Sekai Project and Limited Run Games Are Teaming Up To Bring Visual Novels and Japanese Indies to Western Hands

LOS ANGELES – June 12, 2016 – Leading Visual Novel and Japanese independent games publisher Sekai Project is officially teaming up with the North Carolina based Mighty Rabbit Studios and their subsidiary Limited Run Games to bring some of Japan's hottest titles in both digital and physical form to the PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®Vita.

Through this partnership, Mighty Rabbit Studios will assist Sekai Project in porting over many titles from their acclaimed library. Each title will undergo extensive development to ensure the best possible product for the PlayStation platforms.

Limited Run Games will be bringing Sekai Project's console and handheld titles to consumer hands through their unique and incredibly popular service of physical copies sold online. This will, as their name suggest, be available in a limited run and bring true Japanese gaming to their ever increasing line-up of incredible collectors edition games.

"We are thrilled to finally be working officially with Mighty Rabbit Studios and Limited Run Games to bring many of our games to the PlayStation platforms. I have been getting emails about Limited Run Games for almost a year now from passionate fans from around the world wanting to get their favorite visual novel in limited physical form.

Since our very first talks with Mighty Rabbit Studios, we knew immediately what it feels like when doves cry, and it felt heavenly. Our companies' philosophies of bringing fun, excitement and adventure to people around the world merged instantly, and we couldn't have found a better partner to bring our games to the PlayStation platforms."

- Audi Sorlie, Sekai Project

"Mighty Rabbit Studios is crazy excited to be helping Sekai Project's titles over to the PlayStation platforms. We're hopeful that this will be the beginning of a long partnership that will bring even more of their awesome games to consoles and handhelds.

Additionally, we're really stoked about the potential of bringing out physical editions of all of these games through Limited Run Games! The next year should be an exciting one for Sekai Project fans!"

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Just saw them announce this briefly on their E3 Digital Event stream. Nice to have the full info.

Has no PEINS
They said (one of?) the games was their most-requested collaboration... Any ideas based on that? Never heard of Sekai

Well hopefully this means SP will actually release games that they promised for the Vita. I mean, we never even got Fault Milestone One yet.

We're working with @sekaiproject to bring Ren'Py to Unity, and by extension every console under the sun (Vita, PS4, Xbox, Wii U, 3DS).

Guess this is one of the main things they're working on trying to do. It's an engine (?) it looks like.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Sekai Project published Clannad right? Hope it's Clannad.

I backed Clannad on KS and already probably won't be playing more than the side stories (I played it years ago and so backing it was mainly to get that English limited edition and support them bringing over the Key games I hadn't played in the process), so if it's Clannad that's getting the focus I'd feel a little conflicted. I also don't think that's the type of thing that'd be important for Sony anyway? I'd see something more focused on mystery/sci-fi being more likely for that.

The real question here is,

Will they all be in limited quantities???

Quite possibly...
This will, as their name suggest, be available in a limited run and bring true Japanese gaming to their ever increasing line-up of incredible collectors edition games.

Edit: On a side note, I dug through the list of Sekai Project's older games, and it's like 90% of the stuff my wife and I bought during the Steam Golden Week sale and haven't touched yet because neither of us game on PC much. E3's already starting out well for me. :)

For people who don't know LRG, the games they sell only have one print run of a fixed quantity (so far 2000-5000 copies) and are sold exclusively through their website. They never get reprints.

That won't affect digital versions, obviously.

Might as well ask here since it's a more appropriate place:

So, can anyone explain this to me:

They're porting an engline (Ren'Py) into an Engine (Unity)? Or am I misunderstanding something?

Which of Sekai's VN's run on Ren'Py?

Also, I hope Clannad is among them like I've said in the other thread. I'm only going off VNDB's top rated list for recommendations, but that seems pretty well regarded.

But if it's not running of Ren'Py, then I could do with knowing what is!

The Ren'Py thing is actually pretty huge. It'll be good for Sekai but if they let anyone use that port, it also means anyone making a VN can hit all those platforms much more easily now.

Long Live The Queen and The Royal Trap on the Vita would be pretty great.

This brief conversation has a little clarification on what they're actually doing. Seems like it'd still require a non-trivial amount of work to port a game, but that's still pretty significant.

I will try to buy digital whenever possible. But this is exciting news!

In retrospect: that "Soon" tweet was about the games they launched today. Are we sure that their stream the other day said the announcement was today?

Yes, they explicitly said Sony of America would announce it. But there was nothing about the press conference.
