Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

I think I saw at one point Link opening the chest from the wrong side. So I guess the chest doesn't open all the way because they want you to be able to open them from any side now (which is good) and the chest would clip through Link if it opened all the way.

Fun note: if you don't have shoes equipped when trying to open a chest from the wrong side, Link reels in pain.

Thank you. So Shrine 4/4 segment showed 3 shrines total, the last two of which are outside the Plateau? Or Shrine 4/4 showed two total, both outside the Plateau? I feel like that was the icy area but I'm trying to recall if I saw it. I haven't watched all the footage yet, though.

Haha, you'd think so, but you never know with Nintendo and those icy areas looked so different from the rest of the Plateau. And I couldn't quite figure out where on the Plateau map we saw that the icy area is. (And see above--evidently only the end of the Beyond the Plateau section showed areas beyond the Plateau ;))
Watch Shrine Gameplay 3/4 if you want to see the icy area and how it's incorporated into the Great Plateau.

The truth is during the 5hours of stream we hardly could be able to hear any musics because they toned it down so we could hear the streamers clearly. So, I think it's early to judge.

I think you might have missed some details that we shown during the stream, so I recommand you to take a look at this recap: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1233823
To be fair, the Bobobkins in the demo build are pretty dumb and easy. Night seems a bit harder, but still not much. But I think they know that. They keep mentioning in the stream that you'll see a greater variety and harder enemies in other areas. That its easy and common to accidentally wander into an area that your vastly under-leveled for. I don't think combat in Zelda is ever going to be "hard" again, but it sounds like a step up from the previous 3d games.

I love how the death screen is just Link falling into a crumpled heap instead of a death animation.

Treehouse stream. Which one was debunked btw?

I see. And female playable character

re-read the thread about that rumor. It was specifically said that the female Link thing was under consideration, which would explain why she had that info.

Even on Twitter she apologized for it being "inaccurate." She never specifically said "female Link" either.

The Gamexplain guys said they were surprised at how much bite the game had. Watching their 40 minutes playthrough of the demo they actually die a lot, granted they play like shit but there's definitely a feeling of risk and danger that was completely foreign to previous 3D installments where you really had to try to die, especially in the starting areas.

I read that thread and caught up with some details I missed after making that post early this morning. Naturally I couldn't sit and watch every second of the stream, but I wanted to catch the combat details. Somehow, I missed some of it. The rock guy was in the hunting segment. Think I took a break around there, yesterday.

One hit and done sounds great. I'm not scared of those two big guys though. Still looks easy with predictable movement patterns. Of course, skill levels vary. What's hard for me might be easy for another and vice versa, BUT the promise of a good challenge is there. I have a feeling the game is going to make me very happy with a nice tough challenge, because Aonuma has said that you can head to the final boss from the very beginning and likely get wrecked, but winning is possible. Sounds awesome. I'll believe it when I play it though. : P

Why does link have different hair here?
Good question. They mentioned it but didn't really explain it. Simplest guess is probably just that you eventually find a way to customize your hair. Maybe you find a shop or a person where you can customize, or maybe some accessory you find does it.

His clothes are also different than the other outfits we saw.

I hope they fix the janky leg on non-flat surfaces (as seen in the spikes demo that Chiko played).

Same glitch happens on TP HD. :(

Can´t stop watching the youtube videos from Nintendo's channel. Hype levels are off the charts.

This one specifically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MtmDoWrV9k

The player is really good (those who saw the Treehouse Splatoon stream may remeber him) so he was able to show how smooth and fluid all the actions in the game feel.

OMG THE WORLD IS SO BARREN! NOTHING TO DO!

I'll never understanding this asinine comment/meme, expressed by many here. This is the richest Zelda overworld I've ever seen, by a mile, as evidenced in these videos. Forests, thick brush, different topographies, geographies, weather, animals to hunt, etc etc. I don't know what the hell these negative comments are referring to.

lt's the lack of NPCs. That can only be it.

Another character from The Wind Waker (maybe) returns.

Olivio_Figurine.png

BotW_Korok2.png

How does this function as a Wind Waker sequel? Takes place several centuries after, when the waters have receded? After a super advanced civilization has come and gone? Must be thousands of years. And there's a Goddess statue from Skyward Sword there as well.

I'm guessing the inclusion of the Koroks don't mean much and this is really a SS sequel. Which still doesn't explain the overabundance of the sci-fi shit, but whatever.

Would almost make sense (actually no, not even close) if they didn't say that 1) the land from the demo is a sacred place 2) the world is doomed, so there
are probably not many characters wandering around to get murdered by guardians or ganon's troops and 3) they didn't show NPCs and towns on purpose. People saying this is barren, aimless or with nothing to do in it simply have no idea where to look at.

Calamity Ganon is the big bad of the world, spoilers all over your face. Link's been asleep for 100 years.

The UI looks more incomplete than bad.

If it stays that way, it is bad, but I bet it gets cleaned up in the coming months.

What's wrong with the UI? The only think I find unnecessary is the the noise indicator (plus the horrific jingle and constant window pop-up).

So... the subtitle. "breath of the wild".

I'm one of the few who hates it, it's horrible, makes me think of halitosis :/ I know the focus will be on wilderness and nature and I love it, but seriously, "breath"? "call of the wild" would have been better, or "winds of the wild" or I don't know, something, not "breath", uurgh..

Besides that the game hits all the right notes.

I had thought Koroks had existed since at least Ocarina of Time. If I remember correctly Wind Waker mentioned that they only took on the form of children for OoT. If that's the case this could take place in any timeline. I'd bet that this fits in the timeline where the hero falls as they specifically mention the decline of the kingdom

The exact quote is "Once upon a time, long ago, the Koroks took on human forms, but when they came to live on the sea, they took these shapes."

Since the Calamity Ganon wants to destroy the world, rather than conquer it, it's probably at the end of the known timeline where he's given up and gone all "fuck it, ya'll going down with me".

My biggest hope for the game at this point is that the "villain" isn't something like that and is more like WW's Gannon. Not just some evil force or something.

A variety of locations and animals to hunt is not what people reference when they say it. In some Zelda games, the overworld is smaller but much denser: puzzles in every square inch, secrets on every screen. It was quite handcrafted, and so every part of the world felt intimate and brilliantly designed. By nature, when you increase a game world size exponentially, there is much less ability to hand design each little square mile of land, and you end up traveling a lot between interesting destinations instead of the overworld itself being another extension of those interesting areas.

That's not to say that will be the case here, but these videos certainly haven't demonstrated those fears are without any merit. Note that this is a nuanced complaint: There is obviously an insane amount of things to do in this game. But some people prefer smaller, more handcrafted areas where you minimize down time and travel time between points of interest.

It's mostly a mish-mash of weird fonts that often appear on the screen without any real transition.

I'm still catching up with the thread, but I see a lot of people complaining about the game looking "washed out".

That's just the live stream the looks like that. Look at other gameplay videos and not only will you see the colors look vibrant, but the game also looks sharp (on the stream it looks smudged).

Also, Nintendo has the entire Zelda segments on their youtube channel and it looks MUCH better than the live stream:

What 3D Zelda game has everything you just posted? OoT and twighlight princess has pretty boring over worlds. Skyward sword didn't really have one and wind waker was mostly water.

It has things from all three timelines (it fits to be the game after Zelda II, it has the Korok's from Wind Waker and wolf link comes from yet another timeline.

Would they try to "unite" all tree branches in a way?

There are a few time mechanics in the game already, and it would be nuts if you could jump between the three timelines and the world would be completely different...though the more realistic option is just that all the universes collided so there's a mixture of everything.

Either way, I hope these inclusions aren't just references but mean something more, because I've always loved Zelda timeline stuff, and having a game where everything is converging/mixing is an awesome thought.

Things that are worrying/disappointing me:

- The world looks very empty with not a whole lot going on.

- Pop-in.

- Another Zelda game that looks very easy.

- The stamina meter should be on the side of the screen, not right next to Link.

- The climbing looks ridiculously slow.

- No voice acting for NPC's (really annoyed with this).

Other than that it looks fairly solid. The trailer looked amazing, but the more gameplay I watch the more boring it kinda seems.

-This is just the opening area. Obviously other areas will have more stuff going on. Remember the opening areas on Zelda are always somewhat easy.

-Pop in is a reality in console games, specially on demanding games. That's something that will hopefully not happen in the NX version.

-The game can be as easy or hard as you want it to be. Just stay with the traditional clothes and you'll take more damage. Or don't pick up food so you are forced to conserve energy (remember, you can't find hearts in the grass anymore).

-Stamina meter is just fine. Once you play the game you won't even notice it.

-You can speed it up, but it will use more stamina. Later on you can upgrade the stamina, so I assume that by the end of the game you'll be able to climb anything really quickly and still have stamina left.

-I wasn't really expecting VA for every single character. Having VA for important/story conversations is just fine.

Did people expect a different experience?

No they expected same visuals based on a shitty clickbait article from gamespot.

No it doesn't.

- Pop-in.
Wii U has its limits and this isn't the final build. A game isn't good or bad based on pop-in anyway.

- Another Zelda game that looks very easy.
This is the first area, they said that others have a lot of monsters wandering around that can absolutely wreck you (which happened in the gameplay as well). Hero mode is also a given, maybe Ganon amiibo will come back for 4x damage.
- The stamina meter should be on the side of the screen, not right next to Link.
This is a minor thing, and isn't necessarily final.
- The climbing looks ridiculously slow.
You can use the stamina to climb much, MUCH faster.
- No voice acting for NPC's (really annoyed with this).
We only saw 1 NPC. Again, not something that moves the balance.

Other than that it looks fairly solid. The trailer looked amazing, but the more gameplay I watch the more boring it kinda seems.
Should be the opposite, the trailer is amazing but it's the gameplay that is out of this world.

Confused by the easy comment. Do people literally want Zelda to be another Souls? The bokoblins are pretty easy, but the guardians look very difficult, and that rock monster was basically instant kill. This looks to be by far the toughest 3D Zelda by a large margin especially since you can attempt to go to the end of the game with literally no upgrades from the start.

I agree with the climbing being too slow, though.

I also feel like rolling is gone? Which would be sad.

We don't really know enough to say the world is too empty. I'm completely fine with the density of stuff to do of what we have seen so far. Looks far more sense than TP, OOT, and Wind Waker. Faaaarrr more.
