Jawmuncher, you making the Umbrella Corps OT still? I believe you would be, but wanted to check bases.

For some reason, even though I expect it to only be an okay game, I'm strangely excited for Umbrella Corps. Maybe it has to do with the fact it seems more exciting to me knowing RE7 isn't an action-title? Who knows, it's very close to releasing, though.

Just made it today. Included all the information I had. Sadly had to go away from home so was unable to make any banners. It's the logo and screenshots and text banners

If you don't mind, I can whip up a couple small banners today and PM them to you. What do you need?

I just played through 6, and will soon be replaying 5.

I pick up Rev 2 from time to time

I'd like to do another RE2 playthrough soon, I guess I should do that before 5 hits because that is definitely going to eat up a lot of time

I was going to skip RE2 since we're getting a remake, but then I realized it's probably late next year. So it's back in. :p
I still haven't finished Revs 2, to me it felt like a step back from the original. :/

Oddly enough the reveal kind of did the opposite. Since from what we know, it's not necessarily continuing anything from previous games.

Yeah, im aware of that.
The trailer hyped me up, I don't know why. :p

ugh! Good thing it's not that far off.

I'm actually thinking the story will have a lot to do with the series story, and Capcom have been alluding to such. They have said the story will not feature characters from the series past, but I think it might be a deal where the story is still super connected to the rest of the series. IE., Resident Evil 2 featured completely new characters, none of the faces of RE1 were in it (though some references to them), but it still felt very connected to the RE series storyline.

I'm all for them going this direction, since honestly, there's not been a main RE game with no returning characters since RE2, literally we've had at least several returning characters in every RE game since RE3, Hell, I think only Survivor and Dead Aim are the only RE games with no returning faces at all. I think having an entry with no returning faces and all new ones is a nice change of pace. But it is still set in the same world, probably building off of past plot elements and things in the series that have developed that aren't familiar faces. Though RE is very character driven, there is more to it than that, and I'm for new faces being introduced separated from the past of the characters we have come to know and love for an entry.

Also makes it more interesting when they inevitably start mixing the characters introduced in this game with old series veterans and new faces again.

---

I will probably be doing a full series playthrough later this year.

I plan to play RE2 since the remake is further off, gives me a chance to do the opposite of the canon pathway (I played the canon pathway when REmake 2 was announced).

Didn't finish? Yikes! It was my GAF GOTY and everything. I do wish they could have spent a little more money on it as just better animations and hit detection would really help this title out a lot. I mainly pick it up for Raid though. A run takes about as much time as a mercs session, so it's just my go-to right now for bite-sized gaming.

I think with close to 200 hours in Raid I only have two level 100 guns.... reward loop is bad, endgame difficulty is usually only determined by enemy sponginess... Raid is still more potential than actual.... Capcom will eventually nail it because the concept is worth perfecting, but they definitely aren't there yet.

Oops, sorry for the unsolicited (and probably repeated) gripes, I am definitely in the throes of a love-hate thing with Raid.

More to your comment, yeah I think we have a while to go before REmake2... now probably is a good time to freshen up (for me at least)

In other, more general community news:
I have added two OT sections to the OP. The first is a collection of Resident Evil OTs for easy reference. The second is a set of claimed OTs from the... er... OT OT.

I will also be adding some material to reflect the laughter, the joy, the tears that has been "Resident Evil: Beginning Hour." Right now, the focus is on the heroic effort to "solve" the demo, as that is quite a story and has, like most anything else, shown the best and worst of the community.... mostly best, I think.

That stuff is worth retaining as community history, of course it is, but now that we are seeing a falling off, I think there are still interesting conversations to be had about the actual *content* of the demo, that is, what it tells us about the game world of RE/BH 7. Instead of wondering what the mechanical/puzzle-solving implications of, say, ghost girl are, let's ask what the scenario implications are. Is the Familiy Man actually a member of THE Family? I think there's a lot to learn from the demo but our focus (understandably, mine too) has been elsewhere. Disregarding the FPS/TPS controversy, the vanishing and reappearing door, etc, just what the hell is this place?

As always, I am looking for cool stuff to add to the OP. If you stumble across something worthwhile/interesting/funny that you feel would be good for the OP, just point me in the right direction.

EDIT

Dammit Dusk! Ninja'd.

I totally agree though. "You will have to say goodbye eventually. But will you be ready?"

I'm also glad they're giving the old characters a break. It's not like those can't ever come back in a future game (I hope they do).

If they make the old cast and the new cast meet up, it'll be fun to see how they interact. Hopefully the new cast is every bit as full of personality as Claire, Chris, etc.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Since Rev is more focused on return of less famous characters i wouldn't mind Billy's Return.
Billy, Rebecca and Carlos game would be my ideal

Revelaitons 3 is a must. I want it so bad.

I want more Barry and his Gun.
Yep. I was not especially hyped for Rev3, but now that I know RE7 is going for that generic horror style, I need it.

I hope they keep the same tone as Rev2 (the story and characters were the best part of that game) and hopefully expand the gameplay to be more like RE6.

With all the hype surrounding Resident Evil 7
And I actually really enjoyed the demo
, I decided to continue on my 20th anniversary playthrough:

Ahhh, RE2. By far my favourite Resident Evil, though 1 and 4 are also far up there. This was the game that got me into the series after being a bit too young to fully enjoy the original; I think I didn't understand the concept of item management/conserving ammo.

After playing the demo again I've come to terms with RE7. I think it could be pretty cool if the gameplay systems and level design are essentially Classic RE but with a more intense/creepy tone and first person. I already super dig the atmosphere since it reminds me of both RE4 village and REmake which have the best atmosphere in the series imo.

I like the demo, and am excited for RE7. I have my suspicions it'll actually turn out to be a VERY good game, I think despite the flack the series sometimes gets the people behind the Resident Evil series are good gamer designers with a lot ideas, and they work best when they allow themselves to experiment with the mold more. Though people are nagging on it, there's actually very few AAA big-budget first-person horrors, and I like the direction they're taking, the setting, the atmosphere, and the fact this does have combat and is not a hide'n'seek game. Also happy to hear it'll have puzzles, exploration, and more.

I will say I'm surprised how quickly I've come to accept ghosts in Resident Evil. I kind of thought if there were ghosts in the series ever, I'd feel a bit weird about them, but I've accepted this surprisingly quickly. I do actually think the thing in the demo is a ghost, especially with the recent voice whisper thing you can hear on no volume which sounds like something a spirit from Fatal Frame would say. I think part of the reason I've accepted it is because the series already pushes the boundaries of its virus angle, and I think a creepy Resident Evil game with all the virus stuff happening, but with more selective and personal monsters, and a twisted southern family, with an edge of something supernatural and creepy going on, is an interesting mix I never knew I wanted, but now I need it.

Given this thing could just be a weird ghost-like B.O.W. and all that and I kind of expect that's the angle they're actually going to end up going with, but I'm surprisingly okay with it even if it just turns out this is a game about a virus outbreak of B.O.W.'s in a twisted family's plantation that's haunted. I also will admit I'm a bit interested to see how the story of this game will work, knowing the Spec-Ops: The Line writer was the lead writer, it seems.

Umbrella's long-lost Ghost Virus, which was meant to bring people back from the dead, but instead of immortality or zombies, brings their spirits back as spooky infected ghostss!!

I love Pokken!
I feel like beating all resi games in anticipation for RE7. But I'm not sure which one to start with.

i'm going to do that pretty soon. Gonna do a big RE marathon in canon chronological order.

RE0
RE1
RE3 Part 1
RE2 - Claire A / Leon B
RE3 Part 2
RE Code Veronica
RE Darkside Chronicles - Operation Javier
RE Umbrella Chronicles - Umbrella's End
RE4
RE Revelations
RE Degeneration
RE5 - Lost in Nightmares
RE5
RE Damnation
RE Revelations 2
RE6

Survivor is canon but it can be easily skipped since it adds nothing to the story. I want to play the Outbreak games but i'm not sure if they are canon.

Actually, it not only helps set up Umbrella's downfall, but gives a full look at just how evil it is. Survivor and Dead Aim are essential to getting the full scope of the story, in my opinion. They both illustrate the company declining. The novel and stage play are great too.

The series has some of the most natural story progression imaginable, honestly.

Gonna try to finally beat REmake this week. Made it to the Hunters showing up before I realized I'd fucked myself by not bring stingy enough on ammo.

Agree with all of this, I think we're in for a great game.

I'm going to share my theory on the origin of the ghost here. Basically as she only appears in the tape I've got a vague feeling that she can influence/invade the world of celluloid on the VHS recordings and create ghostly apparitions of herself. She obviously really exists too because she kills them, but I think there's more going on with that girl, perhaps family experimentation that gives her the ability to manipulate celluloid. Celluloid in the demo is notable because it's used to make film reel, mannequins and dolls. I suspect the mannequins/dummy finger are supposed to be a clue, as there's bloodied scissors in the drawer where you find it, and she could be the one who makes the dummies move, and the baby doll fall down. The actual 'purpose' for the finger is it could be the biggest clue in the demo to the game's overall lore.

All theoretical bullshit though. This is what I'm going with now based on what we're given.

Claire A/Leon B.

No.

Q3. "Leon A & Claire B" and "Claire A & Leon B." Which scenario combination could be considered the true one?

A3. Both of them, of course. To digress, we really wanted to show off the merits of the zapping system, so we cut out elements of diversion from this game. We did this because by having 4 different zapping story scenarios, we felt that players would have to play through the branching story a number of times in order to see everything. Should players have time, it would be interesting to see where things differ among scenarios.

Agree with all of this, I think we're in for a great game.

Thanks for the answers all, just beat Leon A / Claire B, going for the reverse next. After REmake and RE4 last year, I thought RE2 and 3 would be fun for the summer.

Whats Zapping?

It's the term used by Capcom to describe the system where you can play a 2nd scenario after completing the 1st, allowing you to see different events going through the same areas with another character. It also describes influencing the 2nd scenario by doing/not doing certain things in the 1st. Grabbing or leaving the sub-machine gun, extra items pack, etc. makes it unavailable/available for the other character in the 2nd scenario.

Up to Chris' part in CV. Not sure how I feel about the game as a whole yet. I feel it's one of the weaker classic titles but since I've played almost all of the classic games this year for the first time that may be affecting my judgement.

Umbrella Corps will have RE.net support and will allow you to make emblems on the site that can be transferred to the game.

I'm really glad to hear this. Lack of RE.NET support in RE0 and RE6 remasters was discouraging (though understandable due to budget). Good to hear it's integrated with new titles, still

I feel like CV(X) is nearly as divisive as RE6. Lots of love/hate out there.

It's absolutely my least favorite "classic" game, maybe my least favorite mainline title, period.

I still like it OK, but replaying it over the years has felt like a chore. I only go back to it when I'm doing a full series playthrough

This isn't new news, but Capcom Cafe (a Capcom-themed cafe in Japan) has been celebrating RE, Been doing a series of chibi little Resident Evil Zero comics, some special series merchandise, and apparently they've been serving these two dishes for the past couple months during the series 20th anniversary:

It's cool that the Umbrella Corps manual is already online on PS4. Nothing too interesting aside from the RE.net stuff I mentioned. Oddly though there's a section marked "coming soon". I wonder what that could be.

Also the game is only like 3gb

lmao, same as the RE7 teaser. how can that demo be 3GB

There's probably a lot more content in the download that isn't accessible in the actual demo. Either that, or they just did a horrible job with optimizing, it's an unfinished game after all.

I remember the Zelda Collector's Edition disc actually contained most of the full Wind Waker game. The demo on the disc just locked you into only certain portions and slapped a time limit on your session, but hackers were able to find the majority of the full game's content in the disc. I suspect this sort of thing probably happens a lot, to save time.

The demo is about that size because it has two versions of the same house in it's files. In the night time version, the backyard has a lot more detail while the day time version barely has any detail at all.

The fuse box is also in two different locations on the wall.

Done with CV and with that all canon games complete. I really can't wait to play 5 again in a few weeks since I haven't played it since launch and it was my first game in the series.

Going back to this, it isn't a bad game by enemy means by yeah it does feel like more of a chore compared to the others. Felt there was more backtracking than usual, also I know this was originally a PS2 game (which was originally a dreamcast game) but this game did not age well graphically at all. The PS1 games at least have that PS1 charm to them but this is just rough overall.

Has anything been said about whether or not RE5 Remaster will support shareplay? And will Mercs be unlocked from the start or will I have to beat the campaign first?

Trying to decide whether to preorder it or not - love the game but a bit busy with uni atm, so just looking for some quick coop with my nephew until I can give it my full attention.
