The Loud House |OT| The Most Full House

NDEvEYt.jpg
What is this?

Created by Chris Savino as a 2 and a half minute short for their yearly Animated Shorts Program, the Loud House as now been picked up as a full 26 order series!

Welcome to the Loud House! Home to Lori, Leni, Luna, Luan, Lynn, Lucy, Lana, Lola, Lisa, Lily and… Lincoln Loud!

As the only brother in the house with five older sisters, five younger sisters and one bathroom, life in the Loud house can get pretty crazy. From unwanted makeovers to exploding science experiments to getting the perfect seat for the family road trip, there's no problem too large--or bedroom too small-- for Lincoln! And despite all of the headaches, he wouldn't have it any other way.

Lincoln's secret to surviving in the Loud House? Always have a plan. And with a little help from his best friend Clyde, Lincoln can handle anything his sisters throw at him.

I recently saw the first few episodes of this show and I have to say it's really well done. The writing is nice and there's a lot of fun playing around with the family dynamics.

Who's Who?

Lincoln Loud (voiced by Grant Palmer) — At 11 years old, Lincoln is the only son and middle child of the Loud children; he is an avid reader of comic books, and frequently speaks to the viewer on how he gets around the often chaotic conditions of the household by finding creative solutions to his problems.

Lori Loud (voiced by Catherine Taber) — At 17 years old, she is the eldest of the Loud children (a fact she takes pride in); Lori is depicted as bossy, sarcastic and condescending towards Lincoln. Despite that, she does care about her brother and sisters.

Leni Loud (voiced by Liliana Mumy) — At 16 years old, she is the second oldest of the Loud children; Leni is depicted as a dumb blonde who is kind and pretty, but is naïve and lacks intelligence and awareness. She shows talents in fashion designing.

Luna Loud (voiced by Nika Futterman) — At 15 years old, she is the third oldest child of the Loud family; Luna is a free-spirited musician an interest in rock and roll music, and she owns and plays an electric guitar.

Luan Loud (voiced by Cristina Pucelli) — At 14 years old, she is fourth oldest of the Loud children; Luan is fond of practical jokes and comedy. She wears braces, has squirt-flowers on her shirt and shoes, and owns a ventriloquist dummy named Mr. Coconuts.

Lynn Loud (voiced by Jessica DiCicco)— At 13 years old, she is the fifth oldest of the Loud children; Lynn is very energetic and competitive, and often engages in sports and other physical activities.

Lucy Loud (voiced by Jessica DiCicco) — At 8 years old, she's the seventh youngest of the Loud children; Lucy is a cynical, deadpan and sarcastic emo girl, who dresses in black and has an interest in poetry and gothic fiction. She has very pale skin and long black hair that conceals her eyes. Lucy also has an uncanny ability to suddenly appear in places, which often frightens her siblings.

Lola Loud (voiced by Grey Griffin) — At 6 years old, she and Lana are identical twin sisters. Lola is a bratty girly-girl, who dresses in pink princess attire and acts as a tattletale for the family. She and Lana are missing their front teeth.

Lana Loud (voiced by Grey Griffin) — At 6 years old, she is Lola's identical twin sister. Unlike her sister, she is a fun-loving tomboy who loves to get her hands dirty, which often annoys Lola. She is also a skilled mechanic and plumber.

Lisa Loud (voiced by Lara Jill Miller) — At 4 years old, she is the eighth youngest of the Loud children; Lisa is a child prodigy, who has graduated college with a PhD and often engages in complex equations and experiments. She wears large glasses and speaks with a lateral lisp.

Lily Loud (voiced by Grey Griffin) — At 15 months, the youngest child of the Loud family; Lily is an infant, who tends to defecate in her diaper and leave a foul stench, which is known to disgust her older siblings.

Other Characters -
Clyde McBride (voiced by Caleel Harris) — Lincoln's best friend, who serves as a wingman to him in his exploits. He is an only child and spends almost all of his time with Lincoln. Clyde harbors an unrequited crush on Lori.

Dad (voiced by Brian Stepanek) — The stern, if somewhat immature father of the Loud children. His face is never shown onscreen, though his eyes are seen in "The Sweet Spot".

Mom (voiced by Jill Talley) — The mother of the Loud children, who is more level-headed and authoritative than her husband. Her face is never shown onscreen.

Haven't caught the show yet, but there are tons of threads about it on /co/

Those threads are

strange

I'll check out some episodes and see if I like it.

I've enjoyed what I've seen so far. The art is a breath of fresh air from what Nick has been putting out lately.

I just discovered this show (though I did see a shit-ton of ads for it on mobile-GAF), & it's actually not bad. Beats most of Nick's output as of late.

I just started watching it and I gotta say it's pretty good. This and Harvey Beaks might be a sign of Nick improving.

After catching up completely up to this point, it really does seem like a call-back to the spirit of Nick's classic shows. It's just the idea of a guy who's middle child of 10 other sisters seems like an idea you'd see from Nick back in the 90's or early 2000's. Also, there's a bunch of great cameos in the swimming pool episode from the older characters of previous Nick shows (Uncle Iroh included).

Have you seen the recent version of Powerpuff Girls & Teen Titans?
Have you seen Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Over the garden wall, The Amazing World of Gumball, We bare bears and Clarence. Teen Titans GO is actually really funny as well.

I meant in the last year or two. Steven Universe, Adventure Time, & Regular Show have been around for longer.

Been meaning to watch this. I really like the news paper comic look they have going for. The creator of the show has worked on bunch of classic Nick/Cartoon Network animated shows that I liked. Will watch later.

Now that's a resume, hot damn.

I definitely enjoy this series. Best thing Nick has released in a while. Harvey Beaks seemed good but it didn't keep my interest.

Yeah this show definitely has an old-school vibe to it which I really enjoy. The intro definitely feels like a callback to the early 2000 cartoons.

This. I can't help but feel nostalgic while watching this. I feel like a kid again, & I love it. I do agree that this is the best thing Nick has produced in a good long while.

There's one thing that bothers the shit out of me that's a spoiler for a future episode.
Shouldn't Lori recognize Ronnie given that she's Bobby's little sister? More so since it's implied in a later episode that Lori has already met the other Santiagos, judging by Lori re-gifting her great grandma's broach.

  • So apparently they already released the design for Ronnie Anne
    Santiago, Bobby's little sister
. Does anyone know where it is?
  • I just found out that Luan is voiced by Silvia from Viewtiful Joe.
  • The concert episode made me appreciate Luna more, especially with her rock references (namely to The Clash/Bobby Fuller Four/The Crickets/Green Day reference in the episode).

Here's her design.
Not a bad design, & the smirk in the design does line up with the bits of her personality that was teased in the episode where she initially bullied Lincoln.
Just by looking at Ronnie Anne, you can tell that she's definitely Bobby's sister, but my point still stands in that Lori should have recognized her instantly.
Though given her facial structure, I'm led to believe that she's slightly older than Lincoln (probably by a year tops since they're both in 5th Grade). The only ones that we know of who have that facial structure are the older Loud sisters (Lynn, Luan, Luna, Leni, & Lori), Bobby, & the random adults.

I also heard that the show got renewed for a second season already thanks to insanely high ratings (well-deserved, if I do say so myself). If so, good for everyone involved.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards her being slightly older too.

That's the thing, I like how there's a consistent design language in terms of the smaller details in the characters' designs (like the mentioned facial structure correlating with the characters' respective ages). Was the voice actress for Ronnie Anne already cast? And if so, who's voicing her?
*crosses fingers for Laura Bailey*
Sorry, I'm a bit of a Laura Bailey fanboy, but she would fit the role. Either her or Tara Strong would work.

But seriously, did the show get renewed?

I think it was confirmed a while ago that it was already ordered for a second season.

It's been receiving high ratings as well.

Another thing that stuck out to me. When all of the sisters were "EEEEEEE"ing over Ronnie Anne's crush on Lincoln, Lucy & Lana joined in on it. Of course, Lucy's reaction was justified in a later episode
thanks to her secret favorite book
, but what about Lana?

I just got around to seeing the money episode. The fact that you can see the combat cloud loop sporadically at the exact same point kinda bothers me, & Lucy's delivery in trying to summon Sharon Demonet was a bit flat (but I guess the voice actress had to set herself apart from Lynn as much as she could, which she has done better in the past). Otherwise, it was a great episode. Thankfully Luan didn't say "Get it?" after her jokes until the end this time, something that I hope continues going forward, or at least have the phase used sparingly (which is great since I'm a huge fan of Luan's voice actress). It was fine the first few times, but it got annoying after a while. It also helps that her puns were on-point this time. I'm also a bit surprised that Leni had some depth to her, namely her lock-picking skills (which makes sense given that she likely uses hair pins a lot).

EDIT: Almost forgot, I appreciate Luna's Aerosmith reference (props if you know what I'm talking about).

I got around to seeing the sleepover episode. Not only did it make Clyde (a character who I was previously more indifferent towards) a lot more likable than before, the introduction of his dads (yes, plural) made the show a lot more progressive in depicting same-sex parents without beating you over the head with it. It's probably one of my favorite episodes so far, right up there with the "bully" one.

Also, Lynn's full name is Lynn Jr.? Does that imply that the mother's name is also Lynn (either her or the grandma)?

Yeah Clyde's been in need of more depth. It's nice to have an epiaode finalky give him that.

I honestly don't know what my favorite episode is yet but the swimking pool one is definitely up there.

The swimming pool one was pretty legit, namely due to the other cameos from previous Nick shows (specifically Uncle Iroh).

Finally, a new episode.

I really enjoyed it. I knew Clyde's parents were gay as I read the Wikipedia summary of the episode, but it was nice finally seeing it. The bits were great in this episode, the cat mauling and the shampoo bit especially.

It was pleasant surprise for me, as the only thing I read the episode listing for ahead of time was for one future episode involving Ronnie Anne. That said, more character development for Clyde is always appreciated, especially since he became much more likable as a result of this episode. Hopefully we get more character development for the other sisters (similar to what we already got for Luna &, to an extent, Leni) in the future. We also got a bit of world-building thanks to peeks at Lynn (Jr.), Leni, Luna, & Lincoln's circle of friends (before we only saw Lincoln's homeroom class & 2 of his gaming buddies, Clyde aside).

I still find it funny how Clyde's parents used the sleepover as an excuse to have their Date Night.

Yeah, as it stands, most of the sister's are still defined by their most shallow character trait. Lola seems to be the only one whose other traits are made apparent across episodes. For Luna, she had a bit of backstory, but I still feels she's a bit one note, no pun intended.

Apparently they're gonna go further into the personalities of the sisters in later episodes & especially next season (it already got renewed). If this episode's treatment of Clyde is any indication, I look forward to it.

Something that I noticed in the recent episode, Lincoln circled Saturday for the sleepover with Clyde, yet Lisa said that it was Friday night. It's nothing that you'd notice the first time, but it sticks out later.

Also, thinking about it, Lori, Lynn, & Lucy probably had the most character development of the 10 sisters so far. Lori because she's been featured prominently in most of the episodes up to this point, while Lynn & Lucy had entire episodes dedicated to each of them that featured a sizable amount of character development for them. As ArgyleReptile said, Luna only really gained some backstory (which, while it is character development, doesn't equate as much to depth as I initially thought). But as of now, Clyde probably gained a massive boost in depth amongst the supporting cast.

Just watched the family band episode. While it wasn't my favorite episode so far, it certainly got the job done as far as character development goes. And not only did we finally see
Mick Swagger
as a prominent character in something & get some more character development for Luna, but we also got a surprising amount of character development for Daddy Loud (namely him being a huge Mick Swagger fanboy, similar to Luna). That plus Lincoln is surprisingly decent at the bass. Overall, this was a pretty solid episode.

Yeah, it was decent enough. Daddy Loud was probably the more entertaining aspects of that episode.

Last night's episode was good as well. It was Lily focused, but seeing as how she's an infant, you can't really count that as development. I think I liked it more than Luna's episode though.

So I finally saw the Lily episode that ArgyleReptile was referring to, though it turned out to be more of a babysitting episode. Definitely better than the band episode, & it used Clyde pretty well (& it made sense given his interaction with the family in the sleepover episode & the episode where Lincoln tried to mold Lily into a mini-Lincoln). And like the band episode, it provided a nice bit of world-building (specifically the aunt, though I'm sad that they didn't used the previously-referenced Aunt Shirley).

Knowing that I'll have a crap-ton of episodes to give my thoughts on this week (we're getting one episode a day Monday through Friday, including the anticipated Ronnie Anne episode), here's my overdue opinions on the episodes that did air last week but I forgot to write reviews for.
  • The episode with Lincoln going with his mom to the dentist was actually rather fun, & gave us quite a bit of character development for Momma Loud (not just for how she goes about her day, but also her true aspirations). Plus it's nice to get some new scenery from time-to-time. I'd rank it around my Top 5 as of right now.
  • The beauty pageant swap episode was also a solid one for me as it not only provided character development for Lana, but it demonstrated how good the character designers are at their jobs. Despite the fact that Lola & Lana are twins, you can easily tell the two apart just by their faces, even when Lana had Lola's clothes on (& I don't just mean the teeth, since Lola had dentures to fill her front teeth gaps for her training segment).

Cover Girls was a home-run episode. Originally I thought it was just gonna be Lincoln impersonating everyone via The Trunk, but then the show upped the ante by having everyone impersonate each other at different times. While granted, they could have gotten away with just being themselves at the end, I can understand why they didn't since they thought that Grandpa Loud would notice
(though it was revealed later that it wouldn't have mattered either way since he didn't have his glasses on)
. It was easily one of my favorite episodes so far.

Cover Girls was great. Them impersonating each other despite them all being home could be attributed to them being too caught up in their roles and not taking the time to realize that everyone was actually home.

Tonight's episode, Out on a Limo, was alright. I think my main problem is that that particular story has been done a lot in cartoons. The gags themselves were pretty good though.

That episode is my favorite one so far.

  • Out of the Limo was an okay episode. But as ArgyleReptile said, it's a concept done to death in cartoons. At the very least, it provided a good bit of world-building.
  • Attention Deficit was another great episode, not just because we got to see more character development for the McBride dads, but we also got to see more of Clyde's side of things (which we only saw a little bit of at the start of Cover Girls). It didn't provide nearly as much world-building as Out of the Limo, but the plot was much more unique (which I appreciated), thus proving that this show excels when it focuses more on the context of the characters' lives. I'd rank it as my favorite so far if it wasn't for the most recent episode that I saw.
  • Save the Date was bar-none my favorite episode so far. Not only did it follow up on the Ronnie Anne tease from Episode 2, but Clyde ended up stealing the whole episode (& he provided the episode with an interesting conflict of interest, seeing as he wanted Bobby & Lori to stay broken up). It was also nice to see that Ronnie Anne was just as annoyed by Bobby & Lori's super-cheesy try-hard relationship as Lincoln is. And of course, we got to see more of Lincoln's hometown (though not nearly as much as what we saw in Lincoln's trip to his mom's dentist office). My only complaints were that Lori didn't call Lincoln out on what happened during Episode 2 (when he went on that "No melding" rant near the end of said episode) & that
Clyde wasn't made aware of the note Ronnie Anne left at the end (since her chewing Lincoln out in front of everyone was staged as a means to stop the teasing).
Since she & Lincoln seem to be a thing now, I'm curious to see if she'll show up alongside Clyde going forward.
Overall, the episode was executed beautifully, & the rest of the season has a tough act to follow.
I should probably screen-cap the reunion selfie (since Clyde's face in the photo was hilarious).
