Was getting caught part of your plan?
If there's one thing I hope they don't drop from what people consider 'traditional' RE is the macabre creature design.

Because seriously, I'd be terrified of this shit in FPS/VR.

If with this teaser/demo of RE7 Capcom tries to pull something like PT, with a trailer reveal of the real RE7 game in the end for the few that will solve its puzzles, then I am ok with it, the demo has good atmosphere and a few good jump scares.

If this is the path they choose to go for the full RE7 game I will be very disappointed.

If they wanted to experiment with a VR game release they should called it RE:VR or maybe something else, new IP or a spinoff.

The graphics and the production values feel like last gen for this to be the main RE7 game.

I imagine that all the old fans of the franchise (and the new generation of players that learned about the RE series through the remasters) are expecting something very different.

It's valid to criticize a game like this for having a B tier story... but it ignores that the B tier story of the earlier games in the series wasn't a design decision either. So... yeah. And 'campy action horror' isn't what the series has always been known for.

But B tier stories? That's been pretty consistent throughout the whole franchise.

So yes... a valid complaint... but not one that says anything specific about RE7 really.

Again, prior to RE4 we didn't play these games because the writing and game mechanics were good. I'm not disappointed that the mechanics are different and the writing is still B tier.

The point i was making is that the low quality story ruins the horror, at least for me. If the main draw with this turn to a first person aesthetic is being scared, the shitty story will ruin this for me.

Still can't get over how bad this looks to me. I wanted RE to go back to horror but this is almost a real life nightmare scenario. Do this shit as a spinoff or something. I don't want to play as a John Doe#034. I wonder if they did it like this because it's cheaper. If it's just a hide and seek game then there won't be a lot of mechanics to implement and balance with encounters etc. that would cost a lot more money. I guess I'm just really salty about this. I feel like I already have my fill with this type of first person horror games.

Seems very likely.

Their Panta Rhei troubles probably played a big factor into the shift towards going the Kitchen route too. Even though they're still working on that engine, apparently.

Yeah, I guarantee that the RE7 budget doesn't even come close to 6

It does seem oddly un-RE, even considering it's a completely new direction. I'm looking forward to it though, I'll take it over another awful generic bro-shooter fest like 6.

I'm ImDest from Twitch last night. I'm at work right now trying to figure things out on paper, but assuming things haven't progressed by the time I get home tonight, I'll start it up again. I'll post notes around 6:00 PM EST. Stream around 5:30. There's almost certainly something here.

Just finished the demo.
I'm really happy that horror is back =)
The game is very PT-esque, a bit less scary comparing the two demos but with typical RE elements like secret passages :p
It will be interesting to see how much they're keeping under wraps.
It looks really good and seems to be running at 60 fps to me, I don't know if this has been confirmed.

Yay. came to read impressions. I'm happy to hear this.

While I do really like what I've played, it just doesn't hold a candle to P.T. I got a feeling Silent Hills would've been the stuff of legend. Oh, well this is better than nothing.

Apparently I didn't beat it, lol

I found the key after watching the tape and seeing the zombie, revealing the crawl space and fireplace handle. Then I went outside and was handcuffed, shit happened and it was over.

But you can open the crawlspace before tape. And you can make a phonecall?

Was handcuffed? We all just get punched doing that, no handcuffs. Shit happened?

Well I'm at a loss. Got the key, the axe, but can't seem to go anywhere else since both areas you can go seem to trigger the ending.

I'm probably missing something.
