CD Projekt Red - "NX Will Be Fantastic" [Up: Umm... err... well... haha?]

3DS support is a lot different from securing AAA or even AA console exclusives in this day and age. THey would have to have a userbase like PS4 to and a momentum on that level to secure that kind of thing.

or at least the userbase for that to make sense in japan only. nintendo could get a lot of support if they could even do gba numbers up against ps4.

monster hunter is a game that could go multiplatform. in fact, capcom probably has been thinking about it - but if nintendo has this rad new handheld in 2017 and monster hunter 5 can be a launch title and have nintendo's worldwide support in continuing to grow the franchise (as they've done for the last three years), then that means they can even secure a game like that in this climate.

the same is true of other, similar titles like dragon quest, sonic, and yo-kai watch. i think that by and large, japan will view ps4 and nx as one platform like the west views ps4 and xb1 as one platform, but in addition, there will be opportunities for nintendo to still cultivate those kinds of partnerships going forward.

The only problem is, that it never worked for a home console world wide and that is a fact. Even if Nintendo supports the NX with the same amount of games they earlier had split on two devices, it wouldn't work. The people want more than Nintendo games on their home console. They want their Battlefields, GTA, Fifa and that kind of stuff. Otherwise you never gather the game crowd.

This. Nintendo's offering, as good as it is, will never be enough to justify buying a product (or even a product line if you count both the handheld and the home console) for only one kind of offering. They are not able to support it with a diverse set of software spanning over the most popular genres, and certainly not in the state they're in.

Their development is centered around Japan that caters to a certain kind of games, their only other two studies were charged with platformers (Retro) or minor software projects (NST) and were not able to re-explore traditional Western genres with their own 'Nintendo flavour'. You can despise Western games as much as you want, and for sure many aspects you criticize are valid points, but look at BotW: It's a game that has absorbed so many modern Western elements, it modified them in a way people got excited beyond the normal level of healthy hype.

So yes, BotW is for me evidential that Western taste is needed to break up Nintendo's staleness and it will be successful with the audience. Nobody will lose anything with this kind of investment but we will gain so much more from expanding our Nintendo centric horizon. Now the issue is very clear here. As stated before Nintendo themselves do not posses the physical capability to solve this task, despite having the cash and countless opportunities they haven't invested in additional Western studios in over a decade. The only option to compensate this is recultivating a market for 3rd parties in one way or another. In the long run Nintendo can't compete in their current form only relying on diehard Nintendo fans.

The original Zelda was the ultimate western game. In fact I bet under Link's hoodie you could actually see that he was a 30yo bald man.

But the right product *can* attract non-Nintendo-only gamers, at least in the early phase of the platform lifecycle.

This didn't work as it could have with the Wii because third parties were so invested in PS360 development (and probably also were convinced it was going to be a fad lasting just a couple of months - they were wrong) that they took a full, astonishing 24+ months to realize the Wii was going to stay.

But by then it was already too late, no matter how many "test ports" (really, Capcom? so much money left on the table it's not even funny) proved there might actually have been a core audience to cultivate.

So, going back to NX and assuming Nintendo isn't going to pull another disappointing, unfocused mess like the WiiU, I believe any early decent effort in third parties support might lead to beneficial outcomes to both the latter and the platform holder.

The Wii says hello. Your fact is wrong. How many GTA and Battlefields were ever released on the Wii?

The Wii has sold millions of CoDs BUT was a lightning un a bottle. Something that will never hppen again because it applied to consumers which never played a game before. They all moved to smartphones and browser games and don't care for a console anymore or they evolved from a casual gamer to a gamer who needs more than swinging around a baseball bat.
And in the the last few years it hurted the Wii a lot that they couldn't get those games you mentioned. You had 100 million people owning your console but after the Wiimote honeymoon they needed more stuff and something with deeper game mechanics. They were ready but Nintendo couldn't deliver because their console hadn't the content and then the costumer moved on.

Shouldn't this thread basically be over? I mean a comment was made it has now be stated to of been made in jest and there is nothing really else to expound upon. I've seen this thread on the front page for days, but judging by that past few pages it is just tangentially connected to the original thread.
Yeah, can't bishop just post in the closed thread?

I guess Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Smash Brothers, New Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Country and Link Cross Bow Training purchasers were only lighting in a bottle customers. (The games listed sold over 5 million copies I could list other "core" games that sold over a million on the platform as well like Metroid Prime 3, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Resident Evil 4 and Call of Duty titles)

What hurt the Wii U, was that Nintendo didn't have any software that displayed the potential of the Gamepad. Two, third parties are always complaining that they can't sell on Nintendo's software and they continuously go out of their way to sabotage any possible success on Nintendo platforms (bad games, low or non-existent marketing, games missing features important features i.e. lack of local multiplayer and often fail to implement features that would actually enhance gameplay i.e. Minecraft without gamepad support for inventory management). Thirdly, previous points mention is typically disregard currently Neogaf posters. During the launch of the Wii U and the 3DS Nintendo left the field open for any third party to step up to release a system seller on their platform. Third parties release utter trash, filth and tragedy. So, quite frankly, I don't trust third parties when it comes to them genuinely supporting Nintendo's platform(s) with quality titles.

They've been promoting and pushing the series in the west ever since the original Tri on the Wii in 2010.

I don't know about the USA, but Tri had a big advertising campaign in europe. I was sort of out of games at the time and even I remember when Tri launched.

I agree with your position !

You are not wrong , but I don't think that example works today. I knew a lot of people who didn't game in the GAF sense ie visit forums daily and think and talk about games multiple times a day , who owned wiis. It was a cultural phenomenon and a fad. It went mainstream, as in, a must have gadget for everyone, not spefically a video game console for just gamers. A entertainment toy for the masses thanks to games like wii sports. For example, We had wii bowling nights at people's home who never really gamed before or since.Morning talk show hosts were talking about it to middle America and soccer moms etc.. Blue ocean, Novelty. I would argue wii transcended videogame console and went into "pet rock" territory.

For NX to be a smashing financial success it either need to replicate that novelty or entice 3rd party support so it can be readily adapted by the majority gaming crowd as a viable one console solution. This financial success and install base benefits "core" Nintendo fans because they are more apt to release titles/ hire more teams and take risks with more opportunities to sell games. It is easier to turn a profit with 30 million installs than 10..your product can be adopted by the same percentage and still turn a profit. There are stakeholders in Nintendo and a lot of sway is given to the shareholder percentages of stakeholders. It is a business. Battlefield/GTA=Metroid

Lol NX NDA's are that big nothing can leak on them, put Neo and Scorpio gets all kinds of leaks

Or... western teams are working on the latter two and not on the first one?
Japanese support could actually be under nda (and we even got SE and KOEI official confirmation about their support) but western teams so silent cant mean anything good

A correction is warranted here.

The above has been debunked thousands of times just in this message board alone. Numbers of Nintendo franchises speak for themselves:

*Courtesy of Celine fantastic thread.

Everything from their "Family Oriented" software to it's more "Core Oriented" Nintendo software got a boost in sales in relation to other consoles. Vacuum Cleaner analogies such as "gathering dust" are not applied to something like the GC for some strange reason. Nintendo tried to serve the dust commentators with the Wii U and here we are again with our traditional sales decline curve.

The Honey Moon ended when Nintendo strong support of the console ended. Third parties did an awful job supporting the device because the gross of their development efforts were in the HD consoles. And to be clear, im not saying 3rd parties were wrong following that busyness model.

It seriously feels like you guys would buy 10 time shares considering how gullible you people are.

So let me get this straight

The NX is, based on the rumors,
A Handheld
Console
Is both a handheld and a console
Stronger than the Xbox One
As weaker as the PS4
Powered by Tegra
Powered by AMD
Powered by ARM
Will, despite not being X86 if it's power by ARM or Tegra, have no problem with porting games
Will have a screen on the controller
Will have no buttons
Will have buttons

Funny how the only rumors you people always deny no matter what is that it could possibly be as strong wit the PS4 Neo.

First of all, Tegra uses ARM, and using an AMD GPU doesn't exclude using an ARM CPU either. Second, for the millionth time, ARM isn't a notable barrier for ports since it's very widely supported; the CPU just needs to be strong enough.

It is so ironic of you use Persona as an example. Atlus and Nintendo just released a game on the Wii U in United States call Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. Also, the 3DS did get a Persona spinoff. (and in all honestly it didn't make any sense without the Nintendo audience having access to Persona 3 and Persona 4 at) Furthermore, NIS and Koei Tecmo seems to be possibly on broad with whatever the NX is, according to their investor report.
I think you misunderstand: I'd love to be wrong (even if Japanese support is not as quality as it once was). I just think Japan going completely bullish on NX is unlikely. I think it'll mostly be the Nintendo version exclusives, hopefully 3DS support, and then the most ambitious multiplatform titles. I'd love it if there is a successful Nintendo handheld Japan is completely behind; even better if I can play those games on a home console. The combination of mobile, PS exclusivity inertia with niche games and money hatting with bigger ones, etc. could really cut into the catalog especially if big games don't come early to push the install base and make NX a more attractive ecosystem.

Third party support for NX will start with Japan, but I don't see what reason we have to believe it'll be more than continuity and parity would provide, at most likely best thing to happen. I think it is markedly less likely that companies abandon exclusivity for smaller titles with some designed for Nintendo handheld, Nintendo branded efforts for home console, and others for PS. Perhaps NX handheld proves itself against modern mobile and can play PS3/PS4 targeted games or even PS4 targeted games and perhaps PS4 adoption continues to be sluggish so that even niche titles look for further or new pastures. That's a lot of ifs; pretty much a perfect storm where Nintendo completely takes back Japan and would possibly even revitalize it with more support being on a healthy, leading platform that pushes lower cost development. That seems like too much of a dream come true. Especially when things aren't particularly secure even in Nintendo's own corner with mobile attracting their traditional support.

I'm not saying this as some jealous Sony fanboy marking out his territory and poo pooing Nintendo dreams. I don't own a PS4 or a Vita and think PS3 was a bad investment last generation. I'm saying this as, if anything, a Nintendo fanboy.

Remember, the system is scheduled to launch in March

Madden 17 comes out in August (seven months before NX launch)
Fifa 17 comes out in September (six months before NX launch)

There's no way you can expect those games to sell a bunch on NX in March for $60 when it'll be $15-30 on PS4/XB1 at that time. Madden 16 was already "Free" on EA Access by late February.

You either have to do "Buy Madden 17, get free download of Madden 18 when it comes out!" or you just announce well in advance that Madden/Fifa 18 are coming to NX.

Third parties need to commit to supporting NX for at least a year or two and not just bring over late ports for $60 that are frankly, doomed because of the retail price difference.

I don't really understand people's obsession with learning NX details now. It's only a matter of time and there's no way knowing today could benefit you.

It's excitement and curiosity for a product from a company that many game enthusiasts care about. I mean is this new to you? Have you never been around for a console's launch? Sorry but this is kind of a bizarre thing to say when you're on a game forum with hundreds of pages of discussion about the Neo, Scorpio as well as the NX. People really care about new consoles. It's like questioning why people want to know what gifts they got before Christmas.

We at least know Ubisoft is working on NX even if it's only a Just Dance port. Leaks could come from here.
