Hopefully there's more to it than just running over people. I can do that in GTA V all day.

It's been a very long time since I've played a Carmageddon game.

Edit** ...aaaaand that biker just got cut in half. Well, it's certainly more graphic than I expected. I figured they'd wimp out.

Tasteless, based on that gif. I don't like doing random shit to people in GTA so I will be avoiding the fuck out of this game. In fact I'd rather forget that everything I saw in this thread.

That's the point. It's the Mortal Kombat of car games.

Umm sarcasm?

You clicked a Carmageddon thread. What did you expect?

You really should play it if you've never played one before. It's a vehicular car combat racing game. The first 2 were amazing. *edit: and it looks like you have played since you get it. I totally misread what you wrote.

I think they're trying to make these like the originals. But much, much more gory.

I didn't know this existed...last I heard was the early access remake of the original Carmegeddon the PC. Sounds like this is the same thing but finished with a couple new features. I may be in the minority here, but I actually loved the completely batshit insane sandbox, no hand-holding that was the original Carmegeddon and the new damage model alone makes this appetizing. I found this nice video that sums up the new bits:

Anyone who has played the original will immediately recognize the locations as being pretty much exactly the same.

I'm glad I get it for free as a Reincarnation owner. Seeing as Reincarnation is pretty decent now I expect this to be some fun. Still think 2 is a better feeling game though.

Can't believe we're getting a new Carmageddon on consoles. So down for this.

Just need a new Twisted Metal for this gen too!

Wow, I bought Reincarnation too in early access. I didn't know I was getting this on PC too!

Hopefully the game has some meat to it. Definitely interested.

Carmageddon does not take itself seriously in a "kill them all!" Manner (unlike Hatred).

It' more like "omg i just sent a granny flying accross the map with a giant spring lol!". As the developers say, Carmageddon's humour could be compared to Looney Tunes mixed with dark humour, it's not gorey just for shock value.

I understand that not everybody enjoys that kind of humour, though.

As for the game, I am looking forward to it. Had lots of fun with Reincarnation on Pc. It's a pity the engine is quite old and thus some of the textures are low-res (same engine that powered Carmageddon2 in 1998, but improved over the years) but gameplay-wise this game is awesome. And the multiplsyer kicks ass too

Are you saying that Reincarnation uses the same engine, and somehow textures, from Carmageddon 2? source??

It uses Stainless' engine, Beelzebub. Textures are new, but some of them are quite low-ress, I guess due to the engine's limitations.

Of course the engine has improved over the years, but the first iterations of Reincarnation pre-alpha only used one core of the CPU (just like Carmageddon 2 did)

I have very fond memories of Carmageddon 2. Still remember some of the missions: like kill all the mental patients that escaped from the mental institution.

Haven't tried any of the newer version, should I?
(I also really liked the car combat, the big spring weapon etc.)

I don't think the PC version is coming in July. The website makes no mention of the PC version at all and the announcement on Reincarnation's Steam Community hub just says "when Carmageddon: Max Damage is released on PC", plus there's still no store page.

Aah, I see. They used their in house engine, then.

From your post I understood that they were using the same tech and assets from Carma2, when they're not. You could probably have said the same thing about Mario Galaxy graphics being low res because it used the Mario 64 engine.

Will support a likely broke as fuck release on PS4

Been waiting years for this since they were supposed to port Reincarnation initially

I had a lot of good times with Carmageddon 2 on LAN, nice to see the series back again but the previous release did not inspire confidence.

Well, basically they are relaunching Reincarnation with more content and in a polished state to stay away from the lukewarm reception of Reincarnation.

After all the work they put into Reincarnation and seeing how the game looks solid (in Ps4 version, at least) Stainless deserves a seconf chance. Hope the game runs well and has a more welcome reception.

Why did you come in here then? Looks like fun and what I remember carmageddon 2 being back in the day

That wheelchair kill lol

I will buy this even tho I don't think it will be good. I think I loved these games before because I had the brain of a 12 year old because I was 12 years old.

The Joker put on a lot of weight lol

Remember playing the original on my PC, only the demo though, loved it as a teenager, haven't really grown up since then.

I didn't mind the PC version (kickstarted), but my PC needs an upgrade bad. I'll be picking up a physical version of this for the PS4 (to finally make good on a cancelled EB Games pre-order for Carmageddon on the PS1).

Back in '97 I was so hyped for Carmageddon, the best thing reincarnation gave us was the smart phone version of the original, still very playable to this day.

I think because I was such a fan of the first two games I'll probably be getting this on day one. Would have gotten Reincarnation on day one if I had a PC that could play it.

Fingers crossed its half-decent.

hm, I'm curious how they handle the people who get this for free (Kickstarter of the first game). Can't remember what the last mail was stating.

If you own the Reincarnation on Steam, Max Damage will just be added to your existing Reincarnation licence at some point in the future and suddenly appear in your library. This is something Stainless can quickly and easily do itself via the Steamworks Product Data site. Even on the console side, I doubt you'll have to register an additional key.

Spoiler alert, in Carmageddon you do random shit to people, rather than only missions.
