[Spoilers] Resident Evil 7 Demo: "There's More, Right?" Edition

When in the darker rooms such as the 3 manniqun one, you will notice by staying still and staring at a box or manniquin, things will go pitch black.

I am starting believe those who say this puzzle is an order of operations. Do we put the fuse in the 5th inventory slot because it has 5 written on it, do we find things that are shape like numbers, are numbers in the words of the items? It worked for Resident Ev7 and Ki1chen.

Couple of questions

Can the piano be played? Wondering if the finger might somehow be related to it.

Also, can you watch the VHS tape multiple times and cause anything to change or appear on subsequent watch throughs? Has anyone figured out what the deal is with the headphones upstairs in the attic in the VHS tape?

I wonder if it's possible to get into the basement. There appeared to be a doorway or something to the left of the dead guy in the VHS segment, but walking forward triggers the end sequence for the video.

One of the big things we're probably missing is the MIA 7th mannequin. How we progress from here idk, but it feels less like a complex game puzzle and more of the style of riddle or puzzle you'd find in an ARG. Wonder if we'll have to do anything out of game or something requiring specialized knowledge similar to what it took to solve the potato sack ARG, for instance.

Or the whole thing could be a Dark Souls pendant goose chase.

wonder if the boxes in 7 pay an homage to the old games in anyway.

On my first couple of playthroughs, I played on the lowest brightness setting and the screen would randomly become practically pitch black often for seemingly no reason.

Wouldn't be surprised if it were a bug of some sort, but I did originally think there was something to it.

There's a light in the corner of the room that shines on where the boxes are (moving them you can see it clearer) which, when stared at, makes the screen go darker while you stare at it. Based on where you stare it out, it fades to black slower or faster.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but it's worth noting. Some angles won't work, others work, it's about 50/50. Generally, on the stairs, by the mannequins, and actually on the light looking up all work.

It's like a vignette. Happens when you two-hand the axe and probably also happens when you idle.

There are a lot of numbers in the video titles. Could they relate to the numbers in the environment? Maybe there's a sequence in which you have to visit the numbers?

Or, has anyone tried completing the VHS section 100 times, then turned the tap in the kitchen? IT MIGHT WORK!!! LOL :D

Another night of no real progress. Just red herrings and glitches. Grahhhh

I'd say we made a tiny bit of progress today, at least more than yesterday

>Confirmed the "Attic door sometimes opens" rumor. Not sure if glitch or not, most likely a glitch.
>Seen what the ghost girl looks like up close. Seems to be based on an RNG timer and not entirely on location.
>Numbers on everything.

We just need to figure out the correct sequence to doing everything, then it'll all become clear. Or not.

A lot of us decided the ghost girl sightings were random awhile back, especially because sometimes shes upside down. We discussed some numbers last night, its not new today anyway is what I meant.

Since we're talking about glitches, I don't remember anyone talking about this here. During the color test when you exit the tape, you can look around with the right stick. I tested moving, which didn't work, but I don't think I tried opening the inventory or anything like that.

There are quite a few... quirks with the demo.

Edit:

I thought she was always upside down in the second and fourth sitings.

So about that gif I just posted (and speaking of red herrings), the demo reminded me of a weird-ass movie I could have sworn I watched on netflix. Lo and behold I found it and heard something really interesting (at exactly 5:49):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdCPdy3wf54&t=5m47s

to me it sounded EXACTLY like the clicking noise we hear around the house. I wouldn't be surprised if they sampled the noise from this. Anyway, since we're out of ideas I'm going to personally look for peepholes or something to pierce that godamn finger through.

Again, just me being tired and out of ideas, don't take this seriously.

Alright. I'm letting my brain cooldown for a bit. I really didn't put in as much effort tonight as I would've enjoyed. Having said that, I hope some progress is discovered over night. I'll be back with crazy theories tomorrow.

This is what i've mapped so far, using floodboard width and crouch pacing (where floorboard cannot be used).

What i'm seeing is a potential stairway upstairs at the end of hallway b, and an accessible area between the livingroom and kitchen via the pantry (boarded up door), which potentially connects to the cellar area accessible from the secret passage.

I'm new to the thread and read the OP, and I know the game has likely been combed through so much that's it's unlikely that I have anything to add, but I noticed something I didn't see mentioned in the few pages I read, though I'm sure this is one of the first few things explored.

Anyway, I noticed after picking up the phone I could position the table behind me so the guy wouldn't attack me, I made it downstairs near the button with my back to a wall while swinging wildly before he got me because I left my back open.

Yea we know this already. Its a glitch since you can watch the video (finish it) and don't get attacked until you exit via the back door.

Gorgeous, nice work man, it looks great. I would love to see your map for second floor and VHS mode variant.

I've tried looking at the house layout and attempt matching it up with the wide shot we see of a house in the trailer, but they don't add up so far.

can someone try this? post from 4chan.

"now that I think about it thought, the phone says don't let appearance mislead you. maybe things are the same in VHS world and we just can't see it?"

"Okay, so now we just have to figure out which world is the truthful one? They should have the same layout and everything even if they don't look like they do if that's the case."

"fuse dissapears from the real world once the tape is watched fully, maybe it dissapear for us but it is there for them?"

I don't think it's going to be going upwards.

When you're inside the VHS andre walks down that corridor, he could have either gone into the TV room or through that door. If he had gone into the TV room then family man would need to knock him out/kill him, open the secret door, get him through the secret door, close the secret door, get him down the ladder and then position him before leaving via the corridor to the left of Andre. To me it sounds more reasonable that Andre went through the door we can't open which takes him downstairs and links up with the corridor to the left of where we find his body. To corroborate this after you get the back door key the family man walks past from the direction of the door we can't open, either he's been stood there waiting to creep us out or he's coming through that door from another area, perhaps he's just finished removing the ladder and is on his way back up?

Great job with the details.

This is basically where I'm at now

Don't worry. I've already reinstalled. I'm not done with it.

I like this theory. Supposing we find a way to open that last door and that it takes us back to the basement, I wonder what would be next step. I also wonder if any other part of the house could connect to that last attic room.

Has anyone messed around more with the shadows in the attic, there is definitely something up with that. You can make out the outline of a mirror as well as other images.

Did anyone understand what the russian dude did when he saw through the barred door?

One puzzling thing about it is that when he saw it, the phone gave out a busy line signal! Has this happened to anyone so far? What are the steps for that?

I can't believe this lol, there is very obviously something there, I guess maybe just a red herring then. I did stream yesterday and I could very much make out something.

There's definitely stuff there, but from what I remember people saying earlier, it's just weird texture stuff cause it's on another wall in the attic as well

As obscure as it is, people found this out before the demo even went up in the US somehow >_>

Also ah, that's why I saw you playing~

Yeah, I do find it interesting how this is the case, it's 2 worlds overlapped sorta, the fuse is in a diff spot even.
Someone try it.

A friend of mine is convinced there's a secret hatch in the kitchen, although I think it might simply be odd asset placement.

As you enter the kitchen from the hall, the wall to your left has a bit of skirting along it, although it doesn't cover the whole section of that wall. At least one of the panels looks oddly doubled up and he said he had the flashlight showing a weird shadow like there is a seam for it to open. It also backs on to that negative space between the living room and the kitchen too. Might be worth a look, considering there's borderline nothing else to check.

Okay!, map is all done.

Cellar (Present)
Cellar (VHS)
Ground floor (Present)
Ground floor (VHS)
Second floor (Present)
Second floor (VHS)
Loft (Present)

Separated Present time from VHS playback since there are minor differences to obstacles and movable items (eg, the chairs and crates are missing in the VHS playback and other such stuff), also changes to interactive objects are noted.
Got a few fiddly bits to add such as the spawn locations for baby toy, and hallway doll when triggers are active but overall should be fairly complete.

If any more progress gets made with exploration i'll update.

I remember noticing that but thought it was a lighting glitch or something.

Ah, the door in the pantry likely goes downwards towards the cellar, as per my maps there is a void between accessible rooms which could very well contain the route down to the cellar, at the same time the door at the end of the hallway with the broken doorknob, from outside that section of building shows a window on the external face, in between floors, suggesting that it contains a stairway that turns either 90 degrees as it goes up or a full 180.
It's unlikely to go downwards immediately, unless of course it goes downwards in a 90/180 degree angle and the floor above repeats that for the next floor up.
In which case the pantry would just be an accessible room between the livingroom and kitchen.

Regardless, the map I had seen prior to making my own assumed that there was no space between the kitchen, livingroom and first hallway, that's incorrect, while my updated maps wont be 100% accurate (give or take a few ft here and there) it's about as accurate as we're going to get without a pc version to rip apart!

Will investigate outside a little more and see if i can find evidence of the stairways direction

Random note: i've been trying to glitch past Andre in VHS, if you hold left on both sticks and rapidly tap L3/R3 the camera twitches like crazy as if its trying to break free of the forced movement.

[Edit]
Lending credence to the theory that the cellar can be entered from the end doorway, if you listen to audio as Andre walks off, after the exact length of time it takes to walk from the bottom of the stairs to the door, you hear it open then close behind him, at which point you can pass through the invisible wall in the kitchen.
I'd imagine that Andre definitely passes through that door under his own accord, and the loud crashing noise you hear while outside of the livingroom is the sound of him being attacked in the cellar.

Guys, I'm new to GAF and I was not here during the hype of PT, but OMG, RE and this thread is hyping me so much! It's been so hard to keep working this week - I have been refreshing this topic every time I can to try to figure something out of this madness!

Just my two cents, I DO believe there is something to do on a specific order, although I'm not convinced about some numbers you are seeing now (like the "5" written in blood on the drawer or even the "7" in the piano that I didn't see as well).

However, it just occurred to me, what if he had to find not cardinal, but roman numerals? This came to me when we all saw the announcement at E3:

resident-evil-7-biohazard.jpg

Because it really surprised me at the end, VIL becoming VII. I think that may be a clue to find the numbers for each item.

Or letters that are similar to numbers, like the "YOU" on the bloody note after watching the VCR that in fact is a "4" on the "U".

Anyway, maybe it's nothing, but really glad to be part of this. :)

Okay so after just messing around in the demo I realized that there are 3 paintings that are not repeated through out the whole house. Both in main and VHS world. Now I know this won't relate or connect to anything but I just wanted to point it out for those who may not realize that or maybe there is a connection between the 3 photos.

1. White sack over head lady heading up stairs
2. Family photo inside where you start
3. Photo of a person above the TV/VCR

Wow thanks for sharing this. This is brilliant

My theory is that there is an order of picking up/interacting with objects and going into the vhs world a minimum of two times. If you open the trap door in the very beginning and look at the Fuse can you enter the vhs world, unlock the axe, and do everything will the Fuse still be there in the real world or does it dissappear? If it does then maybe you exit the tape after unlocking the axe drawer and pick the objects up in a particular order. I think I'm dreaming of the number 7.
