Xbox Elite Controller |OT| That's a paddlin'

Are any of you going to buy the Gears of War 4 elite?

I'd really like to, but don't think I can justify it at about $250. The claw marks are really neat, though, and the colouring is quite nice.

Why are the convex thumbsticks so much taller than the normal ones? I just want a stick that's the same height that's easier on the thumbs. The normal thumbsticks are way too rough.

It does look great, but I can't justify paying $150 again for an Elite let alone $200 or more.

I've had the Elite controller for a while now. Started playing Halo 5 with all 4 paddles, and the medium sticks. Today I took the paddles off and went back to the normal sticks, and I couldn't do it. I felt severely limited without the paddles.

As someone who doesn't have the Elite, what did you have the paddles set to do, and is it that much of an upgrade to movement/whatever action you have set to the paddles?

Top Left Paddle - Run
Bottom Left Paddle - Change grenade type

Top Right Paddle - Jump
Bottom Right paddle - Thrust

I also use the Elite controller on my PC (for Witcher 3). I can't remember the profile I have set up for it, but it also worked well. You don't realize how often you take your thumbs off of the sticks in games until you have the paddles available to you.

Less than a year into owning this controller, the right arrow on my dpad does not work. Unpaired/repaired with a different console, used both types of dpads and it's definitely the controller. Of course, when I talk to Microsoft they tell me I'm SOL and have to buy another one for $150 since I'm out of warranty. 90 day warranty, are you kidding me?

I'm tired of this shit breaking. Never again Microsoft.

Must suck living in a country with such bad consumer rights. Here in Germany Microsoft has to guarantee at least a 1 year warranty. But good guy Microsoft actually does 2 for accessories and 3 for the console.

That's pretty nice. Here in the USA I believe it's 1 year for the console and 90 days for accessories (completely stupid).

same here. i want a convex stick that is the same height as the regular ones for my left thumbstick.

they were promising us we'd get all types of custom sets and yet we still haven't gotten a fucking thing

Same here, I want a short convex and a medium concave, but neither comes with the controller. It's been 8 months and the only accessories available are the overpriced Halo pack at Gamestop. (rofl $40 for 4 paddles, 4 thumbsticks, and 2 d-pads)

I was hoping we'd be able to buy 1 stick, or 1 paddle, of varying style/length/shapes.

are you a primarily Playstation player? Because I mostly hate convex. The regular X1 thumbs are perfect for me.

Scuf gaming was supposed to release all types of shit for the elite controller, being as they're the official third party accessories partner. But of course Scuf is a horrible company with a terrible track record and so a year later and we still have nothing from them.

By new design you are referring to the Gears4 one?

nope the gear one is the same. The new controllers that you can customize that also come with the S model. Those bumpers feel very different but I'm just speculating until a teardown is done.

On a high note my replacement part i ordered from china (off amazon) came today and my Elite is back in business.

It is not a easy thing to fix the reassembly is very tedious.

the new controllers are these
https://xboxdesignlab.xbox.com/

microsoft stores have them on display i was able to check them out last week they feel better. we will see.

Does anyone else hear a metallic whirring when their controller vibrates? I've had it for a week or two and never noticed, but I usually play with headphones. I hear it in Inside and it is annoying.

Anyone have a good profile for arkham knight? Right now I'm just running A on a paddle so I can run while controlling the camera, which is awesome!

What part did you replace exactly?

Really want to buy one of these, but considering the standard Xbox One controller is getting the revised S controller in August with Bluetooth, it stands to reason that the Elite could be revised soon too.

Yeah, I've been wondering about that myself.

Although the Gears one looks nice, who knows if they'll just turn around and announce a revised Elite (with Bluetooth and perhaps more) right after it's released?

Guess I'll have to wait. I was going to get an elite but only thing I don't like about these controllers are the bumpers. If they are better with the new controllers I'll just stick to kb/m until then.

Got this yesterday and I love it, but super paranoid about something breaking though. I think I'm going to get the best buy extended warranty to be safe. I also want to get another set of sticks even though I'm using stick covers already. Is there a site that has popular setups because there's only some 1st party official settings in the app?

Not sure if this true or not because I didn't hear it myself, but

I'm sure it will get a redesign eventually but during E3 Phil gave an interview saying they are happy where the Elite controller is right now so no revision planned yet.

27 days since my replacement was apparently shipped. Still not received. Shocking stuff for an item that's in warranty and costs so much. Not happy about this.

Which new bumpers? I've just got an Elite and also have a Forza special edition as well as a launch vanilla controller. The Forza one is stated to have the redesigned bumpers and headphone jack and the Elite has the same features and feels exactly the same. I'm not sure that the new One S controllers have any redesigns in that area, and the Elite has no new edition in the pipeline (other than the GOW paintjob)

I've used the Forza one extensively and never had any issues with the bumpers or anything else so hopefully the Elite will perform just as well.

Didn't someone post something about the new controllers feeling much better, especially the bumpers? I think the ones coming with the S and the ones you can design yourself.

Question for the guys that have used this thing for hundreds of hours. Do you guys recommend a controller skin? I'm just worried because my hands can get sweaty and I don't want the controller to get worn and smell. I found one on amazon that I'm considering.

Just got mine from the $130 Amazon sale. It's got a nice, solid weight to it and everything feels very premium. I'm still not sure if it's $130-nice, but I'll give it a test run for the next couple weeks and then decide if I want to keep it or return it.

One small complaint: what's with the micro USB port on the controller? It's an extremely tight fit.
That's what she said.

Do these controllers always give off a constant slight buzz/hum that you can hear if you hold it up to your ear? I know I'm being super paranoid, but I could have sworn that I felt something move in the controller and never noticed that sound before.

Yup, you're right. Just held my brand new one up to my ear and there's a faint whirring sound. Weird.

it can be annoying but it loosens up after you stick it in enough ;)

Lol, good to hear.

So I just finished a game of Madden with the Elite controller, and it really performed beyond my expectations. I don't know if my Day 1 controller was defective or what, but this thing was noticeably more responsive and accurate. That probably sounds like a placebo effect, I know, but what can I say?

But another complaint: my hands sweat with this controller, and that never happened with the standard controller. Not a lot, but enough that it got uncomfortable. This could be a real problem for me.

Does the wireless USB radio adapter for the controller work on Windows 7 now? I thought I had read that Microsoft updated the drivers to no longer be Windows 10 only.

It's now been 35 days since sending back my faulty Elite and I've still not got a replacement. This is an absolute joke. Contacted MS CS so many times and they keep saying their "back end" team are looking into it and will e-mail soon. They said that 6 days ago, had nothing from them.

Whatever you do do NOT buy your controller from MS. They really don't give a shit and the customer service is terrible. I'm so fucked off with them. All I want is a working controller, it's in warranty ffs :(

So i've just contacted Xbox Customer Support again and they've fed me a new line this time.... Apparently I now need to wait 28 business days before contacting them about a missing shipment.

So, I recieved this email last month...

"Your replacement Xbox accessory has been shipped via DHL with tracking number Item not tracked by courier. You should receive it within the next 28-days. You can track the shipment status at .

If you haven’t received your accessory within 28-days, please contact Xbox Support."

Do you read that as 28 business days? Or just 28 days?

They are trying to now claim that I have to wait 28 business days for my replacement controller. So the 20th of July. I returned it on the 6th of June...
