey game by a good studio that's not a tie-in to a movie could be something special.

All these posts are hyping up the Spider-man fanboy in me.

I just hope it turns out to be (at the very least) better than Spider-man 2 from the PS2 days.
Nail the swinging mechanic, give us proper combat (not the clunky mess of the Amazing Spider-man games) and a living, breathing NY with an abundance of side activities that actually are meaningful and not repetitive.

Also, REALLY hope Sucker Punch is the one developing it. inFAMOUS 2 is still one of my favorite superhero games.

PS - First GAF post after trying to get in for years! YESSSSSS!

Now you guys have me imagining a game in which you have to raise your S-Links after school with the Punisher, and have to take him to the movies on the weekend.

Lol, EZ PZ. Its mostly doable, but the "living, breathing NY" part would make the budget skyrocket. Focus on the traversal, combat and quests and the rest is gravy.

Agreed. I just don't want the world to be dull, like how it was in Second Son. It felt lifeless.

If they do this, I want a really epic story with some goddamned pathos. I mean, yeah, quips and shit, but Spider-Man can also bring on the pathos.

Probably depend on who's writing it. There are some of the comic writers who could probably do that, though if they tapped current writer Dan Slott I wouldn't expect too much from the story.

If Slott writes it, I will just die.

Not in a good way either.

Dan wrote the story behind shattered dimensions and that one was pretty good

The more I think about this the more I think that this could easily be the game of E3 for me (if it's real).

It wasn't that long ago that I made a thread asking if we'd ever see a good Spider-Man game again (the general consensus was that no we would not).

If this is real and actually looks good, then it'll be the game I'm most excited for this generation so far.

Can anyone bring me up to date on why people seem to believe that Insomniac is working on this? What triggered the rumor?
