Do these official emulators offer any form of CRT emulation like MAME has (i.e. HLSL)? IMO it makes the games feel much more authentic.

Would this be considered a "definitive collection" of sorts, the best of Neo Geo?

Not even close. There are many good games missing from that list. But it's a start.

Shock Troopers 2 at the highest tier? Isn't that game considered trash compared to the first one? Surely they could have found something more enticing in place of that.

The encore bundle has more Steam keys this time around for Baseball Stars 2, Metal Slug 2, Shock Troopers, and Twinkle Star Sprites. And better yet, if you bought the bundle back in December, you get the keys! Very cool.

I got the bundle, but man, the sound is off!

I guess if you don't normally play these games on actual hardware, you wouldn't notice. I'm a stupid Neo Geo elitist.

I can't believe this all is only ten bucks. I guess this is enough motivation to try getting a nice emulator going again. What files go where now?

By the way, after you install the games you can copy the ROMs right out of the files and put them into your own emulators. I just run them all in Retroarch.

Haha, seriously? Is the only differrnce between this and a regular emulator basically that one is illegal and one isnt?

Emulators like MAME have always been legal; this is just a more convenient way to legally acquire ROMs to play on them.

This is a legal way to get your hands on the ROMS of the games.

Most (if not all) emulators are legal.

I got a stick since the last bundle so I'm definitely in for $10 this time.

MSX is my favorite Metal Slug. I highly recommend it. And '02 UM is definitely one of the best KOFs. Netplay is bad though, if I remember correctly.

The steam version of 02um has decent netcode, not to play across 2 continents, but good enough for a country.

Baseball Stars 2 isn't a good port, without a save option, it will be nearly impossible to beat the game

Seeing people say you can run the non steam versions in emulators. I havent messed with them since the early 2000s.

Anyone have any suggestions on whats cool or "standard" now? I see theres some fancy front ends and such.

thanks in advance!

Really hoping Garou comes to Steam soon

I'll repost something I wrote in another thread

A word of advice: The emulation is by DotEmu, who are total hacks and the absolute worst company in the emulation/port business. The standalone emulator for the games is garbage: unskippable splash screens, no access to the service mode settings beside difficulty level, no support for DirectInput controllers... etc.

But, the neo geo BIOS and raw roms can be obtained from the program folder when you download the stand-alone executables, so you can use them with better emulators. Which you should.

Beside legal roms, the bundle is totally worth it for KOF 98 UM and 2002 UM.

Here's a code for THE KING OF FIGHTERS '98 ULTIMATE MATCH FINAL EDITION on Steam.

Quote to reveal and post to let everyone know when you take it.

So, if I understand correctly. In the original bundle, KOF 98, KOF 2002, and Metal Slug 3 were Steam codes while the rest were ROMs, but this new bundle that's the same now has steam codes for other games that didn't before? If so, which ones are they, and how are they?

Edit: beaten, thanks.

Hmm, this would be so up my alley and in my bloodstream if it weren't for the small number of Steam games (play in my browser...:/) and the sketchiness of DotEMU. If I do pick this up, can I just take a zip file out of the individual game's folder and copy it over into Final Burn Alpha's ROM folder? Or is it more complicated?

Nah it's easy peasy
Once you've download the game and extracted/installed it, go to its installation folder and there is the game.zip for you to play on a better emulator.

Use a more accurate emulator. Instead of the crap one that comes with the bundle. You are paying for legal roms, so using a prefered Neo-Geo Emulator of your choice with better sound shouldn't be an issue.

Humble Bundle says my keys for Metal Slug 2 and 3 are unredeemed, but I have them in my Steam library. Not sure if I already used them, so they might not work. Quote to reveal.

Metal Slug 3

Metal Slug 2 does not work, or maybe someone redeemed it right away

When I checked this afternoon the new Steam keys were there for me to redeem. Just checked now and they have disappeared. :/
