Days Gone (Sony Bend, UE4) - E3 2016 Gameplay Walkthrough

There should be more tampons in gaming
When did they seem dangerous? The guy kept stopping for no reason and never got hurt.

There were plenty of close calls, they caught up to him numerous times and there were periods where he was reloading and would've taken damage if the damage was turned on or he didn't have infinite ammo. Plus visually, they did look very dangerous.

Wouldn't mind some kind of co-op action to be honest. I'm kinda surprised they didn't go more in that direction like Dead Rising and State of Decay to get that kind of zombie game on their platform. Maybe they will and we just haven't seen that part of the game yet.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
I feel like this is gonna get tiring and repetitive after the 3rd zombie encounter if the whole game is built mostly with this mechanic

Lol I honestly thought this was some kind of TLoU related thing till I realized the zombies weren't all fungus'd up... multiple parts of the trailer reminded me of several locations from TLoU.

This didn't really grab my attention otherwise though.

Couldn't you apply that line of thinking to Uncharted or nearly any first person shooter? Who judges a game by what it does differently as opposed to how fun it is to play/your enjoyment?

Uncharted did more interesting things in last years show then days gone seems to be doing

This really does look like yet another zombie game with hordes as its hook. Even though we did hordes back in 2005

This literally looks like walmarts take on last of us

I still can't believe Sony ended their conference on The Last of Us: Horde Mode, complete with the least threatening zombies to ever feature in a video game.

There was a lot that impressed me during that show, but man, Sony Bend have dropped the ball based on what I've seen so far. It just looks so formulaic and devoid of an identity of its own. Zombies, open world/sandbox setting and a super dramatic story based around survival. It's so safe.

Amazing game, one of the best surprises of the night. We still don't know about the developer right? I totally expected it being a Naughty Dog game.

I second the horde not looking threatening. Especially that part where he just ran right through them without a scratch.

It is the guys that made Ucharted: Golden Abyss.

Damage was obviously turned off or it was just for the demo. You can tell the game still has a lot of work left.

Uncharted was seen as a cheap answer to Gears of War when it was released and people criticized it's gimmic-y motion controls and the shooting. It wasn't until U2 that people took notice of the game because it was basically turned into an action movie. We've seen 10 mins of footage, I personally don't think it's a justifiable amount of time to write a game off as generic but that's where our opinions differ and you're entitled to yours.

I got a walking dead vibe and was really pleased by what I saw.

We do have reason to be confident, but to worry as well. The last sony bend that scored less than 80 on MC was in 2004....but that was also their last console game.

If this game is good, I'm ok with ND working on a new IP before getting to work on TLOU2, to be honest.

I second the horde not looking threatening. Especially that part where he just ran right through them without a scratch.

Probably GOD mode.

Just watched sony bend talking about this game in Geoff youtube show.

Keys points I got from the video:
* Game is heavily story focused single player only Action/Adventure survival game experience like of Last of Us in some ways
* Bike (focuses on bike culture) is really important in the game and he never leaves which is crafted and built by the player
* Set in Pacific High desert harsh volcanic place with caves etc,,
* Open world sandbox style game that can be fully explorable
* Has Dynamic day/night cycle and weather system
* Has RPG (crafting) elements and changes gameplay based on that, so player needs to understand the tools and environment
* World is dangerous compared to other zombie games out there as they say zombies try to kill everything that moves especially at night
* Game has been in development for 3+ years, but still its in early development as they just only finished core mechanics/ideas of the game and not ready yet

Everything sounds great to me.

Sony already had the best zombie game in the industry, I'm not sure why they felt they needed another zombie game. It's a different kind of game but it appeals to same audience in the end.

oh and that old title is so awful alright.

Same reason we got infamous 3, kill zone 5, uncharted 4, and God of war 6. Can't do anything new at all

Looked pretty good aside from some stuff. The thing that bugged me the most is the red explosive barrels. It's 2016 devs. Can we please let that game mechanic die.

*They also mentioned they put a lot of dynamic triggers in it on the micro and macro level, where as, what you may experience, your friends can be having a totally different experience playing the game. A truly dynamic sandbox or to that effect.

Said there would be an extended demo about 5 minutes longer showing variables.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Kind of feels like a pointless game. I mean it looks good and the gameplay looks fine but I'm not seeing anything new or original.

While I get this sentiment to some extent its hardly like we've gotten a zombie game of this scale, spectacle, graphical power, and yes, design. The Last of Us doesn't really do much that is new or different and its one of the most loved games on here. I think this has potential, real potential, to have some amazing gameplay scenarios, especially if its a sandbox.

Based on that gameplay video, I have a feeling that a big part of the gameplay is going to center around controlling the flow and mass of the zombies. As in, thinking of them almost as moving water or as one giant creature.

Notice how he closes the conveyor belt gate and the zombies bunch up buying him a few extra seconds to run. This would be an interesting mechanic if that is actually how some of the gameplay is being designed.

Now im getting excited, love the dynamic triggers. I remember how when i played Rift i was hooked on the Random world or local events that spawned everywhere, now with Zombies this is going to rock.

Uncharted 1 wasnt a very good game. I think 10 minutes is a good idea and esicpally since we have this

The decade of zombies. Granted, I love end of the world books, movies and games, but I'm getting close to needing a break from zombie apocalypse.

Will play this probably though. :)

I have a feeling this game has been in the works for a long, long time. I don't really understand why you'd push this when you already have The Last of Us. Maybe it'll end up being a different kind of thing, but man, that looked a little too close to an already established IP by the same publisher...just weird.

They are still in early stages of the development and gameplay is not quite ready yet. Just read the points I mentioned above which the developer said. E3 demos is just an early one just meant to show that its dangerous out there with that flow of zombies and not actual representation of their vision totally.

Sounds great and all but... Why did they demo a game which has, according to them, only just figured out what the gameplay is? If the game "isn't ready yet" just show the trailer and save gameplay for some other time.

Too show off the horde I think which looks really good.
I thought it was cool as well but it seems strange to me to try and demo a game that apparently isn't far along in terms of gameplay. Seems like it would have been better to save the gameplay reveal for PSX or something.

Again, I liked what I saw.

This looks and plays far better than most early state games we see. Is this an alpha? Pre alpha? If so count me impressed.

Pretty safe bet Neo and associated tech demos were intended to be the closer, but Scorpio spooked them bad. Show ended abruptly and was much shorter than usual. Would you want to announce a new console half as powerful in back to back conferences? Especially when doing the exact opposite is widely credited with a majority of PS4's success.

It does leave me highly interested in seeing the game in a far more completed state (again, going by what Bend has said). Could really be something!

isn't there just 1 AAA zombie game currently on the ps4?

It's not like we are swimming in them, so I dont understand the hate.

+ ive never seen a horde so dense like that before, and them running after you like that.

Will be a tense game.

And apparently they will appear randomly so you will always be on edge.

When did they seem dangerous? The guy kept stopping for no reason and never got hurt.

It's actually the same problem that Dead Rising has, if they let the zombies have unlimited ability to grab you, your game would be over super quick. So the zombies "miss" you a LOT just so you have a chance to stay alive and play the game.
