"I'm not a Panda, i'm Pai Pai!"

Gatchaman Crowds and its sequel were awesome. It's also thematically rather similiar to Persona.

"Never said I wasn't a hypocrite."
All of a sudden my choice for Sun/Moon starters makes so much more sense.

I'm actually surprised at the high amount of people importing P5. I'd rather get the best experience off the bat (not have to fumble around in menus and try and figure out what people are saying) than import then double-dip on western release

Shouldn't be too surprising. One of the most anticipated RPGs ever, six month delay, and importing is more popular than ever.

On the other hand it's going to be absolute hell to dodge spoilers because so many people are going to be talking about it months before the rest of us can even understand it.

Personally, I wonder how many of those people are really going to import it and how many of them are just complaining thinking it's going to cause something to change.

There's plenty of people on here that I can definitely see importing, but others... ehhh.

I'm 50/50. I imported Catherine and wound up being very glad I did because of the Axis Mundi glitch.

I won't be importing, but the gap does concern me. Spoilers aren't a huge deal to me, but I'd rather not hear general impressions of the game. I know that's weird, but I kind of want to avoid a ton of hype or a lot of complaints. Expectations are a weird thing, you know?

So yeah, I don't blame people for importing at all.

Would only consider that if Asia somehow manages to get an Eng Sub Release. LOL

Spoiler rule will most likely be the same, only official footage can be talked about while anything else is spoiler tagged. Since this is an English community, it makes sense to follow the western release, and spoiler tag everything else

I'm importing, for sure. Imported P4G, Ultimax and P4D. Why break a trend?

Not decided if I'm going physical or digital yet. If the 20th Anniversary Soundtrack actually seems like it'll be new content, I'll go physical. Otherwise it's more likely digital.

On a different note, I've been thinking about where the PV04 theme might play. The chorus is definitely the second chorus of the main theme (The first chorus for it plays in the latest gameplay video), but the arrangement, particularly on the verses, is completely different.
My current thought is that it might be a late-boss arrangement. I've seen a few people say they think it's a standard battle theme, but I think the chances of that are extremely slim.

Out of curiosity, where did you pick up Japanese? Courses? Self-taught?

Importing comes up so rarely, I'd never guess you know the language at all.

What do you think will be the arcanas of our party members?

Ryuji - Chariot (confirmed)
Morgana - Star (maybe same as Teddie)
Anne - I thought Lovers at first, but then again she isn't popular like Yukari or Rise, so it's probably not really fitting. Fortune or Moon are a better fit imho.
Yusuke - Emperor seems like a logical fit, but also Tower, considering how arrogant he seems to be.
Makoto - I can't imagine anything else besides Justice. Edit: Priestess is also an option.
Futaba - Hermit would be my guess as she's hiding herself and plays a supportive role.
Haru - Priestess maybe, but that doesn't fit her thief personality. I am pretty sure she has some big problems with her family but will still act mostly cheerful, so Sun is my bet.
Goro - Too early for me to tell. I don't know if the short scenes of him in the stream told us enough about him.

I think this time no female party member will be the Lovers.
Watch out how it will be Makoto's sister/mother

Makoto is almost certainly Preistess. There's this:

And the fact that her Persona, Pope Joan, is generally considered to be the priestess the arcana is named for.

Futaba is also confirmed Hermit.

You're right of course, sometimes the Priestess arcana is even named The Popess to be the female counterpart to the Pope (Hierophant).

I somehow missed Futaba being confirmed, but it was the obvious choice.
So basically we're only missing five party members.

Going on the tarot cards on the website, it might be La Papesse in P5 too, as they seem to be using the Marseilles tarot as a base in the game. The Hierophant is The Pope (well, Le Pape), for example.

Anne being the Fortune seems pretty obvious, yes.

Yusuke always screamed Moon since he's an art student, but he would be the first party member with the Tower arcana, so I would be cool with that as well.

Just had a nightmarish thought.

What if copyright/licensing issues alter the in game music for the NA release?
I need that sweet jazzy greatness.

Hopefully thats never been an issue before but right now I am playing Tales of the Abyss on PS2 and the theme song is missing the vocals on the NA version and I read that it was because of licensing issues. :X

That should depend on the contract between Lyn and Atlus, but there's not really a precedent for something like this with Persona, right?

You should be more worried about Zorro getting renamed and possibly modified since Zorro is apparently an actual legal nightmare.

I'll import, and probably only know what's going on about 30% of the time. (I'd like to go into a Persona game without being spoiled for once!) I'll definitely be picking up the English version on release, too. You're absolutely right about it not being the best experience off the bat, but I figure I'm better off spoiling myself whilst only kinda knowing what's going on, instead of inevitably ending up wandering into a spoiler before the English release. I know Japanese fans would have been unimpressed about a delay on their end, but it would have been great to get a simultaneous release so we don't have to spoiler-dodge for months.

I thought Zorro was public domain like Sherlock, Cinderella, Snow white, Robin Hood, etc. Is that not the case??

It's a rather complicated situation. There is a company called "Zorro Productions, Inc." that claims the copyright and trademark for Zorro and they have been filing a number of lawsuits against Zorro related projects in the past. I actually have no idea what's going on and from some things I've read about this I get the feeling that nobody knows.

Interesting thing: Hardin apparently told Ben Moore that there's an aspect to the dungeons that nobody has guessed yet.

I have a feeling it has to do with the boss percentage meter in the top left of the screen.

This is kinda of comical to be honest.

I wish it was a joke.

To quote their website: "Zorro Productions Inc. controls the trademarks and copyrights in the name, visual likeness and the character of Zorro. The brand is represented worldwide by over thirty-five licensing agents for all media and ancillary products. John Gertz, President and CEO, has been guiding the brand for over thirty-five years through major films, television, stage productions, publishing projects and promotions in addition to thousands of licensed products."

Yeah it probably that
My guess is that you have to clear certain objectives in a dungeon and the score goes up , when it gets to 100% the boss becomes avaible to fight, maybe a door unlocks or something

Maybe atlus jp already paid the licensing?
Honestly, licensing Zorro when you are not even the creator of the character is a bit fucked up, but such is the law I guess

Pretty sure the number goes down, rather than up.

I'd say it goes up, given that we've seen it at 0% in the E3 footage.

I'm not sure specifically to what John Hardin is refering to, but I have some theories:

In one of the translated screenshots that were released this week, there's a scene where the gang is hanging on the roof and you have two options: "Enter the Dungeon" or something about "Set up your Plan". We also know that a big part of dungeons is finding the map. I don't think dungeons are a linear experience at all, but rather that you're setting up a heist over time. We know that you can complete objectives and get new objectives in the post-dungeon playthrough report, as seen in PV04. We also see that one of the objectives is to "Get the Treasure". It's unclear if this refers to a lot of different treasure you're stealing, or one big piece of treasure. It's worth noting that in one of the screenshots, we can see the gang carrying off a huge crown. It's the same crown worn by the boss, so I wonder if that's before or after you kill the boss. We also know that at some point, one of Sakura's tasks is to create an escape route.

Basically, I think the idea is that dungeons are centered around completing a bunch of specific objectives and completing those raises the percentage until you're ready to make a move on the main piece of treasure/boss's heart.

My other theory is that that boss% counter is the amount of time you can spend in the dungeon in any one session. Once it reaches 100%, you absolutely have to book it, because the "boss" is on to you. It'd be a return to the fatigue of 3, in a way. It would keep people from just beating a dungeon in one go.

Meter shows up when they enter a certain room at 5%. Pops up again just before they grab the item, still at 5%. Resets to 0 after the first demon battle. Shows up again at 0 at the start of the switch puzzle, and stays up in between pulling switches. Maybe making a mistake there would have increased it?

Famitsu posted a summary of the character design Q&A with Soejima:

- Soejima has basically free reign while designing the characters. The only thing has to keep in mind is that the characters need to be appealing to the players.
- Character design begins during the game's conceptual phase. The protagonist is usually the first character to be finalized as he serves as the game's poster child.
- Soejima likes short-haired women which is why Makoto is his favorite P5 character. Morgana is easy to draw.
- Soejima's private drawings are different from his work on Atlus games. Famitsu wonders whether that means that we will see a different aspect of Soejima in the future.
- Soejima's decision to become a character designer was influenced by his love for fighting games.
- Soejima always enjoys looking at fan art and encourages fan to mail their work to Atlus.
- His favorite television programs are actually news broadcasts. He also enjoys Power Rangers and Pretty Cure since they give children good rolemodels. The host (John Hardin?) asked him about his favorite Gundam series - it's the first one.
- He doesn't have a particular interest in collaborations, but he's open to fan suggestions. He would like to design the characters for a new Gundam series, though.

I didn't quite get what he was saying when he was talking about his dream project. Sorry about that.
