Timeline talk!
I don't know why they even implied a connection to Twilight Princess before (that might just be the amiibo) because seriously there's 1 thing we know is that it's not in the Child timeline.
It makes no sense for it to be on the adult timeline either.
Both because of the state of the Temple of time in OoT, TP, WW and BotW.
(or if after WW, why the hell the whole conundrum about the finding a new Hyrule if it's for the sea to recede?)
I'm betting on failed timeline somehow.... or Adult as part of the PH/ST but back in Hyrule...

After some research (and specifically finding this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGdIQ26n1Bg), I'm going to backtrack on this and it almost jumps to my most likely timeline.

The appearance of the Korok in particular is interesting. Yes, they could have evolved in the other two timelines, but it seems specifically that this evolution was spurred on because of the great flood, making their appearance very telling.

It's been years since I played Wind Waker, so I forgot that the Koroks plant trees in hope of receding the flood waters. It's very likely that they were successful in this effort, revealing the land below. All the mountains could be explained as the islands in Wind Waker after the waters recede.

Ganondorf was still under the sea and it's possible the removal of the Master Sword (if this is the Wind Waker timeline, the sword would be in his head, not at the pedestal in the woods), then that would have let Calamity Ganon to emerge.

Of course, the problem with this is that there was a new Hyrule in Phantom Hourglass.

I saw this and thought post ww for sure:

Guys, what if... what if this game... was Valley of the Flood?

From paragraph 5 in the OP "Yeah sure it wont have a big story, who cares, I want to have interesting gameplay" I didn't know stuff had been missed out, the shows are on too early for us here in the UK (if you work normal hours) and I don't have time to watch hours on hours of footage of a game.

It is a caricature because Zelda has never been known for its story like Witcher serie is but for its gameplay.

But if you read above the recap of the Gameplay and not just the " OVERALL FEELING", the writer did mentionned this:
•The E3 demo is only the plateau, a small elevated chunk of land where you can spend hours and hours exploring and its like 2% of the full game.
•There will be towns and NPCs but most have been removed for the demo.

whoa cool, also looks like there is a meteor that falls to the world around 16:30 and creates a huge impact and then a pillar of light. Any info on that?

it's probably just a random event that happens every night or every couple of nights. you can probably mine the meteorite for special ores, but you've got to get to it first.

If it was, it would just be a disappointment.

We have already many realistic cinematic games, you couldn't make that kind of amazing art with real gfx.

So, short answer,I'm happy it's not.

According to Eurogamer, if you open a treasure chest by kicking it when you don't have any boots equipped, Link will hurt his foot and take damage.

This is MGS levels of insanity.

I'm going to be in heaven playing this game.

There are certain little things that really stuck with me from OoT. Stuff like chopping a sign and healing it with a song or touching a butterfly with a Deku Stick and having it turn into a fairy or shooting the Sun for Fire Arrows. It just felt so amazing to me that I could do those things and have something interesting happen. It felt great to have my curiosity rewarded.

Zelda: BotW appears to be absoluted loaded with detailed interactions for the player to discover; things that are logical but you'd still be surprised if it actualy worked. You can start a fire by hitting flint with a metallic weapon, for example. Clearly, the world is going to be rich, not just a backdrop for puzzling dungeons. I'm really excited about this.

l remember Miyamoto talking about something like that, l think it was in an Iwata Asks about OoT. How important it was for the world to feel fully interactive with the player being rewarded for his curiosity, even if the consequence of his action is insignificant or pointless. He gave the example of cutting a sign in two, throwing the pieces in water and the pieces floating.

This game seems to be the culmination of this philosophy.

I've always personally thought that the Zelda series operated on a time loop. Which essentially means that the same things keep happening over and over again forever, but each time they play out slightly differently IE Child/Adult/Dead timelines

Edit. I think this game is going to close the loop so to speak. It will be After Wind Waker, but Before Skyward Sword. When wind wakers sea has become land, but before it has become a desert like in skyward sword

Has this been answered yet? I'm curious if you have no weapon at all if you can punch enemies? Or do you just have to run from them until you find a weapon of some sort. What about food that increases your hearts? Can those stack? Aka +5 item and another +5 item gives you +10 hearts total or just +5

Why is there is almost no music.....
I will really miss a field theme in Zelda....
Same, but I like the piano sounds. Hoping it's somewhere in the game and also hoping towns and dungeons have music.

How is that the 1rst time I hear about this theory?
I personally don't think it's like that but it's certainly something to consider.
It kind of makes sense too.

According to GameXplain, they said Link unsuccessfully reaches for a weapon, so no. Granted, I don't know for certain, but that's the only thing I've heard on the subject.

I think you can see Link trying to reach for a weapon multiple times in the very 1rst treehouse vid when Link is out of the stasis chamber.

I'll have to go back to the first video and see that for myself. Didn't pay much attention to that at the time (didn't know to look out for it). Thanks!

Oh definitely. I remember seeing this but completely forgot about it. Would lead credence to a post-WW timeline.

I was toying around with a "fallen hero" timeline, possibly post Zelda II, but there's nothing concrete that would connect it to that timeline. Same with the child timeline, I think.

But, the post-WW timeline does have several factors that would make it possible, the existence of the Koroks the biggest one. If we go with the theory that the Koroks planted trees which led to the receding of the great waters, then that would certainly take many, many years. The new continent/new Hyrule would have been the location for civilization to live and flourish together, not separated by all the islands. Once the flood waters recede, then they can return to the land below. Or something like that.

It doesn't explain everything though, such as the Guardians.

Zelda timeline is fascinating yet confusing at the same time to me lol.

No kidding. The attempt to have everything connected leads to it not being completely sound in all places.

Probably have to run until you get a reusable rune that can be used offensively, like bombs or magnet.

I'm pretty sure temporary health boost food items don't stack. I think I saw them chow down on two and only got the boost of one, though I'm not positive.

Yeah it definitely showed that. I'm sure they've gotta implement some way to deal with enemies at that point.

Ah, that probably is what will happen! And thanks. No infinite health for Link is probably a good thing though I'd imagine if it did even stack, they'd limit it.

Anybody have an image or description of the game controls?

Watching all the demos, is the bow and arrow a Left trigger/Right trigger action? Or are people aiming with the gamepad motion controls, how WWHD and TPHD worked. They're moving and aiming at the same time.

Ok, so after seeing all those gifs at the OP i am starting to believe this game is going to be very very good.

Just a shame about the graphics and image quality not being better (except for the fire, that looks perfect)

The timelines convening on each other would explain a lot of the mish-mash elements from the other games
that isn't just "lol Nintendo don't give a fuck"
.

I would like to believe that in recent games, Nintendo has been more mindful of the timeline, but at the same time, I don't necessarily believe it.

I honestly thought about a converging timeline for this game too, but honestly, I'm not sure how it would work.
Give me an epic story across all the timelines with Ganons teaming up.

Bow and arrow is on the right trigger. I've seen the control explanation come up when Link picked up fire arrows.

Death Mountain "creature"

This is what open world RPG is all about, eh? A curiosity of something in the distance, the journey to get there when you're not supposed to, and" what the fuck nope nope nope" feeling when you actually reached your destination.

Are speculation or theories threads allowed in GAF? I made a post yesterday taliking about similar locations of BOTW from past Zelda games.

There's also the fact that I've seen many posts talking about the timeline convergence!

The koroks is a clear tie to WW, they're only in WW.
The temple of time is still standing but with a huge hole in the side so clearly it's not after TP (as TP has the ToT with only small ruins and something like 90% of the structure destroyed).
I think you're on to something.

Everything I hear about this just makes me want it more and more.
Random meteors falling? Rare minerals or space aliens?
Beast on Death Mountain? It must be huge! I want to go to there!
Sea Salt in the middle of a great plateau? Post WW receeded waters Hyrule confirmed! Could this Link be the WW link put into stasis after finding a new Hyrule (which then just ended up being the same Hyrule once the ocean calmed the fuck down)?
Flying ship/island/monster! Giving me FFXIV Void Ark vibes of seeing this mysterious flying object off in the distance and not knowing what it is for such a long time.

Hype just keeps climbing, and I didn't expect them to deliver on my wants and dreams so hard. And they've not even gone into the story or towns or NPCs or the real dungeons or any of the later game stuff. Plus what is up with the lack of the iconic tunic? Why is the Master Sword so decrepit? Can't waaaaaait to dig into the game!

This is what open world RPG is all about, eh? A curiosity of something in the distance, the journey to get there when you're not supposed to, and" what the fuck nope nope nope" feeling when you actually reached your destination.

One of the most disappointing things in The Witcher 3 was me seeing that massive, giant tree in Velen and deciding "I want to go there!". It took a bunch of finagling and navigating the long way around this mountain and eventually the monsters there were way too high level. Fair enough, it's probably a late game area (it is), I'll just run past. So I do and I get a bit up this path which leads to this mountain with the huge tree and there is a tiny little door that is locked. Shattered my dreams of exploration, It was just "nope" and pushed me away. Yeah you go back later as a story thing and go through the door but I saw something in the distance, worked to get there and was rewarded with a "fuck off, you're not meant to be here yet, it's a whole story sequence where we just warp you here and then you climb up". I hope so much that Zelda just says "oh, you think you're ready? Good luck..." The whole "climb anything" is good, it shows me that Nintendo welcome the exploration, where if you can climb it you're good. Like trying to get to the hidden garden on top of the SotC temple. So many other Open World games block you of with invisible walls or "there be demons here" or "the wind is bad", I just hope at the end of the world in Zelda is either some vast sea that you'll drown in before you get too far or some insurmountable cliff that you will never be able to climb, something like welcomes the player to try but never straight up says "NO".

Yep, agreed. I think the theory that it comes after Wind Waker is pretty sound at this point.

Still, there are some things that don't quite fit. Where did the Sheikah slate and its technology come from (In Wind Waker, the Sheikah were pretty much extinct)? What are the Guardians, and why are they all over the place as if a major battle was fought, or they were protecting something (considerably around the Temple of Time)? And the biggest one, why is there so much emphasis on the Goddess Hylia, with a statue of her identical to the massive one from Skyward Sword inside the Temple of Time (In OoT and Wind Waker, she is almost completely forgotten)?

The Sheikah technology, as well as the Guardians, could be easily explained away if there is a considerable amount of time between when the Wind Waker oceans receded, and Breath of the Wild begins. Perhaps the Sheikah re-emerged to attempt to protect Hyrule without a Hero, or even to protect the Triforce (which at this point SHOULD be complete again)?

The Hylia bits though are extremely odd...and imply a heavy Skyward Sword influence. There is no mention what-so-ever of Hylia in games more recent to Breath of the Wild if this timeline theory is correct. Did Hylia return and intervene to prevent catastrophic events, just as was done in the centuries prior to Wind Waker?

My god, so many questions... :x

So I asked this earlier, but I'm not sure if anyone responded so I apologize..does anyone know if rolling is in the game? I know..pretty random question, but I don't remember seeing it in the treehouse videos. Every time I saw the guardian focusing on the player, I was wondering why the player didn't roll!

There was a time during the conference where you could see some giant thing flying in the sky way off in the distance. I don't think i've seen it mentioned anywhere yet...i'll try to find it.

There's been a few GIFs ITT posted earlier, looks like some sort of floating fortress or island.

You mean this?

It could be Skyloft, Sky City or some sort of airship.
