I'm going to go out on a limb and say, this is a trick.
I think Sony is fucking with us.
I think it's going to be called..

The Last of Us: Days Gone
Multiplayer Survival Sandbox, set in The Last of Us universe.

The thing is that... in The Last of Us universe, it is not a virus that infected and decimated the population. It is a special breed of mushrooms called the Cordyceps.

Is this game only singleplayer? I thought this was suppose to be open world and multiplayer.

The game was just officially announced as of last night. I think it would be a good thing for us if we could this game and the team working on it a little bit of time to share its info.

I agree. I am wondering if they have released that information already since there is a 2nd walkthrough video out that may have more detail.

Do we know if Bend will be on the E3 floor taking interviews?

Yah... I had no interest in the game until I saw the fast moving zombie horde... I'm shocked they pulled that off. On a technical level it is pretty amazing. How they jammed up and poured through narrow doors... almost like a liquid. It was incredibly frightening to just watch the player being chased by them.

I'm not sure how fun it will be overall, but this mechanic really makes this game stand out as special.

I thought that really provided a lot of tension. I am going to assume most of the time, you are just going to have to run from those things, or hid, or lock yourself in something till they disperse.

I said it was my game of the show. Not based entirely on the gameplay itself, but I found myself imagining what the game could be. So the potential is really there.

Now we need to find out if it is Single player or Co-Op or online or what. They way they talked about the main character, I think it may just be an open world single player game.

Wow what? The teaser trailer showing story looked great, and the engine is impressive. I think they just chose the wrong game to end the conference on (how about an indie montage and gravity rush 2, Sony?!)

3+ years and they're still only in early development. Crazy.

I'm excited for this. Really looking forward to it as an open world, survival game with zombies. LOVED seeing that horde.

Yeah it's base of a real Fungus infection (hence Virus) that affect incests, with the concept of "What If" it is spead to Humans.
And with that, comes evolution of Mutation because of it affecting Man.
And probably why Ellie was immune, as she would've been born into that world and maybe something changed for her and she could've been the first. Her case could be the first.

(and that could go either way)

Don't spoil my fantasy to interlink the two, this could work, lol

This looked really neat but everyone around us in the theater was saying "How is this not The Last of Us: Days Gone????"

It looks exactly like The Last of Us. They even used a big metal garage door to stop the horde at one point. Sure, the zombies were different, but I can see some explanation for that. A mutation, etc.

If this ISNT set in the same universe, how can the studio not see that their game looks exactly like the biggest thing to hit PlayStation in recent years?

I thought the game looks like it could be really good. Wonder how much 'destruction' there will be as far as environments. Like when he was killing them on the bridge the bridge got heavy and started to fall.

Just repeating what I said in the other less populated Days Gone thread, but not sure why so many people are down on this game.

Open world TLOU? With Bikes and (hopefully) a very large area to roam?

Pretty much a dream game right there, and with World War Z type zombie horde to boot.

Now this comes with a big caveat which made TLOU the masterpiece that it is instead of just another post apoc zombie game: story & writing.
If they nail that, with the gameplay and visuals we saw? We have a great game in the making imo.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

They have a vision and want to follow it? The Last of Us sold gang busters and is a huge hit and they want to try and do that but with an open world?

This game had me till the point of the zombie army. Dumb

it's even more ridiculous when you factor in that 2 minutes before the guy is using environmental resources to create a suppressor for his gun

How does that make it more ridiculous? It shows crafting is possible, and makes you assume that ennemies other than hordes of zombies is a possibility too.

If they could up the environmental cues, improve zombie physics (like let them stack on top of each other, creating walls, barriers, ramps), improve survival intensity and gunplay, I'm in.

No problems with the concept over here.

Loved the zombies, thought the shooting looked & sounded terrible but i'll give them the benefit of the doubt due to it being an early e3 demo.

If this has some decent survival elements, good scavenging, base building, some small town/city like areas & co op I could really get into this game with hordes like that... provided they're not just at certain scripted mission points. Despite the rampant amounts of zombie games out there I still don't feel like a survival one has been done properly yet, state of decay & early dayz came the closest.

I've always wanted a similar game to the last of us but open world with survival elements so this could be perfect.

it's not a virus, it's a fungus.

They would have officially called it a split off if it was the same universe, and I wouldn't be shocked if there was an initial plan to do it but Naughty Dog said no due to the tonal shifts and gameplay choices they wanted to do.

Disagree with that, he was mowing down hundreds of them.
He was reloading but it looked like AI was toned down and he was in a god mode state. I would wait for a real hands on non stage demo to critique mechanics. I think Sony bend will nail this though, they are obviously more aware than us of what TLOU accomplished.

How is everyone saying this game looks incredible? Besides the very cool horde AI, we didn't really see anything. What type of game is it? We don't know. Is it open world? It isn't made with the Naughty Dog engine. It is a heavily modified UE4.

I think it looked cool and maybe has some potential, but I haven't seen anything worth getting remotely hyped yet. Not to say I won't get hyped when more is released at the Playstation Experience.

it has zombies (they're in the OPs video link)

and thats when i lost all interest. I can't wait for this walking dead stuff to end

Why? It's not like there aren't any other types of games out there. I don't get this"I don't like it, then it shouldn't be" type of attitude. No one is forced to play a game they don't want.

Its been confirmed that its open world and that you would use the environment to slow down hordes of enemies.

As someone else pointed out, the way they chase you is like World War Z type of intensity.

Edge of your seat type stuff. The game looks amazing.

Yeah that is a good point about why it was enjoyable.

Yea, everything was fine until the WorldWarZ mob came running in to the scene...
They have alot of work to convince me to pick this up, but they have time.

Yeah its like saying I don't like games that have shooting because there are too many of them. That they should stop making them.

There's a reason why their are different games that cater to different audiences.

I think this game looked absolutely beautiful and the tech seems mad impressive... but fuck, more of this "zombie apocalypse" stuff?!

I have no desire to pick this up. I'm burned out unfortunately.

Am i the only one?

I assume this has been posted, but the Devs of Days Gone just sat down with RoosterTeeth and they are talking all about the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbyCHplt0no

Since Rooster Teeth is broadcasting live, just click the link, rewind the video about 30-45 minutes, they are really breaking it down.

* Studio is about 100 people, was around 40 - 50 for Uncharted Vita.

* Game is PS4 Exclusive, no PC mode "We are Sony Bend, we are PS4 Exclusive" lol. At Sony Bend, they make it very clear during interview, everyone wears a lot of hats. Many people are involved in different aspects.

* One thing I picked up is you ride a special bike, called a Drifter, that can drive off road, they said lots of off roading since the roads are all broken up, "Broken Roads." The bike is needed to survive, it is like its own character. It has saddle bags that holds your inventory. The bike is grounded, you will need to "know where it is and manage it" Several devs are bikers, lots of research into the bike. Actually got it up on rollers to make sure they got the sound of the bike right.

* Also, weather has a big effect on traveling and how the bike handles.

* No Multiplayer at all, focusing on their strengths, single player story.

* Demo was a bounty hunting mission, hunting down a biker "2 Dog" and tried to show the danger of leaving the safety of encampments.

* Wanted the game to be a big sandbox of what you would do when "shit goes down."

* Weapons crafting system, they call a "MacGuyver Mentality" where the you figure out clever ways to build tools to get out of situations.

* Their demo they are showing off on show floor has "millions" of ways to play that demo, depending on what tools you bring with you. The environment also plays a huge role in how you deal with certain situations.

* Takes place just a few years after the "apocolypse" event. Society is starting to try to rebuild, as supplies are starting to run out. Made it sound like part of the game is figuring out what to do with the resources you find.

* Wildlife is in the game, they have a "huge" wildlife system they aren't going to talk much about right now. But the event didn't wipe out all wildlife.

* Not willing to talk yet about different story paths, different endings, etc. They chuckled but they dont want to talk about it yet.

* Zombie hoard was all real, no LOD tricks, there are that many people on the screen.

* No release date or time window. They aren't wanting to do that right now.

* It was huge for their studio to be right up there on stage, getting prime focus, along with all of Sony's other big studios. It showed them how much Sony believes in their product. It meant a lot to them.

And thats it! Loved listening to that.

Yup sounds very different from TLOU. As long as they make the shooting more visceral and the demo was just on god mode with the unlimited ammo, looks like we have another hit for ps4...

I was burned out when TLOU hit, but it's one of my favorite games of all time. Generic settings does not mean a fantastic story can't be told. And this seems to be going in a different direction gameplay wise with the bikes, weather, and open world being a lot more important.

I am loving what I'm reading, I wish that video showing different areas was still up though. Still, I can't believe that there are only 100 people at Bend, the game looks massive.

Anyway it's already preordered lol.

Oh man,

That interview is pretty hype personally.

I had such a hard-on for the moments in The Last of Us that were just Ellie and Joel travelling through the city in a truck or a car. Just that solemn, trudging yet hopeful journey. I wished it was a bigger part of the game, I would have loved a sequence where you simply drove for 20 minutes experiencing the scenery and the sense of space.

Days Gone potentially revolving around the relationship someone in that situation has with their mode of transport is ultra compelling to me and we haven't had much like it in the past. I mean if it's done right that Survival Bike should be his modern counterpart in that same horse/rider relationship we get from something like Shadow of the Colossus or Witcher III.

And by the sounds of their team having a biker contingent and the looks of both the bikes in the trailer they definitely dove deep on the details there.

Fingers crossed. I really loved aspects of the Syphon Filter games and Vita Uncharted is no where near appreciated enough.
