God Of War E3 2016 trailer gameplay, not open world, all Kratos, 2017

I'm pretty sure what we were shown is the tutorial section of the game. The actual main character will be the child, but Kratos acts as the tutor for both the child and the individual playing the game.

As somebody who was dead set against Kratos returning, at least as the main protagonist, I really like what they've done with him here. They haven't remade him as a completely different character but he isn't just a retread.

I'm going to guess that the boy is his biological son, but Kratos hasn't been around much because of the guilt over what happened to his first family.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.

Sony Santa Monica confirmed that you play as Kratos, he is the main character.

oh i like this theory and maybe
the loss of father is the reasons for going after the gods

Despite the use of 'father' I'm not convinced this is Kratos' actual son. Maybe he helped raise him and knew his mother, but I don't think it's exactly what it looks like.

Gona have a disagree with you there...

I'm thinking Kratos is going to have to have a reason to want to kill the whole Norse pantheon so... I dont think they will kill off the kid and Barlog said you play as Kratos the ENTIRE game so my guess is the kid has special powers, those tattoos probably mean something... Odin kidnaps him to turn him into some crazy Norse demi-god and kills Kratos in the process. Then Kratos goes to Hel and has to fight his way out killing Hel in the process. (Hel is the name of the Norse underworld and the name of the being watching over Hel) Then when he is free his son is old and evil and works for Odin, Odin sends him after you and you kill him not knowing it was your son cuz he is all older and shit then you rage the fuck out and kill everyone... lol

The Norse Gods probably came in to clean up the mess Kratos did after he killed all the Greek Gods. So they're just replacing the roles Greek Gods had. They bring new culture to the world and Kratos is fine with them so he leaves it to them.

The Kid is clearly a companion AI throughout the game, when the kid found footprints the sign for tracking skill exp went up. So it's clear that the kid is Pokemon and Kratos is training him throughout the entire game.

I thought this at first as well, but it's confirmed not to be the case. Developers have used deceptive tactics before, obviously MGS2 being the prime example of hiding who we were really playing out, but I don't think they would straight out lie to their entire fanbase and pull a switcheroo of that magnitude.

I don't think so either, it seems like he's more of a direct mentor and caretaker. Could be wrong, but the way he was interacting with the kid made it seem more like he's not his direct parent.

Maybe showing all that leveling the kid up was just bait and he is only with you for the first few chapters.

I think SSM took a very good approach between those who wanted Kratos and a new protag.

Sure Kratos is back, but at least he appears to have way more depth to him (as a result of experiences in GoW 1-3) than before, I'm saying that as someone who enjoyed pissed off Kratos a lot haha.

Did they happen to explain why you "discover" new areas in a game that's not open world? What would be the point if it's totally linear?

New Kratos kind of reminds me of a heavily bearded Ray Stevenson, I'm perfectly ok with that...13!!! 13!!!

I honestly just think he's being more of a hard lined dad in the vain of one of those dads from Game of Thrones, like Tywin for example. He wanted to touch the kid at the end, but didn't because it's not one of those "tough love" sentiments.

I'm (pleasantly) surprised it's not an open world game because I got the feeling it was at the end of the footage. Do we know how the game's world progression works then? Any comparisons?

I am going to assume this will be like Tomb Raider, or Uncharted etc. You will play through a level, which will be somewhat open in how you complete that level. There will be cutscenes that move you on to a new area and you will pick up control and play through a new area.

So definitely not open world, like they stated, but levels, each with a somewhat open design. Seems like most non open world games are trying to have each "level" be somewhat open in how you complete it, but its not go anywhere do anything at anytime open world.

Cory's playing you like a fiddle.

I would totally be okay with the child being:

giphy.gif

And the series goes on to let us play as him.

Lovin it. The new perspective and Norse sound like all vvery positive directions to me.
And yeah its not God of War without Kratos so thanks for not pulling some DMC bullshit

So I cant be disappointed by a genre shift into something we've already gotten recently?
I can understand where you're coming from. I dont mind the slower heavy axe in the demo. Kratos still looks like he has moves the way he jumps off that rock and flying elbows the troll in the head (which was fucking awesome).
My guess is it follows the same formula as the other games and every time you kill a god or demi-god, you get their weapon. I think you may get more flashy weapons in the game. That Ice smash he does with the axe looks like its a slower more powerful weapon like Hercules Lion head gauntlets from GOW3.

It also really suits the look he has right now. A big stong bearded axe wielding maniac. Its a good look.

Which I get, its just kind of jarring is all. I dont mind the new setting or pantheon at all. I just hope combat gets faster and has wide combo variety.

Hey hey people
Remember all those leaks about GOW4? It doesn't even mention a kid and we only see Kratos
Chillax, Shinobi is playing you like a damn fiddle.

I'll add that that's gonna be my most disappointing game ever if it doesn't end up being a rage-filled-revenge-god-killing-fest

What I think is going to happen is that Kratos or his son are going to make a huge mistake that will anger the gods and they will want to punish the kid by killing him but Kratos is going to be like:

Kratos: NO! I take the blame, take me instead and let the boy live.
Odin: Hahaha, I will make the boy suffer and you can't do anything about it! Muhahahaha
Son: Daddy, help me!
Kratos: Nooooooooooooooo!
Odin kills Kratos' son
Kratos: I will kill every last one of you!
*MAXIMUM RAGE*
*Que epic God of War music*

Or something like that. Another family lost, another reason to go on a godslaying killing spree.

Really hope they don't do that, it would be the most boring thing ever.

I hope this is a story that has nothing to do with revenge and everything to do with controlling ones rage.

Lol. I can see it happening. I want to see a little more of the game before I start taking bets though.

didn't the balrog say the kratos-child relation was inspired by himself getting a son? What kind of madness would it be to kill the ingame child off if that's the case lol
