God of War is probably the only game series where ratings gets me hyped

The horse the son kicks before he enters the hut is (I believe, although it's said to have 8 legs not 6) Sleipnir, Odin's steed; Odin being the toy he's playing with that he fights the troll with. It also appears that the version of Odin the boy is playing with is Odin Weapon Dancer which is Odin as he walked on earth and not Odin the God.

Are they Easter eggs or is it a clue that the son can't possibly be Odin?

He says something about a hammer when play fighting with the troll, kinda figured it was supposed to be a Thor statue.

Coming from someone who didn't give a crap about this series after 2, I have to say these small details are really cool. I totally missed the scales at the end, thanks for pointing them out OP.

so is Odin during his "Weapon Dancer" phase a mortal?

I'm not entirely sure. He is very often referred to as a 'man'. In Norse mythology, we tend to hear tales of how the Gods once walked the earth but I believe this version of God Of War is around the time when they actually DID walk the earth. Not men as such but certainly not Gods either. I suppose we'd call them demigods.

So is it possible that he might actually be good friends with Kratos since his son is playing with a figure of Odin

maybe they know each other?

Until I see actual gameplay footage and not kratos slowly hacking away with his tree axe on a skeleton, I'm dubious of everything they say. The exp, the ellie/elizabeth helper button, the dumb title despite it supposedly being a sequel, nothing here sounds right about GoW. Change is fine, but the DNA has been changed. Am I going to be able to grab onto a large enemy and the camera will just pan out as I press the right buttons to take it down? We went from a fps plague to a tps plague. The Last of Us was a mistake.

WTF is this shit?

I know of Nifelheim as a black metal band. What's the place like though? Land of ice and fog? Sort of like...purgatory or something?

I think it's funny that the impression is that we will be stuck in over the shoulder mode for some of the epic boss fights.

If previous God of War games are any indication, camera angles will shift and alter as the dynamics of the battle change. I never once doubted that they wouldn't have epic scale boss battles. The section they showed in that demo was just that, a singular section of the game. I think the new camera angle evokes the same kind of change we got in Resident Evil 4; a seemingly minor switch in perspective elevated the game presentation. God of War has the benefit of being produced on the latest console tech, however, so I think the results are going to be damn impressive. Maybe not a paradigm shift for action adventure games, but perhaps one for the God of War series. Not having the Blades of Chaos is, for me, an even bigger change than the camera angle. They really don't seem to be resting on their laurels and relying on franchise conventions from a base game design perspective.

It seems very interesting, that Kratos wants to try to get away from his past...yet he still wears his Spartan Dress, carries the Greek Omega symbol on his back etc....

You would think he would try and get away from that and start a new beginning....i mean his life as a Spartan turned him into this machine of rage..yet somehow he can't let it go

Okay those gifs in the OP changed my opinion on this game from lukewarm to hyped. I want me some norse boss fights.

Only played GoW 1 and 2, should I just do 3 beforehand or are the PSP games and Ascension worth my time?

I'd play 3 because it was awesome and because this is the sequel and I'd play the psp games also. You can skip ascension as I though it was the weaker one.

In the trailer the camera angle shift quite often.

at least we know based on what we seen

that Kratos has a better relationship with his son

then he did with his dad

Given the deer scene I imagine we will see something very similar to this, just in a different context. ie. A mercy killing done of love rather than hate from his son.

Ugh, Kratos' story was justifiable (by VIDYA GAME standards at least) until the end of GoW2 -*maybe* the end of the intro to GoW3. Then It was just murder porn Kill Kill Kill Kill, fuck Aphrodite, Kill Kill Kill. I hope they redeem the franchise in this regard. Can we at least have the story make sense?

Kratos needs to be allied with Thor......they need to have a brotherly love type relationship where they pretty much beat up each other and then go for drinks later....

it was unjustifiable from the start of GoW 2, he became worse than Ares ever was and wouldn't back down despite several warnings. Zeus was completely in the right.

First of all, and I am sorry I didn't mention this in OP but only later on, I do not want to take any credit for finding those, I just summarized some things I found here on NeoGAF, posted by other fellow Gaffers.

Second of all...

A NeoGAF user by the name of, uh, "Bitch Pudding" … has found three potential foes lurking in the background of Kratos' snowy romp.

WTF, what's so funny about my nick name?!

(I laughed)

I'm just now getting caught up on e3 Sony announcements . Sorry if these questions have been answered already . Just excited for info since I'm just now getting caught up on Sonys new games .

Is Kratos in this new game Kratos from the previous trilogy or is this a reincarnation of that Kratos in a different mythology or universe ?

Does the kid end up tagging along the whole game ? Wasn't much of a fan of that choice . Elle was endearing in the Last of Us , wasn't too convinced this kid won't become grating .

Did the developers give the reasoning for the new mythology choice over not continuing the Greek mythology they set up ? Did they consider Asian , African , or their own made up mythology as well ?

Very cool . Thanks for answering . I'm assuming SSM is keeping under wraps how Kratos ended up in his current state . I'm a bit confused , this is still the same earth or world the previous games took place on ? So the Greek and Norse mythology's gods exist(ed) in the same space in some capacity? I guess we don't know yet haha.

Yeah, that has to be the Midgard Serpent / Jörmungandr / World Serpent: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jörmungandr

"the middle child of the giantess Angrboða and Loki. According to the Prose Edda, Odin took Loki's three children by Angrboða—the wolf Fenrir, Hel, and Jörmungandr—and tossed Jörmungandr into the great ocean that encircles Midgard.[2] The serpent grew so large that it was able to surround the earth and grasp its own tail.[2] As a result, it received the name of the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent. When it lets go, the world will end. Jörmungandr's arch-enemy is the god Thor. It is an example of an ouroboros."
