Death Stranding Announced: A Kojima Productions Game

SargerusBR

I love Pokken!
You know, i'm becoming convinced that this is another Phantom Pain kinda situation. The actual game will more than likely be completely different than this teaser.

I never played a kojima game, but going from the reactions in this thread I assume this game is not a commentary about pollution as I initially thought?

Well Kojima has always had political themes in his games. A big theme of Metal Gear is essentially "nukes bad." So pollution might be a major theme in this game, but it won't be the focus like walking around cleaning beaches or something. Its going to be an action game.

Kojima should team up with Anno and make an Evangelion game, imagine the fuckery that would unleash. Though I feel like those two would butt heads over whose crazy ideas to use.

You mean the entire game wont be about a naked man surrounded by beached whales?

I am going to go contrary and say that is exactly what this will be. It's actually going to be about a guy who is haunted by his past in the brutal world of professional fishing. He carries usb drives around his neck containing the photos of every fish he caught. But he never made the elusive ultimate catch.

Wait.... So it's just Moby Dick? Kojima is always chasing that white whale......

Even though I hate CG trailers (Although I completely see Kojima hitting the fidelity of the target render, he always delivers) this look so intriguing that I want to watch it again and again.

Playable teaser incoming, reveals actual game title to be Silent Gills

Hitori Nojima is a mysterious writer who has only ever written novelizations of MGS games. He wrote the novels for MGS, MGS2, Peace Walker and Phantom Pain. Nothing else. There are only text interviews with said person. While he has denied it, I think most people believe it is Hideo Kojima himself, or a ghostwriter working under his direction.

His identity isn't secret anymore.

I think I understood which feelings Kojima wanted to pass on with this trailer. Full of Konami and his past creation references.

1 - The footprints are set on the ground and then erased. Like all the efforts Kojima offered to Konami.

2 - Reedus is naked, representing the shame Kojima was exposed to in his last days working for Konami.

3 - The broken shackles are the bound between him and the company being destroyed.

4 - The baby represents his suddenly lost creation (Metal Gear), and Reedus cries of pain and sorrow depicting Kojima's suffering.

5 - The hand marks on the body and the ink in Reedus depicts the weight of having a great successful game series on his name.

6 - The swamps shows that will be a dire path to establish another blockbuster.

7 - The crabs are other developers that never made such greatness as his.

Somewhat I felt soul connected to Kojima. It was strange.

8. The 6 pendants around Norman Reedus' neck hints that he's the embodiment of what would've been the 6th MGS canonical game. Because he cut ties with Konami (handcuff), he's able to let loose.

9. The 5 phantoms floating before him represents the last 5 Metal Gear games, the ghosts of Kojima's past.

Also that song in the trailer is amazing.

Thought it was the new Local Natives stuff for a second lol

More like this scene will be a dream/hallucination sequence in the actual game.

I hope KojiPro goes full surreal fantasy horror. MGS flirted with that stuff often, but always had to tie it back somehow to a relatively realistic military setting.

Omfg yess give this to me. Loved it! It's so mysterious and strange, why are there so many dead sea animals, why is Reedus naked. Hyped for this game

Hey, Microsoft, if you want to cash in on surreal naked dude on a beach money, hire Andrew Lincoln and I'll be there day one.

I'll also buy the collector's edition if the trailer ends with CAAAAAAAAAARL.

I just finished watching the Sony presser from last night (because you know, living in Europe and all). That introduction with Kojima was just sick. I loved it. Also the art of this game... How is that even possible? These posters look a thousand times better than good looking movie posters.

This was such a wonderful surprise in an already incredible conference. Kojima's entrance, the reaction, this completely batshit trailer.

I love this man. My life would be lesser if not for his presence in it.

Nah. Probably on one of Sony's engines. Using FOX would invite Konami to pummel Kojima even more.

You know what? Sony really needs a heavy duty engine like the ones used by their worldwide studios, one that they can share with big developers making first party games for them who don't want to use UE4 and the likes of it.

The trailer is amazing as a videoclip or short film, but I'm questionning how far the actual game will stray from this. I'm hoping they keep all the weirdness and "David-Lynch-movie" feels I got watching it... but when you put the prologue of MGS V and the actual game together, it's a really different mood and experience in the end.

Still, he's alone at the helm this time so no excuses to stray from his promises, make a weird game Kojima, go all the way !
