I'm really glad they fixed the boss health for Simmons. That boss fight was actually tolerable now that it doesn't feel like a fight consisting of beating a brick wall with my bare fists.

I love the intersecting co-op sections. Playing as Ada helping out Jake and Sherry was really cool. I'd love to see more games do stuff like this.

It's a shame a lot of the good ideas in this game will probably be abandoned due to the mixed reception. Still, it'll be interesting to see how far they go in distancing themselves from 6 when 7 drops.

Can someone help me with a couch co-op question.

Wanting to play through this with the wife. We both played through RE5 on X360.

I've seen somewhere that people had some issues with 'player 2' not recording collectables/upgrades/etc. Is this a common issue / design feature? If we play together will she be able to develop her own profile, earn trophies etc?

Thanks guys - thinking of picking this up while its on sale in UK PSN

So it no longer takes entirely too long to beat that boss? I honestly consider it the worst boss in the series because of how long it takes, especially when Ada in the chopper. Awful.

Yeah I recently redid it with a friend and it was no where near as painful as I remember it being. They must have either fixed it or I was remembering it as being worse than what it was. I'd say it's the former.

Boss battle has definitely had it's health reduced at all stages of the fight.

Used to play this game to death and it's a lot better now because of it. However, Chris' boss' final stage is still a pain in the ass if the person playing as Piers has no idea what they're doing.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
A bit late to this party. Does nobody play online anymore? Seems that way.

Game runs so smoothly. And looks so nice. This game was gorgeous for a PS3 title.

Is it normal for me to always be on the verge of not having any ammunitions? I use physical attacks a lot to save on ammo, a trick I've used since RE4, and yet, so many times, I have one or two weapons that are out of ammo, with only the third having some. And two or three times now, I was completely out of ammunition. Like, what the fuck?

I'm on standard difficulty.

If you're having trouble make sure to use skills to drop more ammo. It kind of varies, sometimes it even hits me.

you can be pretty good on ammo as long as you realize that stunning enemies by shooting them in the head is a thing- most enemies aren't as fast/dangerous as you think, especially in lower numbers
here's an example i posted earlier in the thread of clearing one of the heavier combat encounters with melee only and only one magazine of assault rifle (with a lot of excess) on no mercy, where you have very little leeway for mistakes when there's ranged enemies on deck

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_38z1R9xGg

the biggest thing for saving ammo besides that is unfortunately one of the crappy parts of the game. it's knowing when bosses are invulnerable or not- there's a ton of points where they don't take damage at all during transitions between phases/cutscenes and you just end up wasting ammo there.

besides that, the increased ammo drop/item drop skill helps a lot alongside the skills for increasing damage (especially as they stack- stuff like ranged/melee damage up, j'avo/zombie killer and shooting wild all build on top of each other) as to reduce ammunition usage.
allowing yourself more leeway with the defense up skill is big too- you'd be surprised how much it makes a difference in terms of letting you go buck wild

Running out of ammo for a particular weapon is common in RE6, since it's not as generous as the style of game would suggest. If you use the right ammo on the right enemies and use melee when appropriate (after a stun, basically), then you'll save a lot.

Does anyone know if the game region lock??

I'm playing it from SEA but I want to play with my friend from Australia.
My friend haven't buy the game yet and I want to make sure that it's not region lock.

I couldn't get into this on PS3 at the time (the shitty framerate really put me off, among other things), but I kind of want to give this a second chance on PS4. Has anyone else in my position come around on it? I'm not really expecting to love it, which is fine--I just want to see every main game in the franchise.

My experience with RE6 (And full warning, I never actually beat the whole thing) says that it's better with friends.

Was the game always this hard? Started on normal cause I wanted to breeze through the story (already played on PC), but I don't remember it being this difficult. Started with Chris's campaign chapters 1 & 2 and it feels like I'm always out of ammo.

Use guns only on for setups or on enemies that are far away. Otherwise just shoot them in the head/arm/leg, run and perform a melee attack.

Not actually that important
Wait, the OP only mentions online co-op?! PS4 doesn't feature couch-cop then, with full aspect-ratio splitscreen (similar to Modern Warfare 2 and RE5 co-op)? It's on sale on EU for €12 but no couch co-op no buy if true.

Hopefully it's just a kinda bad OP by the thread-starter... but I'm scared now -_-

Yes, there's local co-op in all it's offset screen, full aspect-ratio goodness.

I'm currently playing Resi 5 on my PS4 and really enjoying it, which has me tempted to pick up Resi 6 as well while it's on sale. How's the remaster? I wasn't all that fond of it on PS3 but I'm considering giving it another shot, and it's only £9.50.

As far as the current gen remasters, it's the best one. Runs (mostly) buttery-smooth, and by default has a lot of the improvements they added in patches. It's good fun.

Edit: Sorry for the Necro bump. But I just got this game during the winter sale.
Don't know if this has been posted yet.

Spent a few hours trying to find out how to unlock EX3 outfits and heres a post from Jill_Valentinez from GameFaqs who claims to have unlocked them all

-------------------------EX 2 Costumes.

EX 2 - Survivors: Win 10x you should have Leon, Ada, Chris & Helena Costumes.

EX 2 - Team Survivors: Win 10x Jake & Sherry Costumes.

Q: How do I unlock EX 2 costumes in Resident Evil 6?
A: Play the online mode Survivors and Team Survivors.

Q: Do I have to win to obtain the outfits or can I lose and still get them?
A: Yes, you have to actually win to obtain the costumes. You will not get any costumes by losing.

Q: I played Survivor mode and only unlocked Leon, Ada, Chris and Helena's costumes. I can't seem to get Jake's or Sherry's?
A: You can only unlock Leon, Ada, Chris and Helena's costumes in Survivors. You have to play Team Survivors to unlock Jake and Sherry's.

Q: How many times do I have to win to unlock Jake and Sherry's costumes?
A: You have to win 5x to unlock Jake's. Win 10x to unlock Sherry's.

Q: Does it matter what Map I play on?
A: NO, it has been proven it does NOT matter what stage you play on. I unlocked all the outfits from the Rooftop Mission.

Q: Does it matter what Character I use to unlock the costumes?
A: Again, NO. It doesn't matter what characters you're using to unlock the costumes. It's all about winning, not losing.

--------------------EX 3 costumes.

Q: How do I unlock EX 3 "Retro" costumes in Resident Evil 6?
A: Play the online mode: Predator.

Q: Does it matter what stage I play on in Predator mode?
A: Nope. As I've said, unlocking costumes in this game has absolutely nothing to do with what stage or characters you are using.

Q:Does it matter what character I'm using in Predator mode to unlock the costumes?
A: Seriously, shut up already. I said, no.

Q: How come I lost in Predator mode and still unlocked an outfit for someone?
A: Because Predator mode is not based only on "coming in first place". Although you most definitely unlock costumes by killing Agents and killing Ustanak along with coming in first place.

Q: I don't understand, I can unlock outfits even if I don't come in first place?
A: Yes, you do unlock the costumes by killing a certain amount of Agents and a certain amount of times for Ustanak.

Q: What's the best way to unlock the outfits for sure in Predator mode?
A: Create your own private room, set the player limit to 2 and request a friend to jump in and play with you. Have them stand still and let you kill them. This way you're getting the Agent kills, Ustanak kills AND coming in first place. Ensures the fact you're most definitely going to achieve all the outfits.

Q: What if I don't have anyone to do that with?
A: Continue playing Predator mode until you've unlocked all the outfits then. You HAVE to win no matter what.

My wife and I quite enjoyed coop in RE5. Is RE6 similar in quality as a coop game?

In my opinion, no. The co-op actually works very similarly, but the game itself is just not as enjoyable. I loved RE5 when playing co-op and found it to be a very fun game in comparison to the single player experience, which was kind of a poor man's version of RE4. RE6 just did nothing for me in either single player or co-op. It was actually so tedious and frustrating that I couldn't get anyone to do more than a single chapter with me, even the friends I played all of RE5 with. You can probably find the game cheap enough that you're not taking a huge risk by buying it, but I wouldn't presume that liking RE5 means you'll like this.

For those of you familiar with him, Gaming Brit gives his opinion on "Why Resident Evil 6 is Awesome"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neAOruo0OrQ

"It's mechanically great! That means all the other shit wrong with the game doesn't matter!" Every defense of RE6 I've seen devolves into a bunch of gushing about how cool the action looks. He compares it to highly regarded action games like Bayonetta and claims fans should feel the same way about RE6, but doesn't seem to recognize that those games didn't have the giant, crippling faults that he himself admits RE6 has. I don't even consider them to be faults- they're pervasive weaknesses in the game design. Even on this page alone, a lot of fans of the game are talking about how awful the final boss was and how nice it is that Capcom made it less unbearable... a shitty final boss is not exactly a small detail.

At one point he tries to make a point about fans being critical just for the sake of it, and talks about how RE4 had already derailed the series so fans were wrong to complain that RE6 was destroying survival horror... I wish the people who defend this game would address why people still loved RE4. If fans were just primed to hate a RE game that was different... why didn't they loathe the one that introduced plentiful ammo, melee attacks, and gold coins? There's always this argument that people are just closed minded or adverse to an action oriented RE game and that's why RE6 was "unfairly" judged, yet there's irrefutable proof that the fanbase isn't biased in those ways right there in the massive critical and commercial success of RE4. If the game had been consistently well designed and focused, it would have been accepted by the fan base just as RE4 was.

I also had to roll my eyes when he talks about fans wanting to hate the game they just spent $60 on. I really did try to like the game. I got used to the controls and thought they felt great- the praise the game gets there is well deserved. But the rest of the game is still bullshit, with some of the most tedious, uninspired swaths of gameplay I've ever seen in a AAA game. Wandering through the dark, endlessly repeating bunks on the aircraft carrier in Ada's campaign looking for keys... wandering around a mountain in a snowstorm looking for keys... scripted "cool guy running from explosions™" action sequences one after the other... The part where he said "no corners feel like they were cut" makes me want to outright laugh. Come on. Enjoy the game all you want, but don't paint the critics of it as being ignorant or unreasonable for taking issue with some very real faults.

I'd definitely so no as well. I feel like I got swindled by GAF and I only paid like $5 or something for the PC version. I tried playing it coop with my brother because we liked RE5 as well but we couldn't make it though this one. Neither of us were having fun.

Think of RE6 as a brawler disguised as a cover shooter. The game is much more action-y, it relies on you using melees much more than RE5; it's also much more frantic and chaotic; while the gameplay segments in RE5 were more or less constant (third person shooter with some rail shooter thrown in here and there), RE6 throws various gameplay sections at you all the time; it's a real rollercoaster of a game.

The game is also much more janky, of overall lesser quality. As someone once said, RE6 highs are much higher than RE5, but lows are much lower.

I had a fun playing the game, but there were a lot of sections where I scratched my beard thinking "how the hell was this approved?"

There's much more content (it's more than twice the size of RE5), but production values are spread more thinly and inconsistently as a result, leaving some sections looking decidedly shoddy.

The sense of action is heightened, with ideas taken from fighting games such as dodges, counters, tech recovery, and it even has a knock down/wake up game. As such it gets very hectic, and movement is initially awkward for newcomers due to classic tank controls being shoehorned into analogue controls (except when sprinting). In addition, there's a lot to the controls the game simply never tells you, requiring a bit of experimentation.

It's an acquired taste, and opinion is still heavily divided even today, but personally I absolutely love it. It was and still is my favourite game of the PS3/360 era.

Nope. Replayed RE5 with my nephew last Summer and we had an absolute blast with it. Gave RE6 another shot afterwards and we both agreed to give up very quickly. The campaigns just aren't fun.

I will say I disagree here. RE5 was exactly as the bolded described and that game still gets shit on. It fell into the Zelda cycle where RE5 with it's action was "the worst" until RE6 came along with even more action. RE4 was enjoyed by more for having a far better balance of tension/horror than 5 & 6 which was a big part of why the action was accepted. The game was labeled as Survival Action after all, so they nailed the aspect perfectly in the middle of those two genre's that one time.

Also going back to Re6 you'll notice a lot of people who defend the game, defend it purely for the mechanics and story pieces/characters. I'm the first to come out and say Jakes Chapter 2-2 sucks, and criticize the game for all of it's shortcomings.

I have never seen any fan here on Neogaf go "The game is perfect". I will say a good chunk of the criticism is indeed warranted. However on the same hand, I will say that a good chunk of it isn't to an extent. There's a large group who write the game off as being entirely crap with no redeeming qualities which is far from the truth. That is the main thing many fans of the game try to push.
