Omg that kid with the upside down shades... I'm hunched over in tears at my desk...

OT: Looks beautiful. One day I pledge to buy an NX and play this with my first born.

By the way, is there any news on NX region locking or backwards compatibility?

No i don't.
I'm criticizing the visual rendition of the over-map, and you're telling me "but the combat is fun".
The hell does that mean?

It's like if you said that the combat in Dragon's Dogma was good, and i said "but the story in Witcher 3 is better written"... so what? I'm not talking about that.

It means that I see both the positive and negatives in a game and not just the negatives. It will have it's flaws but will be good fun regardless.

Here's my guess on how item acquisition and linearity works in the game:

Find and complete shrines to get Soul Spheres.

Spend soul spheres en masse to obtain "dungeon items" which are needed to gain access to and complete dungeons.

Dungeons can be completed in any order, but harder dungeons require more spheres to enter, suggesting to the player an order for the smoothest difficulty curve.

TLDR: Pretty much A Link Between Worlds, but instead of rupees, you spend soul spheres on Dungeon items.

Ok.
The conversation i was having, was about how they were handling the visual side of the over world, then you point out that the game also has positive elements. Ok, never claimed that Zelda didn't have any positive elements, but again, i don't see how it is relevant to what I was discussing.

During the playable demo, the full map of the game was revealed. The folks over at Eggplante have crunched some numbers, and have come to the conclusion that the full size of Breath of the Wild’s map is roughly 360 square kilometers (140 square miles). This means that the new Zelda‘s map is just a tad smaller than that of Xenoblade Chronicles X, which has a map size of 154.44 square miles. It was revealed earlier that Breath of the Wild is 12 times bigger than Twilight Princess. So with all things said, the new Zelda is huge!

That's really cool. I bet the world will feel even larger than Xenoblade because the movement speed isn't as fast and Epona doesn't cover as much ground as the Skells. Plus there will be a lot more to do within the world itself than Xenoblade with all the trials and dungeons, and we haven't seen what the towns and villages look like yet.

was hero mode confirmed?

hopefully it's available from the start

(and yes, I saw the gifs of Link getting one shot.. doesnt matter much when he only had 3 hp. Regular monsters still do a quarter health of damage...)

We don't know if all "regular" monsters do that little damage though, since this was the start of the game.

There were guardian enemies that did 5 hearts worth of damage, for example.

I saw a regular blue moblin one shot someone also, it's not limited to bosses or the guardians statues. I think only the starting enemies do a quarter of damage.

Watched some of the gameplay, and the amount of pop-up was very disappointing. Not just barely noticeable stuff in the far distance either, but big boulders not far off :(

Possibly, although given that we have runes/skills being acquired in the shrines as well, perhaps it will be a mix of both.

The bunny hood is a must in this game. I want to be able to run without holding down a button.

Chateau romani for infinite magic stamina.

...Tho on the subject of magic, curious to know whether the wind waker styled great fairies/fairy queen will be around somewhere.

I do remember at one point, I think it was with Bill - they did zoom out and show the whole map.

Are you referring to this? If so, then I don't think it is zoomed out all the way since the markers are outside the border areas and it would suggest that there is more land and borders

Did anyone ever mention what the voice tracking on the bottom right is for?

Stealth gauge or rather sound gage. Measures how much noise you make which can alert enemies. You can even crouch and sneak to reduce visibility and noise.

The image NE shows is the zoomed in part of the demo. They can't be saying THAT is barely smaller than Xeno's map...

I recall seeing a screenshot in one of the threads of one more map zoom level further than that one, where the plateau was tiny...

Where on the map is the E3 demo area? Anyone tried to find out?
