Spencer: There won't be Scorpio exclusive console games

"For you and I, we usually think about generations in terms of what games will it play?" Spencer told Eurogamer. "This thing will play Ryse: Son of Rome, a launch game for your Xbox One. And we'll have launch Scorpio games as well that are playable on an Xbox One, Xbox One S and Scorpio and look great on all three of them."

The Xbox boss also reiterated that "there won't be Scorpio exclusive console games. Absolutely not."

Are they not neutering the Scorpio though by not having (at least some) exclusive games for it as in Scorpio only to take advantage of the hardware ? Seems like......a waste.

Even if true, new games will still like run like ass on the Xbox One, same goes to PS4/Neo. It will be Nintendo New 3DS all over again.

I really don't get it either you have exclusives (like VR games) and it's a new generation.
Either you don't and what to do once you reach 4K do you really need that much power more ? That seems more like a "who's got the biggest" contest for microsoft.

It seems just something to say not to frighten xbox 1 buyers and that's it.The more he speaks the less >I trust Phil Spencer.

Sounds like they have realised what a boo boo it was by making the console refresh they announced at the start of the show obsolete by the end wasn't the best idea.

It was literally "up to the development community to decide" yesterday. This combined with the need of 4k TV makes it easy for me to skip the whole damn thing.

The Xbox one is essentially a PC. There's no reason there would be Scorpio exclusive titles. The settings would just be lowered, like on the PC versions.

The only way something would be exclusive is if a developer said, "no this is absolutely the minimum spec. These are the lowest presets and the Xbox one can't handle them". Which isn't likely for a good while as pretty much no sane developer likes reducing their audience size without a fat paycheck for doing so. Microsoft really has no reason to do that though.

PS4's baseline is higher here, but for mutiplat games, scalability up and down on PC is a concern anyway, so these games should still be able to spend the extra power on either Neo or Scorpio on the 'cheap' upgrades of IQ, framerate etc. For exclusives it might suck a little more for Scorpio to not be usable as a baseline. But tbh it sounds like MS is in their case happy to spend the extra power 'just' on resolution anyway :/

But it shouldn't be happening in the first place, especially not about something like this. You don't (shouldn't, at least) botch something like this up, it's not a small error.

And it's not just the exclusive games thing. Since E3....

1) Scorpio will have better frame rates, better graphical fidelity, VR support, 4k native resolution
2) Nahhh no point buying Scorpio unless you have a 4K TV


3) Scorpio might have exclusive games, it's up to developers
4) Scorpio won't have any exclusive games.

5) It's up to developers how to use the power
6) But it's only going to be a 4K resolution difference from original XB1.

7) Xbox Slim is slightly more powerful, Gears of War is taking advantage of extra power.
8) Xbox Slim isn't more powerful


Honestly what the fuck... MS should have their messaging on lockdown after 2013 but it's actually just as bad.

As if there'll be more than a couple native 4K games on Scorpio (unless it's something not-too-demanding like Rayman Origins).

1440p upscaled at best.
Which is fine by me, tbh.

So neither Scorpio nor Neo will have exclusives? I mean, I get targeting 4K/VR for same-gen games... But it's a bit of an arbitrary waste to not allow ANY exclusives, especially considering what these things could do at 1080p. And Scorpio is dropping 4 years after the Xbox One. That's the same gap as the Xbox and Xbox 360. I don't think it's unreasonable to allow SOME exclusivity after that long.

I'm guessing eventually both Sony and MS are gonna change their positions.
